Few things to note. It seems to be missing 256 shaders from the full spec, so they could be going for a double Titan release with this one (just to be greedy, like) like they did with the Titan/Titan Black. It costs $1200 and has pretty lame clock speeds, presumably down to the cooler which had trouble with the 1080. It's also missing HBM2, which was supposedly going to be on it. So IMO they will con the suckers again, then wait six months and release the real? Titan P.

Either way it's just more of the sublime from Nvidia. Oh yeah, you can only buy it from them too.

I am confused, how is it a con?

Because I think it is.

But you are not being 'conned' out of money as you don't have to upgrade. it is a choice, a daft choice but not a con

an explanation is handy.. an item is not a con, unless you are being mislead. But the stats and price you quote, just make it expensive, not a con

When I was in primary school we had a test each week to show we knew what words meant. This would have been year three, so around 6 years old.

It would be formatted such:
a tree is .....................
a biscuit is .................
a road is ....................
etc.
... where you would write in things like "a road is where cars go".

My friend would take the words he couldn't do (for example 'biscuit'), and write "a biscuit is a biscuit."

He was quite rightly told off by the teacher for being technically correct, but not actually taking the test properly because there was no way to prove he knew what on earth he was talking about.

I don't know what my point is here, other than to say that saying "a con is a con" sounds like something a 6 year old child would say and feel quite smug with themselves.

It's part of my vocabulary, being from South London. If something is a rip off or stupidly expensive it's a con, a skank, pants down etc.

So I still think it's a con, even if it may not be correct grammar.

Don't forget they changed it all around somewhere around 1992 or so. Somebody thought the education system was too simple so decided to start counting school years from zero.

So it looks like the RX480 generally bests the GTX970 but can't keep up with the GTX1060.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... 8gb-review

The 970 match-up would have been impressive six months ago when the 970 was still £250 but of course it's end of line now and available for the same price as the RX480, if not a bit cheaper. (Both cards are around the £200 mark.)

The 1060 looks like it'll be landing at about £230-£240, so more expensive than the RX480 for not much extra performance.

Long story short is AMD have a genuinely competitive mid-range card, which is great news, if only they could scale that out to something capable of jousting with the 1070/1080, and give Nvidia a bit of much needed competition in the high-end market segment.

It's beginning to look like this is going to be the card to have

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapphire ... 7d-sp.html

And a review.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3098825/ ... fined.html

It should be in stock soon. Also just took a look on OCUK at 1060s and it seems all of the cheap ones have sold out, leaving only the expensive ones. At this price point every last penny is critical really. I mean, it could make the difference between SSD and no SSD.

The Nitro is a tip top card. Built like a tank and looks lovely too. Plus it'll be far more quiet than the stock card and won't throttle if you overclock it. I would imagine the only card Nvidia will offer for £199 will be the 1060 3gb, but that isn't even a full 1060. The core has been cut as well as the memory.

I have a PC that's about 10 years old (AMD 64x2 3800 with a graphics card that has GTO at the end of the name but I forget the numbers), and I come here just so I can blag may way through a discussion with a PC nerd if I ever need to. Which is rarely.

Current issue of PC Pro had a 'Gaming PC for £700' feature, they were coming in with overclocked quad-core i5s, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSDs, GTX 960s and Windows 10 - so really capable machines for 1080p gaming without costing the earth.

Goodness, they seem like big numbers. Even 700 sterlings is little beyond me right now though, but one day. I also neglected to mention that I am short of time as well as coin.

Given that I still find the graphics on the 360 pretty impressive, something like that spec would most likely seem like a mahoosive step up to me.

Yes my amazing plan to sit tight on buying a new PC until the 1070/1080 prices drop down a bit is being somewhat undermined by the fact that the prices of everything else is either going up or about to go up.

Maybe I'll just spend the cash on blackjack and hookers instead.

£700 for a PC with a 960 in it IMO is too much. For a long time it was possible to build something for more like £500 with a I3 and 7850 in it so it kinda sucks that the entry price has jumped by £200. Sadly though I3s are no longer worth having (because certain games kick off about them not having enough cores) and the FX6300 is starting to look like a dinosaur.

Apparently AMD are working on a quad core Zen chip that has a GPU on it very similar to the RX 460. This could really bring down the price of entry, but we won't know until January next year. For now though? I would say RX 480 (the cheapest one you can get your hands on) and a FX6300 with a £45 motherboard could still be doable for less than £500. It might not be the quickest CPU in existence but at least it has enough cores to stop games throwing wobblies. If I can get some free time later I may see what I can do with £500.

I need to get around to it, but I'm wondering if the PS4 Neo will sort out whatever ails SSD performance on the normal PS4. And then I could bung a big SSD in and have LUXE PLAYSTATION LIKE A BIG MAN.

I now propose we talk about console gaming hardware in this thread for as many posts as PC gamers have spent talking about PC gaming hardware in console threads.

First Titan-X (the new Pascal one) based PCs are now available from Scan but not the card by itself.

However, going off the price of the PCs they're housed in and doing a rough estimate of the cost of the other components it looks like it'll be coming in at about £900 for the card.

BARGAIN.

On a wider note I've pretty much fucking given up on a new PC for now, the price of everything has gone up by about 10% due to the pound tanking and has pushed the overall cost of a suitable new PC into the 'it offends me' category so I'll just keep my current one running for the forseeable future. I had a go at speccing a new one up over the weekend and it was like £2200 and I'm just thinking fuck that.

I mean, if my current PC actually explodes it'll need replacing, but other than that it's just going to have to soldier on.

The PC it'd be replacing is already pretty good though, so to get an appreciable uplift in performance I'm going to have to chuck a wedge of cash at it.

Specifically the target is any game, at 2560x1440@ULTRA@60FPS, which is a tricky performance point to hit. (But is, for example, something that my current PC can pretty much manage with DOOM, but can't with Witcher 3 and The Division.)

Current spec:

[email protected], high-end motherboard (of the day), GTX970, 12GB DDR3, 620GB SSD storage, 2.5TB HDD storage

Target spec:

Current i7, high-end motherboard, GTX1070/1080, 16GB DDR4, 512GB m2SSD, 1GB SATA SSD, 3TB HDD (and no shit weak links either, so a decent case which come in at £100 or more, a quality modular power supply, that'll be the best part of another £100, and so on).

KovacsC wrote:

It's not really a hobby for me as I don't like to tinker or change out parts on a regular basis just for the sake of it, or mod or stuff like that, I'm just very fussy about how my games run and like to have a PC that matches those expectations, so when a game like the aforementioned Witcher 3 comes along, and I have to drop down to 1080p or make unacceptable settings compromises at 1440p, I get irritated. (The last graphics card I bought, the GTX970, I bought purely because GTAV didn't run as well as I wanted it to at 1440p.)

This is the gubbins of my current PC, as you can see, appearance doesn't make it onto the list of things I care about. (It's very cramped in there as the case is over eleven years old, and graphics cards weren't as wide or long back then, and PSUs didn't have so many wires coming out of them.)

I'd say that playing videogames is my hobby, the PC (and other gaming systems) are just the means by which I indulge it, I don't derive any particular pleasure from tinkering with PCs or upgrading them or buying them, and don't spend any large amount of time doing so. (This is part of the reason I didn't upgrade to Windows 10, it just seemed like a potential ballache for no reward whatsoever.)
