Just think of him as a cat-impersonating Mel Gibson. Bit of a cunt like, but Payback is still a great film.

It might be, but almost everything Galloway does is horrendous.

Well this generally appears to be regarded as a good and worthwhile film, (it reviewed well, in the main), I'd say in spite of Galloway, rather than because of him.

A large percentage of the film is interviews with people from across the political spectrum, none of whom are George Galloway.

I never much cared for it. But then I never much liked 'Grease' either.

You're a terrible use of carbon and various assorted organophosphates.

Oblivion was on tele sat night. Seen it before, and it was slightly less impactful knowing the reveal but still a really good film - enjoyable to watch.

Hivemind - is it OK to like Tom Cruise (as an actor)? I do....

Top Gun isn't a good movie by any stretch, but it's watchable and that's the main thing. I think it basically lives off that "80s nostalgia" feel, and that's fine.

I love Tom Cruise (as an actor, obvs) - he may have his faults, both on screen and off, but you cannot deny that he always puts 110% into his roles.

Yeah, he's a good actor. Though I do feel mildly guilty watching anything he's in because I'm indirectly contributing to Scientology's coffers.

I think if you were to try and boycott all films that had scientologists involved then you'd be left with some pretty slim pickings.

That's true, but with Tom Cruise specifically it seems a bit worse because (a) whatever film he's in is likely going to see him earning a lot more money than anyone else and (b) he's such a massive contributor and figurehead for them that it seems worse than supporting anyone else.

Yeah. But apart from just being complete fucking weird and acting like a creepy stalker with ex members is Scientology actually a big deal?

It's a religious cult with everything that entails so yeah, I'd say so. They manipulate people and actively seek to disconnect cult members from outside influences. They'll also happily bring shady tactics to bear against anyone they consider a problem and the fact that advancing in their programme costs a hilarious amount of money just exposes the fact that it's a scam meant to make the church itself richer.

I watched Assassin's Creed on the plane as well - I forgot. Which is a good thing, as it's a shit film. I mean, really shit. There was one moment that summed the film up, where Fassbender jumps off a building and this scientist woman goes "gasp, Leap Of Faith", practically enunciating the capital letters. This clearly had no point whatsoever other than to shoe horn in terminology from the games. Avoid like the plague.

We watched a film last night, the name of which escapes me but it has Cillian Murphy in it, which was oddly compelling. A somewhat predictable twist at the end though.

Oh, Free Fire... that was it.

At the risk of damning it with faint praise, Wonder Woman is a decent enough film. It's head and shoulders above the other recent DC bollocks because it's not a completely po-faced load of tosh and the plot makes actual sense (which isn't a massive achievement because there's just enough of it to drive the thing forward and no more). Weirdly it's not actually a super-hero film for huge chunks of it's run time and is just a WW2 infiltration film that happens to have Wonder Woman as part of it's crew. Which is good because it humanises the character and the film in a way BvS et al never managed but is bad because it is slightly jarring whenever it does transition into the usual CGI punch-fest. It's not an amazing film by any means and it's got it's pacing issues for sure but it's watchable enough which, sadly, feels like a massive step up here.

Question: Wonder Woman is in BvS, yes? And Wonder Woman is set in WW2, yes? So, no tension?

You don't even need to look that far; the entire Wonder Woman film itself is framed as a flashback so yeah, you know for a fact she survives right from the very start.

Well to be fair I don't think anyone goes into a Superhero movie expecting the hero to die at the end, unless it's Superman but because Superman is Jesus we all know that fucker is coming back anyway.

And as Daredevil showed, killing off one of the main characters needn't stop you resurrecting them for a spin-off film.
