No chance you can wait a few months? The replacement for the Nexus 5 is out soon-ish...

I've been loaned another phone for now, so it could be possible.

There was talk of a June/July release, but that has since been dismissed, and we are back to October.

New Android phone takes 50MP pictures. Okay, it's partially a software trick but what you can see in the 100% crops is really impressive I thought. The rest of the spec is bloody impressive as well (2.5GHz Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 3,000mAh cell plus a 5.5 inch quad HD (2,560 x 1,440) display, rapid charging, microSD slot) and if this sees a UK release I'd be tempted.

Just noticed that I am due an upgrade, and the HTC One 2 is being officially announced in two days time.

Dunno if I want a phone that is any bigger though. I'm on the original HTC ONe, and the new one is reportedly increasing from a 4.7 inch screen to a 5 inch screen. I hope that's mostly due to a smaller bezel, rather than increasing the size of the handset.

There's no other phones on the market that I'd really want to upgrade to. I might just go for a cheaper sim only contract if I don't like the look of the HTC One 2.

With an increase that small you'll likely stop even noticing after a couple of days.

Yeah, my Note 3 just feels like a phone now. Any normal ones I try now feel far too small, though.

I'm very tempted to go for a note 3, and to ditch carrying a 7 inch tablet for commuting. How is the battery? Is 4 hours of marvel quest on the train a day going to kill it :D

Damned good. I charge it at work, but two hours of video playback only uses about 10%.

All the >5-inch handsets I've had over the last few years (Note 1, Note 2, One Max) have been great for battery life because they can jam big-ass batteries in them.

Current plan.

Sell Nexus 4, sell nexus 7, but Note 3.

There are a few on ebay and in various shops for £380-ish new, are these likely to be legit, does anyone know. They seem legit.

Note 4 is 6 months away still I think, so I don't think I want to wait for that.
Also, i'll probably sell my Fitbit Force and get a Gear Fit when they come out instead.

Amazon's current price is £393 so yeah, that would seem legit.

Warning: Samsung have apparently region locked the Note 3 so don't buy one that's from elsewhere even if it's cheaper!

ETA: actually, sorry, no; Amazon's own price is currently £496 but there are plenty of marketplace sellers on there doing it for around the £400 mark so that still seems legit.

I wasn't actually trolling. It did look ridiculous. As a tablet I'm sure it's fine, but surely answering a call on something that big just feels a bit silly?

Hmmm... the region lock isn't really an issue for me, I don't think. It seems I can still use any UK sim, but I can't use a US sim if I go over there, for example. I never do that anyway, plus i'm on Three so the places i'm likely to go are already on there "everywhere" deal thingy.

It would presumably be an issue if you bought a phone that was region locked to somewhere not the UK/EU, which is all I was warning you against.

I don't think so, as the region lock works by locking to region of the first sim put in it, so as long as it is new it shouldn't be an issue.
It seems that a fair number of grey import phones are from Malaysia, as it's illegal to region lock over there.

edit, but yes, thanks for the warning :) I wouldn't have known to read up on it without it!

I do have to admit, I'd like something slightly bigger than what the current iPhone is, but not much more. 4.5" tops. I still want to be able to comfortably hold it in one hand.

My only worry about the Note is how pocketable it will be. I have no problem with my Nexus 4, but the Note 3 might just be a bit too big to fit in my jeans pocket.

Actually I think the situation is even weirder than that. According to this article anyway, the brand new handset is genuinely locked to a specific region out of the box. But, you just need to put any SIM card from that region in the phone and make a five minute call to anyone and the lock is automatically deactivated and the phone can then take any SIM from any region.

Go into a shop and try it out, even the fake plastic display phones are the right size so you can see how it works for you. I've never had an issue though so unless you habitually wearing skinny women's trousers or something you'll probably be alright.

Hmmm... getting a Note 3, for around £400, that is in the UK at the moment and can be in my grubby hands this week seems to be an issue.

Lots of places that have them "in stock" but with 3 weeks delivery...

This is pretty cool. Load up your phone, use the plus and minus buttons to calibrate it to the actual size of your physical phone, then you can compare the size of other phones against it.

Yeah, the Note 3 is ridiculous. I'm air-grabbing it on my screen and I don't even know how best to hold it.

The Nexus 4 is a really ugly phone. :(

Let's see if you can guess who switched his wifi off to run a hotspot last night and didn't switch it back on before Plex starting synching new content.

The service provider disagrees.

[edit]So does the phone, actually (as it's shut my mobile data off). Or maybe O2 can cleverly tell it to do so.
