Yes. I have.

As far as I know, Google have switched off the ability with Pixel phones as I can't cast to my Amazon fire stick. You'll be able to cast to a Chrome Cast though which makes sense from Google's point of view.

Annoying though isn't it?

It is indeed annoying!

And thank you for the tip, Bamba. Hasn't resolved the issue on the phone, but I need to have a dig around in my TV's settings, as WiFI Direct may be disabled there.

Hmm. I can still cast to my Samsung TV.

I can't cast to anything, but that's because WiFi doesn't work on this phone anymore.

Noticed this recently. The Disney+ app only lets me cast to the Google Home hub, Netflix and Youtube both include the LG tvs to cast to.

Anyone else experienced this?

I don't know if it's the same core issue or what, but some music apps won't let me play music on my soundbar. It is wifi-enabled, but not officially Chromecasty. So Spotify plays fine, but (for example) Sounds doesn't, and only lets me play the music on my Home.

Yeah Sounds is rubbish. The iPlayer Radio app used to cast all over the shop, but Sounds doesn't do it.

I fiddled with the WiFI Direct settings on my Bravia last night, with no joy. Going to try on the LG in the other room tonight.

More exciting updates, as they happen.

Perhaps unsurprisingly the AppleTV+ app doesn’t let you cast to a Chromecast, so that was a waste of a free trial. I’m just downloading Mythic Quest instead.

The depressing part of all this is I'm only trying to fix the casting so we can use the free Peloton trial I got with work. Basically i'm sweating over wifi settings so a musclebound american can shout at me while I thrash and sweat around in the front-room.

Mythic Quest: is it similar to Silicon Valley? Is it as finely-observed, detailed and funny as Silicon Valley?

Because if the answer to all those is yes, I'll be downloading it too.

On my Google One phone ( a Nokia whatever it is), when I have wireless data off and mobile data off, WhatsApps and Facebook messenger messages can still sneak though! How?!

Did they come pre-installed? Because unless there's been some shenanigans then it shouldn't work.

Did Google finally fix the shuffle feature on YT Music?

I am hearing songs I've not heard in ages on my thumbs up play list! (Usually it plays about 50-100 songs and there's about half a dozen that would always be played in the first 15 or songs). The true test will be if it doesn't start repeating the same 5-6 songs by the morning!

I'll have a play about with it later on. (Currently I'm still using my S7.) It's pretty bastard big though and the camera sticks out of the back.

Probably full of Chinese hackers and spyware.

Also USB-C, no wireless charging, and no headphone jack.

EDIT - The pic that isn't there is a Huawei P20 Pro, the original post is here - viewtopic.php?p=999979#p999979

Four years later I'm still using this phone and have had not even the slightest desire to change it. The battery has held up surprisingly well, it'll still do 24 hours without a charge. It also still gets security updates so that's quite good too.

I've watched MUST HAVE phones come and go over the last four years, and none of them has tempted me to switch. I don't need MORE CAMERA, or MORE SPEED, or MORE PIXELS, or MORE BRIGHTNESS or MORE CHINESE HACKERS or anything else. It does everything and anything I want it to do, and as such, I am content with it.

I've been on a SIM-only tariff since the contract finished, and I shall remain that way until it finally breaks, which I guess it will at some point. Or maybe the battery life will drop off a cliff eventually and my hand will be forced.

Also, the price of phones now can absolutely fuck off, £1000+ for a flagship handset? (And then some!) Fuck that. Even good 'midrange' phones seem to be around the £600 mark. I'm old enough to remember when the Nexus 5 could be had for 'free' on a £35 per month contract.

For my money 'peak phone' has been reached, and was done years ago, they're just another commodity item for me now, like a toaster or a microwave.

We still have a few people at work on the P20. Those that have them, love them

Post subject:  Re: Google Android

To my considerable surprise my P20 Pro got a major update today, a whole new version of the OS and new features and shit and whatnot. To be clear, none of it I even remotely asked for or wanted, but I've got it now anyway.

It's mostly the same as far as I can tell, although WhatsApp is a tiny bit less snappy than it was before, so thanks for that.

There are new swipe gestures and shit but I don't care about those and didn't pay any attention to the tutorial, and all the extra new features it was trying to push on me I set to DISABLED because who cares, it all sounded like twaddle anyway.

Overall, would definitely upgrade again - 7/10.

Is everyone else short of diesel in their area, or is it just a Somerset thing? None of our local petrol stations have any.

Now just over five years old and still going strong!

Battery is degraded a bit but it'll still easily do 24 hours plus without a charge, even if it sees some action.

Chinese Hackers Huawei P20 Pro FTW!

Similarly, my contract is due up this month and for the first time ever, I'm not actually going to buy a new phone. I'm going to go on a sim only deal to save some money and stick with my Pixel 6 pro

I went sim only, as it was a lot cheaper. I don't plan on upgrading, but my phone goes to my son, so means I have to

I could, but he would drop it 100 times a day, and would not be shiny after 48 hours. I had I phone for 2 years, he killed the camera after 2 days... how do you even kill a camera :)
