I seriously doubt it's worse than any other "smartphone" type thing.
And they last very well. The Nokia I had before it needed a new battery every year, was all plastic, repeatedly fell to bits and clearly had no resale value at all, so it would never be re-used.

Old battered 2G iPhones (which is the model I have) still sell close to the new price on ebay!

You try navigating halfway across the country to some industrial estate in the back end of nowhere when the motorway is closed and see how you can live without satnav. Invaluable, especially with the traffic feature. Saved my backside more than once.

I hope it won't rely on cellular data to stream the mapping, though. Most of the times I've needed GPS, I've been in the arse end of nowhere, and places like that tend to make the use of my phone completely impossible.
