Frozen.
Labyrinth.
Matilda.
Nausicaa.

Edit: Frozen & Nausicaa both feature princesses, but the first subverts the tropes, and the second doesn't really subscribe to them at all.

Edit2: Quite a few of the Ghibli movies might fit the bill actually. Princess Mononoke (I think she's a princess), Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Kaguya (I think she's a princess too), My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away.

Aerial, Aurora, Belle, cindetella, jasmine, merida, mulan, pocahontas, rapunzel, snow white, tiana are the disney princesses.

Anna isn't as she is a feckless enemy of the state.

Disagree on Frozen. All Anna wants to do is get married and this behaviour drives Elsa to have a strop and then everyone has to help Anna fix her stupid error. Stupid Anna.

They got their agent into the royal castle in the end. Helped by Anna. Stupid Anna.

I'm on the hunt for empowered women.

For my 5 y/o daughter.

*New Wonderwoman would be too violent I think.

Definitely not Atomic Blonde :DD

Agree with Brave; it's a nice antidote to traditional princess movies. Moana was good too.

Other than that, I don't really know. Most of the ones I think are empowering/strong female leads are too mature for a 5y/o.

Man alive, just open the Studio Ghibli backcatelog and pick a film. There's some fabulous female characters and the message is always positive.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with Kiki's Delivery Service. It's lovely.

'The Death of Stalin' trailer. I'll be going to see this I think, as I enjoyed 'In The Loop'

Ooooh. Jeffrey Tambor? Political farce by Mr Armando? The already stunningly gripping story of Stalin popping his clogs? Completely up for this!

Last night's film was 'GET OUT' which Wiki describes as an 'American horror film and social thriller' but that doesn't even come close to giving you a clue what to expect, I've never seen anything quite like it.

I'd suggest going into it not knowing much at all (which is what I did), because the premise is so original that it deserves the chance to reveal itself in every unsettling detail.

It's running at 99% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes which feels right to me, Wiki says it's pulled in $252M from a budget of $4.5M but I must be honest and say I hadn't heard of it before, I just saw it in RT's list of 'new on DVD and streaming' films.

Do yourself a favour and watch this film.

NOTE - Despite the 'horror' tag it's not particularly gruesome or anything, it finds its horror in its theme and ideas. It's also possessed of a generous dollop of humour, is very smartly written and superbly acted, and it's not at all a bleak slog to sit through.

Best flick I've seen for a while.

908/1000

We watched The Danish Girl. It's just an amazing film, Eddie Redmayne is amazing. He's beautiful and handsome, at the same time. The whole film squeezes your heart in your chest. Anyway, if you've not seen it you should.

Saturdays TV double-bill!

Tomorrowland seemed interesting at first but got a bit boring. 4/10, the four-and-a-half year old seemed to quite like it.

Star Trek Nemesis started out boring and then probably stayed boring, I don't really know as I fell asleep. 2/10

Watch it. It's great.

I don't think it'd much benefit from the full CINEMA EXPERIENCE either, so will be just as effective a watch at home.
