I may have failed to mention that I was away all last week in Tenerife, NOT THAT ANY OF YOU BASTARDS NOTICED!!!

Or maybe you did, I dunno, I haven't checked.

Anyway, I have had for my entire life a phobia of certain types of creepy crawly. Not a fear, a phobia. A frozen-to-the-spot-can't-move, "ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!" type phobia, but only with certain creepy crawlies. I'm fine with spiders, for instance. Ants, bees, wasps, woodlice, all fine. Centepedes, arrrggghhhhhh! Beetles, arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Guess my position on cockroaches. Guess which popular holiday destination I have no intention of visiting again.

I have family that own a hotel in Blackpool.

Just another reason why I will never go there ever.

Seriously, I know the Canaries have cockroaches. I've been to Lanzarote before and saw a couple there. But I was not entirely prepared for how many of the bastards are in Tenerife, nor did I realise that the local population of them would be using our hotel bedroom as some sort of communal hall.

Lady Zio even discovered one in her coat, attempting to hitch a ride back to blighty.

And don't even get me started on the fucking airline! We were meant to be back on Tuesday night, but the plane had a leaking bog and couldn't take off. They finally fixed it 19 hours after we were meant to take off by simply shutting off the water supply to it and sealing it up as far as I could tell, but this still involved flying home with the smell of human faeces wafting around the cabin. That was nice. 2 and a half hours into the flight, one of the other loos started leaking too. Clearly someone had warned the airlines staff at Gatwick of the overall mood of the passengers on the flight, since no one dared come out and speak to us when we landed.

So yeah. Holidays eh? Still better than work.

I've just realised that I'm still wearing shorts to work.

I know, but I had not moved my watch on... you know analogue watches that have the date on, need winding on, when you don't have a 31 in a month

Mine doesn't; it made a big song and dance about that in the instructions. Even though it doesn't display the month, it knows what it is. I find this slightly creepy.

Rapidshare and the like are very picky about multiple downloads from the same IP address. Are you behind a router?

Rapidshare love to stall your download. I think it's because they're trying to flog that professional package that's so horrendously expensive I can't think of a single person who'd consider it.

Well, 'training' is done. Passed both modules, we were done before lunch but stayed for it anyway because it's free, and then I was on the train home before 1pm. Having arrived at quarter to ten. Huzzah!

My uncle is the master of false economy. Seriously, he's an idiot.

He likes a 'bargain' - which means he'll buy anything, no matter how inappropriate, if it is cheap.

He also has a Makro card, and these two things combined spell trouble.

A few days ago he apparently turned up at my nan's house with some sherbet fountains, which were a 'bargain'. So much of a bargain that he bought her four boxes. Four boxes of 48. So now my nan, who doesn't like sherbet, has 192 sherbet fountains which need eating by yesterday. Also 96 Tunnocks teacakes which similarly needed eating by yesterday. She has so far 'eaten one of the teacakes but didn't like it' and 'ate the piece of liquorice from one of the fountains, but it had gone too hard to finish'.

He once bought four 3ft long catering pork pies. They were, for whatever reason, made with boiled eggs inside them. ( :spew: ) This meant that they couldn't be frozen. He was attending his son's engagement party the next day, and so my nan asked him if he was taking then there. "Bugger off' I bought these for me!" true, they were cut down to a stupid 50p each, but he spent £2 on 12ft of pork pie and boiled egg which he solely intended to finish in 24 hours.

Disclaimer: I do not get on with my uncle, he treats me very badly, so I may not paint him in the nicest light. This aside, I'd still think that these examples of 'economy' he displays are stupid.

Hehe - the Pork Pie incident must be over a year ago - they may well still have the sherbet fountains, though. Actually, no, they're out of date now - I don't think they'd be able to sell them.

Has anyone noticed the most recent version of iTunes (9.0.1 (9)) is really, really slow when scrolling through your library? As in, appallingly, barely usably slow? If I click on the scroll bar to move it up a page, there is a two second pause before it does it. Likewise, if I grab the bar and drag it up a long way, there's an even longer pause.

Gah.
