Oh yeah! I was sceptical at first, what with L4D being out for about six months already, but now I'm suckling at the Valve teat and completely forgetting about everything I said.

It's gonna be bostin'. I've just read the PC Gamer preview from their latest mag. Don't care much for the new survivors, but multiple pathways through levels is just the ticket. Deal me in.

Is this Valve moving to a more console-like games production sechdule, I wonder? More frequent full price releases, less free content? L4D sold really well on 360; perhaps better than they thought. It seems pretty clear to me this is L4D v1.5 really (not that I think that's a bad thing).

The speed of the release has left me cynical. But hopeful.

(Good work at breaking out this to it's own thread, I made the E3 thread mainly for the banter during the conference, no reason to keep it there after the conferences. We need a Shadow Complex thread, that looks awesomesauce.)

It looks that way, Rich. Thing is, loads of people moaned about L4D being too small, etc. I think they probably planned to add a couple more campaigns or whatever, but got carried away and wound up making a completely new game instead. I'm happy to pay full price for an even more complete package this time around. Also, The Orange Box - we must owe them £100 for that still :p

5 linked campaigns, sounds good, with the director moving bits around, only hope that there's no glitches where he moves stuff around and you can't get throught at all or something like that.

But should be another good game, especially if playing with bezzies

I'm quite happy with the gameplay and mechanics of Left 4 Dead, and it's only really the stale content that's stopping me from playing it at the moment. And the beautiful weather, of course.

More of roughly the same would be nice. Multiple paths would be nice. Some new weapons would be nice.

Stale as a white dogshit content. L4D2EB needs much more than 4 frickin campaigns.

I only switched over to the eggbox stream mid way through that section, as Gametrailers kept asking me to refr3esh like some sort of neanderthal.

That trailer is great. I loved the chainsaw starting up and the "saferoom reached" jingle kicking in. It looks a lot more gory, and the writeup from RPS suggested as much.

I hope they're actual zombies. Not much hope, as some were dropping without headshots. HARUMPH!

Dimrill: give it up. Actual zombies wouldn't work in a fast paced action game and you know it.

I'm just surprised it's not called L2ft 4 D2a2.

I'll probably do what I did with L4D

1. Meh
2. 'Oh £20!'
3. Cor!
4. Oh more!
5. Eh?

OK, so, it's episode 1 of No Mercy. There are no special infected, all zombies move at a sluggish pace, and zombies cannot grab you when you brush past them. I run to the saferoom. Game over.

Just go play Dead Fucking Rising already and leave us to enjoy L4D and RE5 in peace.

Although Dead Rising doesn't have Romero-zombies either. They are much more fragile and lunge rather more energetically.

Name a game with zombies like Romero's, please.

What mental part of West England do you come from, and which non-zombie flims have they afflicted on you?! We need to organise a rescue mission to Cumbrain. Someone prepare the Clockwork Orange chair.

In a slow zombie game they most definately should be able to grab you, including arms through grids and vents. Their masses are the enemy not the individual.

So, to be clear, a zombie incapable of moving faster than "shamble" should posses crotch-lunging capabilities of sufficient celerity to capture a fit human male sprinting flat out passing at a distance of five feet away?

Because that never happens in Dawn of the Dead. They sprint past zombies all the fucking time. They push someone past in a fucking wheelbarrow, right past them.

Also: why can child zombies run?

The zombies in the Dawn.. remake weren't "Romero-zombies", but them's frickin zombies. Why? The eat flesh and drop on a headshot only. Infected do neither. Punch and kick, punch and kick. EAT MY MESENTERY BITCHES!

I am sorely tempted to find a PC mod that puts these mythical zombies of yours into L4D to prove it's not fun to play afterwards.

Christ, when I'm a zombie I'm so going to just tear you apart. Not even bother eating, just take forever tearing flesh to ribbons. It'll be so cool, I can't wait!

Yes, Left 4 Infected would indeed be shit with proper zombies. But Left 4 Infected is not a zombie game. That's like saying "TUT! I'm so tempted to get a zombie mod for Pirates! and prove it wouldn't be fun to play afterwards."
"TUT! I'm so tempted to get a zombie mod for Balance of Power and prove it wouldn't be fun to play afterwards."
"TUT! I'm so tempted to get a zombie mod for Animal Crossing and prove it wouldn't be fun to play afterwards."

Won't be getting this unless Valve commit to releasing more than 4 campaign levels rather than the bollocks survivor mode.

I guess the reason why games have the fast zombie is that in zombie movies humans only get bit when they get panicky and fumble and miss the head-shots, or run out of ammo. In games with slow moving enemies, panic isn't something you're going to feel sitting on your sofa or at your desk, and level design would be very difficult if the only other way - beyond panic - that you jeapordise yourself in is with insufficient ammo. Because you could take your time and drop anything that comes at you, you'd be running out at more or less the same point eveytime.

So fast zombies in games make sense. For the films and books, I prefer the shufflers though. Classic, and I'm too much of a scaredy-cat to handle the fast ones on screen.

Ah but, what you would do design wise would be have an ever encroaching horde on your tail and you'd use your limited ammo to get through the zombies in your path, with bottle necks and so on.

It's a design decision that'd suit a more RTS approach, I feel.

I think it could still work as an FPS/Adventure game. Timed dashes from one buiding to the next, stocking up on stuff on the way. Maybe if you had to shepherd a bunch of survivors, watching out for sneaky bastards hiding their bites :D

Yes. I am amazingly right on this.

Mr Dave make this game you lazy shit.

I'm sure it could be modded to do this. Isn't the hardest setting supposed to be headshot only anyway? Be cool if your way was a game-mode though, can't see a reason why the game can't incorporate both modes. Would you still have the mutant zombies though?

No, but I'd have crawlers, head torso and arms hiding in the muck and grass. Also like Dimmers said (I think) shoot an arm, loose an arm, shoot a leg, loose a leg. Headshots/trauma only.

Mutants are fine with me, as long as they abide by the Headshot/Flesheating. Boomers could disintegrate people with bile, and then suck up the juices. Smokers raspy tongues, like a tiger. Other two shredders.

Also, NPCs doing themselves in. Help you out for early parts of levels then go all shotgun in mouthy.
