This thread just reminded me that I woke up in the middle of the night after one of those "I've got to try and remember all that" dreams.
Typically, I can't remember any of it, other than 2 of my teeth had fallen out at the end (although I don't think this was related to anything I'd done beforehand).

This is slightly alarming having now seen District 9 :'(

In other dream news, I last night dreamt I was watching (and was in) a Beex tv show. The only thing I remember is not being able to read any of the credits and trying to work out if myp was being played by a different actor 8)
I also remember walking around a huge garden with lots of bees and wasps, but this may not have been part of the beex show.

I dreamt that my dodgy right leg developed worrying blue and green bruises and I was trying to get to hospital.

Which is better than Kate's dream, in which I'd actually lost it and was now trying to get a prosthetic fitted.

Where can I see this film? And what possible reason could you have for leaving early??

It was fucking rubbish. There was this endless scene in a bar where more thugs kept coming in, but they all just sat down and chatted. After waiting for what seemed like hours for a fight to kick off we gave up and left.

Neat dream:

I dreamt last night that I was a scientist working at the Florida Keys for the military in a more advanced but stylistically similar alternate universe of the 1950’s. We were testing rockets to reach another planet, launched from underwater and all shaped like something out of a George Pal film. An appreciative crowd gathered to watch the rockets fly, one every two minutes sweeping out of the water and up into the sky, long flames trailing from the V2 shaped fuselages. Strange and unnatural swirling clouds of pastel colours formed above the launch site as rocket after rocket flew into space. I looked at the radar, and noticed that the rockets were simply disappearing shortly after leaving atmosphere. Concerned, I asked the authorities to call off the launches, but they didn’t seem to care, enthralled like the crowd beyond reason by the pretty multi-million dollar firework display.

I drove home in my Cadillac. Mother was visiting, all hysterical because she could no longer jaunt. Being unable to teleport the usual few hundred miles to see friends, she felt as if there was something seriously wrong with her body. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that around about now everyone on the planet would find they had lost that ability. The same product of the alien warning that they would quarentine the planet and suppress all forms of possible transport into outer space if we didn’t quite our violent ways. I told her about how the plumbing was on the fritz instead – this strangely enough drove her even more crazy.

I retired to my armchair with a martini. And then, infuriatingly, I woke up.

The only dreams I ever have are the 'things crawling around in the bed' or 'things coming out of the bed' type, which invariably leave me shouting in the corner of the room flailing around with a pillow.

The wife doesn't even notice any more.

You win, both for the bizarreness and excellent use of the word 'jaunt'.

My brain is apparently giving me a break from disturbing and confusing dreams to giving me merely terrifically dull ones. Last night, I had a vivid dream about editing wikipedia for at least half an hour.

I don't even edit wikipedia, for christ's sake.

I was having an extraordinarily detailed and naughty dream last night. For some reason (you bastard!) I woke up, remembered I'd left a loaf out cooling, and by the time I'd put that in the breadbin and gone back to sleep there was no chance of continuing the dream. Bah.

Oh yeah, on Saturday night I dreamt [A FAMOUS ACTRESS] had rude sex with a group of men in the middle of an American Football stadium at half-time and then released a hardback coffee-table art book commemorating the event, full of black and white photos and essays from respected high-brow writers.

I had a lovely dream last night. My reflections on it have made me feel slightly sad and teary, but the dream, itself was lovely.

I dreamt I was walking down alongside a beautiful canal in late summer afternoon sunshine, very golden and warm, still air. There were dragonflies flitting above the water to my right. I was looking for my grandad (who in real life passed away a few months ago and to whom I was very close, he raised me and was my role model for everything). I thought he was somewhere along this canal, further along, but I had been along this canal before and knew that I could only walk a certain way along it before I could go no further - it was like the edge of a game map - though I knew there was something beyond a certain point, I couldn't physically walk beyond it. I walked and walked along this beautiful stroll until I saw the point I knew that I could not go beyond. Just past there I could see the most gorgeous and huge thatched cottage. it was straight off of a tin of biscuits - huge front garden full of english roses and lavender. I'd see it before but never been able to reach it, but this time I could walk beyond the point where usually I was stopped.

I walked up the path of this huge cottage and there were some elderly people outside - all very healthy, all smiling, playing bowls. I went inside and it was beautifully cool. Inside there was an octagonal room (1) with dark wooden benches along each wall, with old gentlemen, all very dapper in blazers and boaters, walking sticks, etc. I asked if they had seen my grandad, they each said 'the very smart gentleman? Yes, he passed by this way.'

