Should a schizophrenic man, convicted of manslaughter, be allowed to become a taxi driver?

EDIT: sorry, it was manslaughter, not murder.

Is the one on the left, like, a normal-size baby, for scale? If so, Eek!

Also, why are they positioned just in front of a garbage disposal chute, in that picture?

Oh, I didn't realise it was an old story, sorry if everyone's already heard of it.

Apart from just 'yes' as an answer, would you feel comfortable getting in his can knowing that he has strangled someone to death? Maybe it is different as you are a big guy (Grim...) and would probably be able to fight him off, but what if it was your wife travelling alone (assuming that she is not so powerful as yourself?) Or your wife and kid? Would you call him as a driver for the job?

Dude did his time, and takes drugs to control his nutbag disease. He already drives an minicab (the type you can only book) and has done for a while. What's so special about a black cab?

[edit]Except now they've taken his minicab license away as well, for fucks sake. Why let him out of hospital if you're going to treat him in the same way as when he was in it?

Of course, someone who isn't schizophrenic could kill someone, do his time, then become a taxi driver.

I didn't know he already drove a minicab. I know that many people can control such things when they are on special medication, but there have been cases where they stop taking the drugs and bad things happen. I don't know... it's a tough one. I really think he should be allowed to be a cab driver, but then I admit I'd not be comfortable knowing that he was my driver. I'd actually feel even less safe knowing that he was my minicab driver, because the minicabs in London are rather scary.

You wouldn't know, he wouldn't have a giant neon sign above his cab saying "KILLER DRIVER".

If he's rehabilitated, give him a shot, I say.

Black cabs are worse in the sense that they can lock you in the back of them, but I know what you mean about minicabs.

Yes, this is true. I think it is the knowledge that he has killed someone that is what causes the fear.

If you found out that your minicab driver had killed someone, it might be natural to feel uneasy. Maybe adding to that the fact that he may be mentally unstable if he doesn't take his prescribed medication just makes people nervous.

Yeah, what's the worse that could happen ;)

I didn't know that they can lock you in the back of black cabs. :S I really don't like cabs. i will struggle and struggle with bags rather than get in one, which many people don't understand, but I just don't like them.

For a first go, I'm reasonably happy, will layer some more resin on if needs be.

My link about the only female member of the French Foreign Legion was, I though, rather interesting, as she seems to be made of awesome. Especially the bit near the end.

Has anyone ever had a 360 Play and Charge cable knacker on them?

It wouldn't start charging, so I blew in it and the 360 connectors in case of dust. Nothing, but it suddenly started. But it would only light up for maybe 30 seconds before going out again. So I made sure the cables and battery were all properly seated, tried both USBs on the front of the 360, same result. Even tried my broken wireless controller.

Noticed, then, while unplugging the cable it was flashing green very pathetically and fading. Plugged in again, pulled it out, and a faint red stayed on. Took the plug end apart and can't see any damage to anything, still knackered, very annoying. I assume it's fuxx0red.

Oh, and here's another thing. Don't buy cheap miniscrewdrivers. You know how the make the centre bit grooved so you'll grip it while turning? On these this was so badly machined it was actually frayed, and inserted one of the jagged metal slivers deep into the meat of my thumb, leaving a tiny bloody hole (luckily, the sliver remained attached to the screwdriver throughout). OWWW.

They would be unlikely to be released so soon after the event though.

He was given an indefinite sentence as he was being A Mental at the time of the killing. That was then cut down once he was deemed to be stable and on meds.

I got a second hand cable and battery from Game for £2.99. Unsurprisingly, no worky. Although I could use it as a wired controller fine.

Got new battery - brand new. Still no worky. A quick google then revealed thousands of hits that they break a lot. I'm going to get a plug and charge kit instead and have two spare batteries.

Can't beat the ancient Greek boxer/gladiator Theogenes:

Quote:
Theogenes and his colleagues would each be strapped to a flat stone within punching range. When whatever passed as the bell sounded, they would fight to the death, unable to circle, dodge, or clinch.

Theogenes never lost in over 1000 fights.

Well today was well spent.

I am yet to get dressed, and have spent the ENTIRE day (well, from 11am ish) playing Rock Band 2.

The only thing to have annoyed me are my fucking cats who won't stop rubbing round my legs, but have plenty of food, don't want to go out, and run away if I try to give them any fuss.

THOSE ARE THE ONLY THREE THINGS YOU NEED, CAT. NOW GO AWAY.

I'm in two minds about it too.

Srsly tho - I'm all for giving people a second chance, but not sure I'd feel comfortable with someone I love being in a cab alone with him. It's a tough one. If pushed, I'd probably be for letting him do it.
