...ly boring. It's just a series of rubbish CGI animals and "wizardry" effects. Then the big villain is just a squirllling mess of CGI smoke in typical big budget, no content fashion. There's no story, no interest and no point.

Still, it's got Kevin from Corrie in it.

La La Land - awesome. I thought it was going to be a load of soppy bollocks set to music.

It basically was, but with a cool ending. And, as soppy bollocks goes, it's damn good soppy bollocks. Some great songs, amazing visuals and direction (with some truly impressive all-one-shot scenes) and a great performance from Emma Stone in particular. Gosling was also great, but the poor guy can't seem to get away from "socially awkward" roles so everything he does ends up being very similar.

Talking of Bryan Cranston, Trumbo has been added to Amazon Prime so I gave that a whirl tonight and very good it is too. :)

Halfway through the Cabin Fever remake, I wasn't enjoying it and thought about turning it off, but I figured I'd see if it got better.

It got worse. 20 minutes before the end, I had to give up on it. Utter rubbish.

I watched 'MY FATHER, DIE' last night, which is written and directed by Sean Brosnan who is the son of Mr Pierce Brosnan 007.

Plot synopsis is as follows:

Quote:
Deaf and mute since having his hearing knocked out at the age of 12, Asher has been training for almost two decades to avenge himself on Ivan, the man that killed his older brother, 21 years ago. And now that his nemesis is out of prison, he may get his chance. But Asher's target also happens to be his father.

It's a very good film, incredibly vivid, intense and almost sort of 'hyper-real', which I'm saying even though I don't really know what hyper-real is supposed to mean in the context of a film. Actually I just googled it and it fits, so I'm keeping it.

If you bring it down to brass tacks it's basically a revenge movie, but done in a fashion I've not seen before. Hints of 'Blue Ruin' but this is a very different film.

This person on IMDB didn't like it at all. I'd suggest you watch it yourself and decide.

Do note however that it's a pretty lurid piece at times, it's gone with a 'NR' in the States and I suspect it wouldn't get an R in its current form and would be well into NC-17 territory. Nothing on the BBFC website but it'll be an 18 when (if) classified.

I give it 825/1000. Better than all the Bourne films. <<< EDITED the mark to be within the realms of possibility.

Quote:
Society is going down a drain.

Once again, another so called cult film resorting to human sewage to try and cause an emotional impact because, it seems, audiences are so desensitized that in order to keep them awake they have to be fed vile and despicable imagery.

I wonder what makes directors and writers to film a scene where a teenager masturbates while watching other teens having sex. How authorities allow this to happen? This is worse than porn because in porn the actors are not supposed to be underage.

After that, I could not stomach to sit through monstrosity. I fast forwarded pausing every now then to sample what was going on, and, of course, what one sees is a succession of human depravity, deviancy and the usual depiction of human misery.

Skip it. I believe watching a dead cat rot in an alley has more entertaining value than this aberration.

I watched two sci-fi films recently. One was amazing; one was boring AAA hot garbage.

1) Looper.

The director absolutely nails it. A reasonable story executed well can lift the overall package and that's exactly what happened here. A fabulous film I really enjoyed revisiting. Great great stuff.

2) Star Wars: Rogue One

That first five minutes, I thought there was going to be a quiz. There's about 5 different planets introduced in the first 5 minutes with a bunch of names I was never going to remember.

Big exploding town was alright, fight at the end was a bit generic for my liking.

The editing was poor. Gal standing on the top of the tower at the end miraculously gets to the bottom in time for a tacked on/poorly explored love moment. Forest Whittaker looked shit, overacted, had terrible lines and his final scene was utter nonsense. I mean, come on, he's much better than this tripe. The dialogue throughout wasn't great. "Stardust! That's me!" *groan* "Don't get chocked up" *hnngh*

The star of the show was the Death Star and that awesome end scene tying the Episodes together.

Overal: meh.

That's probably not true, as it was written years ago and rotted in development hell until now. Chazelle wrote, cast, directed, and released Whiplash just in the time La La Land sat around being completely unloved.

I find it annoying though, I don't like knowing that the films I watch have been dicked about with. (Especially since the cuts are usually done quite crudely, which stick out a mile to me as in a previous life I was an online VT editor.)

Admittedly things in the UK are massively better than they used to be during the tenure of Ferman at the BBFC (when I routinely imported DVDs from the States to get the unfucked versions), but it's still irritating when a mainstream film like John Wick 2 is cut to a certificate.

Maybe we'll get an UNSEEN HARDER CUT for home releases, and the 15 will just stick for the cinema release.

Let me be clear about this, I don't particularly desire to see bloody injury detail during a suicide scene, but I do want to see an uncensored film.