I carried on through several rooms before coming into a huge sunlit breakfast room, where my grandad was sitting at a table with a few other people, smiling, laughing, playing dominoes. He looked so happy, so healthy - he looked better than he had looked the last five or so years of his life - was clearly very sprightly. I knelt beside his chair and we hugged, and he told me he was happy, enjoyed where he was staying had made so many friends.

Anyway, I seemed to stay there for a while, talking, just assuring myself that I thought he was OK. I then said goodbye and felt happy and felt that I could return home feeling settled, and then woke up.

I don't believe in any afterlife, heaven, any place to go, but I like that my mind had conjured this comfort for me. It has made me miss him so much today, though. My eyes keep spontaneously filling with tears. :( It was a happy dream, though.

(1) It was one of the rooms in one of the Edinburgh galleries - I can't remember the name of the gallery but it has several octagonal rooms painted burgandy and dark teal - anyone who has been there will probably know where I am talking of.

Strange, strange dreams for me last night. Everything in here happened in the dream, which seemed to go on a very long time. It was staggeringly lucid and clear, and I can only present the first half here as it went on for so long a time. I've put it into story form rather than bare description to do it justice. It was one of those dreams that I think will lodge inside my brain for a while. I usually have rather splendid dreams, but this was something rather odder.

.........

I suppose I resembled young Steptoe most of all, only without the hapless, embarrassed agony etched on my face. A young Harry, who had got his breaks, carved out a nice little life for himself, independent and with small dreams. It was the early 1980’s and in this dream I was a petty criminal. Hauled up before court, I used what money I had to bribe my way into a more pleasant spell in a secure sanatorium for the mentally ill.

The outside looked like a red-brick crematorium, only with a spire instead of a chimney, but still housing the carefully tended lawns and that atmosphere of morbid perfection. Two guards led me through the heavy grilled iron door, and I was shown into a sizable ornate hall, with a black and white chequer floor and a large stove in the middle, resembling a well with its copper peaked roof and turning spit. In dead centre of each side of the room lay a set of stairs that led up to a balcony, running the entire four-sided length. A gleaming red railing ran along the copper railings, and door-less cubby holes marked the small tomb like rooms, one black slot in each gleaming white wall. It was as silent as a mausoleum.

I turned in surprise to my guards, who grinned back at me. “You didn’t specify much in the way of company, now, did you?” said one.
“Or as to the particulars of the institutional building?” asked another. They both looked uncomfortably like me, and enjoyed their small power. I decided to be chummy, and handed them the last of my money I’d smuggled in, a tenner and a five pound note. “The fiver’s for drinks. The tenner’s for some groceries I’d be obliged in you getting me; beer, deli food, that sort of thing.”
They pocketed the cash and grinned more warmly.

My room, like the others, had no door. The bed was a thin mattress on springs, on a wrought iron bed. The sheets were like thin, white funeral shroud. I decided to explore. In one corner there was a wooden door leading to the staff quarters, locked of course, and only opening to admit a dour, old Scottish woman dressed in Victorian house-servant garb. She brought in the meals, cursed me for my wicked ways and left. There were no doctors, wardens, seemingly no other inmates.

It was next morning. There was another inmate. She’d come in through the wooden door. She was thin and jaundiced, face careworn and her cascade of frizzy hair the colour of bright rusted iron. Despite the wear, I guess her age a little older than mine, at mid-thirties. She was nervous, and walked the cold tiled floor barefoot, wringing her hands, dressed in a simple black silk gown. Like everything about the place, she seemed to be straight out of Victorian England. I talked to her and it turned out that she had been sent there by her father. He’d feared she’d poisoned herself – her drawn features, yellow skin and unnatural shade of hair being the evidence, and that she was clearly addled in her wits. He wanted her someplace quiet, out of the way, out of his life. She’d been there for a long time, had forgotten the art of human contact.

In that place, time would cease to have meaning. There were no windows, a bell tolled the meaningless hours. When it was time for bed, the dour woman came in to clap her hands sharply. The lights, shining bright from a utilitarian chandelier, never dimmed. There was, however, a mystery. The first night with my new housemate, I awoke to find her asleep on the top balcony. I woke her and guided her back to her bed, unusually tucked out in the open on the ground floor next to the stove. The following night she was asleep another place, and again and again. Sometimes I was awoken by the sound of her crying out, sharp and sudden. When I found her, she’d be thrashing upon the floor as if from some terrible nightmare. I’d awake her, and she’d fall into a brief, listless state, with no memory of the night terrors, or of moving from her bed. Her father, a respectable looking fellow in a nice suit, bald and with a moustache, would visit in the day from time to time. He would share no words with me, and seemed to express little concern about his daughter’s condition.

