So far, forever. I've not had it long enough to give a good answer.

I'm going to put money on "fucking ages" though.

Do you ever actually go that long without access to a charger? I look at these things and briefly consider buying them as they're an undeniably good bit of kit, but then I remember I'd never have a reason to use one. Not that other people wouldn't ever, but for people like me and you who're either at home or in an office (or relativity briefly travelling between the two) I always wonder what the need for it is.

I have a little gadget that I plug my RC batteries into and it has a USB socket on it. Cost about three quid and is ace for when out camping and whatnot.

I might have to look at one of those?

Can it be charge by a solar panel?

If you buy a solar panel that plugs into a micro-USB and don't actually want it to charge, then I guess so.

I'd imagine it'd take days to perform a full charge, but I might be wrong.

Was thinking, fully charge it before she goes and trickle charge it when out.

Right, but unless your battery discharges instantly as soon as your cross the threshold of a pub being sat in one surely isn't a problem as you'll have been charging the thing up before you left the house/office to go to the pub. Well, for me that's the case anyway.

Sure, but a) other people aren't as clever as me and you and you can help them out, and b) when it's 4am and your train has been cancelled and you need to figure out what station you need to get to to grab another one, you really need your phone to be working.

Ooh, this Note 3 is a bit swish, isn't it? The handwriting recognition is proper impressive, I can't believe it works this well.

It is, and it does.

Will you be like me and never use the handwriting bit again?

Vodaphone want to sell me an S4 for 24 months for £29 a month with 600 minuteds, 500meg data and unlimited texts. 3 will do this for £24. 3 will also do unlimited data for £30 a month.

I can get an iphone 5c for £23 a month with unlimited calls and texts and 2 gig data.

Is there an android phone of choice at the moment that I haven't considered? I don't want to pay upfront for a handset and want to spend no more than £30 a month. It must to the twitter, the facebook and strava.

What Trooper said. The size is basically the only downside, and that's a matter of opinion anyway. I like 'em big ;)

That's no good, then.

Is there anything you can do to get it under £30?

I'd really recommend going with Three if you have the option. The customer service is awful, but the actual service itself is pretty good. "Free" 4G, overseas calls and data coming out of your inclusive minutes etc...

Another recommendation for Three here. I switched to them from O2 about 18 months ago and have never regretted it for one second. I'm on The One Plan, which is £36 per month, but gives me something crazy like 5,000 minutes, 5,000 texts, unlimited data and unlimited tethering, including on 4G. My girlfriend-or-whatever-the-hell-she-is has no internet at hers, so we tether my laptop off my Nexus 5 and watch Netflix via it with no issues at all.

So that's why myp is missing the BBQ.

For my part I was disappointed that the rumours of a new >7" tablet announcement came to naught, but that was always a bit of a long shot.

Also, I hope announcing the new OS version as just 'Android L' isn't the end of them dumping a new food-based statue on the lawn of the Googleplex every time as I always thought that was a nice touch.

Also also, I wonder if Android One is the same thing as the rumoured Android Silver or if that's still to come at some point. I'm hoping the latter as Silver sounded like an excellent idea that would create more Google Play Experience type phones without all the bullshit custom UIs and fucking bloatware.

"But what about lock screens? Well, there’s a new feature called personal unlocking that looks at signals like location, Bluetooth, and even voiceprint to authenticate a user. It lets you unlock the phone just by swiping, so you don’t have to unlock the phone with a pin code in certain situations. If it can’t see, say, your Bluetooth watch, it will prompt for a PIN."

That's nice, as if I needed another reason to get a Moto 360 though :D

So when you mug someone for a phone, make sure to take their watch too.

But, as my Google insider* says, the alternative seems to be that people don't lock their phone at all.
