Let's hope it's a beeping alarm and not a chiming on.

Good going. :) I didn't play it too much last night but I can't even do level 5 on 9 minutes, let alone anything less so I think I'm going to need a lot more practise!

Not sure if this would be best here or in Bits n bobs

From Kotaku "Microsoft: No More Original Xbox Games Over Xbox Live"

http://kotaku.com/5464818/microsoft-no- ... e=true&s=i

Quote:
Microsoft announced tonight that online play for original Xbox consoles and titles - including those played on an Xbox 360 - over its Xbox Live service will soon be discontinued.

The axe will fall on April 15, and will bring an end to years of online play for games like Halo 2 and...whatever other original Xbox games people still play these days.

With this being 2010, it's not really that big a surprise, but Microsoft's explanation for the move certainly raises an eyebrow or two. Xbox Live's Larry Hryb writes:

I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360. Our first step in this process will be to turn off auto-renewals for those members who only use Xbox LIVE on a v1 Xbox. While I can't comment on the specifics, this change will allow us to continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community. We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features.

Wonder what it is they're adding to Live that made them boot original Xbox support? A bigger friends list, perhaps?

UPDATE: Xbox Live's Marc Whitten has provided a little more background, writing:

Dear Xbox LIVE Members,

On April 15 we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox v1 games playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox Originals. I want to start by saying this isn't a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community.

Seven years ago we laid out our vision for the connected console when we launched Xbox LIVE. We believed then that the power of the Internet to connect people would revolutionize living room entertainment. It started with amazing multiplayer games, and we've since seen that bet pay off again and again with the launches of Xbox 360, Marketplace, Netflix and powerful social features like Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. None of this would have been possible without the success of LIVE as a multiplayer gaming network.

There's no greater example of the power of the Xbox LIVE community than the "Halo" franchise. "Halo 2" has had an amazing run on LIVE, with a dedicated community more than five years after launch and well into the next generation of consoles. It has fundamentally changed the way we play video games. And while it's difficult to see that run come to an end, the "Halo" franchise continues to act as the benchmark for multiplayer gaming in this generation, with "Halo 3," "Halo 3: ODST" and soon "Halo: Reach" on Xbox 360.

Your Xbox LIVE community has grown to 23 million strong. And as we look down the road, we'll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360. To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games. We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities. We view you as a partner in this process.

We'll share more details soon, but in the meantime I want to assure you that the best is yet to come for Xbox LIVE. I believe we'll look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment, and I couldn't be more excited about what we have in store with "Project Natal" and LIVE. The LIVE community is the driving force behind everything we do, and it's because of the community that ground-breaking experiences on Xbox continue to be possible.

See you on LIVE,

Marc Whitten

Call me a cynic, but it seems like a ploy to force the remaining Xbox1 owners to finally go out and get a 360.

Oh, and a larger friends list.

I haven't played Halo 2 for ages.. Do people still play it online? Wow..

Anyway, is this the best place to point out that I'm not looking forward to Natal coming and ruining everything for me?

Not at all, I have two fully functioning arms.

I'm just very wary of Microsoft going down the Wii route of gaming. I much prefer to use my thumbs rather than prance around my room grooming a kid called Milo.

Chime's starting to click with me a little more now. I think I just need to play it accompanied by wine. Got a couple of half-decent scores on the first two levels in 3 minutes but it still took me nearly the whole 9 minutes to 100% the last level.

You know, I really wanted to fall in love with this Chime, as I love my puzzlers and am always on the look out for a new one to occupy my time, but annoyingly this just isn't grabbing me.

I've spent a fair whack of time on the demo, but I think if it was going to click with me, it would have done by now, or at least enough to tempt me into swooping on the full game.

I just can't get my head around the shapes and that, and into 'seeing' the layouts, and the music they have in these sorts of games (also see Lumines) doesn't appeal to me, though I appreciate the music is an integral part of it.

Shame, and I'm not criticising the game in any way as it's purely a personal thing.

I didn't like the demo very much, but bought it anyway as some pennies go to charity for it. The full game's brilliant though. Except for that Moby track.

I liked the demo, played it for a whole 2mins while I waited for you, Dave & Poiks to finish a stage of Horde off & that was enough to make my mind up. That Moby track really is fucking awful.

Yeah, see I like that it's for charity, and 400 points isn't very much, after all, so I might hammer the demo a bit more and hope for a small breakthrough.

I quite like all five tracks. I think I need a break from it now though or that Philip Glass tune is going to be haunting me.

I prefer the going for high scores on the earlier levels than struggling to 100% the later ones with its more awkward shapes.

3 deals this week. Be nice if they keep that up.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 800 points
TMNT: Turtles in Time 400 points
Invisible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao 800 points (never even heard of this)

I'm tempted by Turtles but isn't it meant to be a bit shit compared to the original?

It is meant to be a bit shit.. but for 400 points?!? Well.. I could be tempted.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is a must have though!!

EDIT - But I think I'll go with what Dimrill says.. He's right, I'll buy it. Never play it and regret it when there's something I really want that I can't afford.

I've got the old version on the SNES, why would I want the new version? Answer? I wouldn't!

I can't speak for you but I know I did buy it for that much!

You've remimded me now... I would have hated knowing that I spent 1200 points on it only for it to have come down in price now.