I must have been there a month, and then one day I chanced to awaken earlier than usual, and I wandered from my cell. A thrill of fear jolted my heart; there she was, floating serenely across the floor and up the stairs to the balcony landing.

I suspect this is for Mimi's utterly beautiful and sad-happy dream rather than my weird one.

Your description of your dream rather touched me, Mimi. I'm glad to find that he's left this perfect memory for you. As Bill Waterson said about one of his Calvin and Hobbes strips addressing the loss of a family pet, 'we can always meet again in our dreams.' Thanks for that lovely post, I think there's something magical about dreams. Sometimes I wonder about them as some sort of miracle.

Anyway, off to vote you awesome now. :luv:

Well, I don't know how much of a part you play in the dreams that you have. Something in my brain made me dream that, but I don't know how much the dreams you have reflect your personality. I got a tiny bit upset writing it down, because I was recalling all of the details. I lay in bed an extra hour or so after woke up this morning, just remembering it over and over so that I could recall it later and remember as much of the feeling as I could. It's why I wrote it down here as well, because now I know it is here it won't disappear from my mind totally.

On the great dreams front, Rev Owen's wife dreamed about me last night, though she said the dream was very stressful - she was trying to stop me being put in jail, I was wearing a yellow wedding dress and was being bullied in the line-up of people that were being sent to jail - I was being pushed around by some mean girls she knew at school. I'm glad I made it into someone else's dreams - I like to know what I get up to when I am asleep and not in my own dreams. I like thinking that I can visit other people and have adventures :)

When I was young my cousin and I used to sleep with our heads touching, hoping that it meant we could share our dreams.

There are two mugs on a table by a back door at work. They've been there for a couple of days, not bothering anyone as they're out of the way, and I just assumed whoever left them there had a reason and would take care of it.

Last night, I dreamt that I was filling a sink and washing these mugs. They were really quite dirty.

It's getting so that I'll have to start watching paint dry to stay awake.

What was that ongoing radio sketch about an incompetent M.R. James style story-teller. "And when I returned the turkey had been entirely consumed!" etc.

It's bugging me.

I hardly had any sleep last night, as I was interrupted numerous times, as such I had 3 dreams that I remember, all of them to do with my childhood in various ways.

Dream 1 - On my way to school Jeremy Clarkson nearly ran me over.

I was my current age, but I was walking to my secondary School, I had just cut through Victoria Train Station, and was about to cross over Vauxhall Bridge Road. I was walking with one of my current work colleagues, who I did not know when I was at school. So, as we're about to cross the road, the light change, and we try and dash across the road, but a whole load of NY taxis don't give us a chance, so we head back to the pavement and wait for the greenman. After a minute or so, the traffic stops, and the green man appears, so we walk out, but an oldfashioned car (think 1920s) decides to jump the lights. The car is the colour of a Walkers Smoky Bacon packet of crisps (and the walkers sign is on the door) Jeremy Clarkson is driving it.

Once again, we dance around in the road, and I rush over to the car and start shouting at him, he starts to look angry, as if to say that he's had enough shit (literally) of the public and just wants to continue his drive, I then continue to say that I really like Top Gear and was only shouting at him for jumping the red light. He told us that it was ok, and asked if we wanted a lift. So we jumped in, and he drove down Victoria Street, to Parlimant Square, and then headed off towards Trafalger Square, and then down The Mall to Buckingham Palace, up the side of the Palace (Constitution Hill) to Hyde Park Corner and then down the side of Green Park (Picadilly) to St James's Street and then along Pall Mall to Waterloo Place, where we stopped and looked at the needle tower thing that's there.

Dream 2 - In the Cub Scouts as an adult.

Don't remember the details of this one as much, but I was in cubs, with the same leaders I had at the time, but all the cubs were adults, we started doing some of the activities we used to do, and then we had a race around a swiming pool, everyone lined up at one end, and we had to run to the other end, and back again, I finished 2nd, and the guy who finished 1st came over to me and told me I was a great athlete and if I ever wanted to train with him I was more than welcome. I remember thinking, that if I was this good after not doing any serious running for 20 years, imagine how good I could be if I started training. Then one of the leaders mentioned that I couldn't go any more as the night clashed with my weekend swimming. I started protesting saying that I was looking to change that from the Saturday to the Sunday, but it fell on deaf ears.

Dream 3 - The Race

I was at Battersea Park running track, and it was some sort of sports day (I used to come here for School and Scouts sports days), I was entered in a race, but it was "handicapped" I had to do 400m, some people had to run 200m and others only had to run 100m. So the whistle went, and we were off, the thing was, we all started at the same place, and finished in different places. I finished 1st out of the people who had to run 400m, but predictable we weren't sure who had finished first out of the 100m 200m and 400m runners.

I dreamt Dimrill and I worked in one of those horrible 'portakabin' offices and he was obsessed with giving blood to the bloodmobile in the parking lot outside, and gave so much he became really weak and could barely walk, while all the other office workers laughed.

Then I was in Bioshock, trying to kill a Big Daddy, and I had an inventory full of MMORPG-style Big Daddy loot and I was up to my weight limit and so couldn't carry any more.

I had a dream last night where I was replacing memory in computers at work like normal, but for some reason I had some RAM that didn't fit. I checked it closely and it had my family's name etched into them. I then realised it was from my old Amiga 600. :S

Funnily enough, random quote from Mrs Parm t'other night: "Aww, never mind. We can be gay together."

But, as I once drunkenly shouted in the manchester student union bar, I'm sure that in another life, I could be gay, but unfortunately I'm just not that keen on cocks.

I had a nice celeb-packed dream a couple of nights ago... was wandering around Las Vegas and bumped into Roger Federer. He was a bit angsty because he couldn't find a drink, he kept repeating to me over and over "where can I get a beer round here? I need a beer!" so I told him the best way was to just walk into the nearest casino and sit at one of the table games and a cocktail waitress would turn up to take his order. He calmed down a bit at this, but then got stressed out when a bunch of people kept asking him for autographs. "All I get is 'Are you Roger Federer? Are you Roger Federer?'" he complained to me as we walked. "Well tell them you're not" I suggested... "tell them you're French Canadian instead". He tried this next time and the people recoiled in fear from him like he had the plague. He was REALLY happy then, he kept slapping me on the back in gratitude over and over until I made my excuses and sent him into the Flamingo where he got his beer and started to have Three Card Poker explained to him by the dealer.

Then I went to check into my hotel and bumped into a guy with a big handlebar moustache who looked like a detective from a 70s TV show. For some reason I ignored my own room and walked to his room with him instead... on the way we passed Madonna on the stairs, and the 70s detective told her to get out of the way. When we got to his room there was someone in it... they opened the door and it turned out to be Andre The Giant. He stood there looming over us both and said (in Rainier Wolfcastle's voice) "This is my room, you will fight me for it". 70s detective started to splutter about there being some sort of mistake, and Andre repeated "You were rude to Madonna, you will fight me... shall we say 5 o'clock?" and shut the door.

The rest of the dream was just the 70s detective panicking a bit and trying to convince himself Andre was only joking, I woke up before the fight though :(

Use context to deduce. If that fails, ask again and I'll tell you The Flamingo is a casino on the strip. It's the one with all the flamingos out the back.

I had a dream last night that I was outside at night and all of a sudden there were loads of meteors, only they weren't meteors because they swerved round and started heading right for us and flying all around. When they got near us it was obvious that whatever they were they were really tiny and the bloke next to us who was apparently a wildlife expert said that they were a flock of miniature/baby birds and the lights were just their eyes reflecting. As I looked down I saw that one of them had fallen, this one was a tiny thumb-sized duck and as I watched a fully grown duck came and started trying to eat it. So I snatched it up and we started feeding it for a bit and then let it go again into the flock of other small birds and then something completely unrelated happened that I can't remember what it was.

I dreamt the past 5 years hadn't happened and I was still living in Abingdon. It was strangely comforting.

I had a horrible dream the night before my brother's wedding. I'd lost my speech and couldn't find a computer to download it from my email. The hotel morphed into a huge old building with endless corridors and dead ends. It were nasty.

I'm going through a prolific spell of remembering dreams at the moment. Last night I dreamt that a group of us were all living in this massive lorry trailer, only the Alb4nian F7id decided to throw water over me when I was wearing my best suit. He then caused the trailer to come away from the cab and lots of people died. My dad managed to push the trailer back onto the cab again(!), but it was all knackered and warped, so when we walked around it was all unstable. It then fell off the cab again, and I found out that we were recording an episode of Hollyoaks.

I dreamt I read Lord of the rings last night. I told MrsA this, and she said I was talking in my sleep.

That means you have faulty dreams, hopefully they'll be recalled soon.

Last night, I had a dream where Grim... stole my squid and arranged for hundreds of mongolians to come and mock me with this.

I was very rude to him.
