The LEGO Movie.

I wanted to watch it again within five minutes of the opening.

Just... amazing. Something happening every second.

One of the best movies I've ever seen, despite me never really playing with LEGO when I was a kid.

Surprisingly deep too.

I mean that not in a philosophical sense (although it does have a fair bit of that in it), but more the little details that will go unnoticed by most viewers (not just kids either, some adults :P) Some obvious, some not so obvious.

e.g. despite it being entirely CGI, lots of the bricks in the movie have fingerprints or scratches on them to make it look like they're well used.

And the bricks in Cloud Cuckoo Land being the ones that the kid's Dad had put aside to let him play with, which is why it was seen as a safe haven with none of the oppression of Lord Business's side.

I didn't catch half of it when I watched it, it was only reading through a thread on SomethingAwful's film forum where lots of the dots started to get joined up.

I've so far only seen the first half of the Lego Movie - I got it to watch with Zioette on Friday but we both fell asleep (not through boredom - I was just that tired). I really should watch it in full soon. In a worrying glimpse into my future, Zioette looked at me like I was some crazy old man when I told her I'd not already seen it. She's five.

There's also the fact that it was basically an hour and a half advert for Lego, but at the same time managed to be a critique of their business model being over-reliant on licensed sets.

Um... Seems The Expendables 3 has leaked online weeks before it's due to arrive at cinemas anywhere.

It's a high quality dvd-screener with no watermarks, no "property of" messages etc. (apparently !)

Think the last time this happened was with the Wolverine movie back in 2009 (difference being that the Wolverine movie was a "work-print" with missing special FX, but this is the complete finished film).

The distributors ain't gonna be happy !

Watched it. Quality was good. The film was garbage. Arnie says "Get to the chopper." The CGI is trash. I don't know who some of the people are.

Yep, it isn't the finished version, only a few FX missing but still...

Seeing as the first 2 were trash I am not expecting anything better with this one.

Can't find any info anywhere to suggest this is not the finished version.
Pretty certain it is.

That said, having watched it, it looks to me like it was originally intended to be a 15 certificate & they've now edited it down to be PG-13. Lots of quick cutaways (is that a word ?) during action bits where you'd expect the camera to linger a bit longer and show a bit of gore etc.

Anyway, found it mildly entertaining in a switch-your-brain-off sort of way (and Snipes & Banderas were quite amusing in parts...)

Was the other film you talk about "Wolverine" ? That was leaked about 6 months before cinema release and was missing loads of FX.

The CGI was pretty awful, if this is the final release, then they obviously spent all their budget on the fees of the actors!

It was ok, the first hour was terrible, but the last fight was pretty good and Banderas was reasonably funny.

Whilst it looks good and has some better huge monster fights in it than Pacific Rim the funny bits are massively laboured and Cate Blanchett's Scottish accent is actually worse than Simon Pegg's.

Watched 'Short Term 12' on Netflix this evening.

It's been on my list since it got a load of very positive reviews and awards last year and it didn't disappoint.

Highly recommended and a solid 9/10. I sprung a leak on more than one occasion so possibly not a good first date film unless you're trying to show off your tender side.

Just got back from the cinema, Guardians of the Galaxy was acebest imo. A excellent 80's soundtrack with lots of retro jokes, very unusual (but then the comic was also) almost to the point it doesn't feel like it fits with the other Avenger films but hey any film that brings me Groot and Rocket Raccoon is pure awesome.

Went to see it in 2D, but a few scenes were obviously wedged into the film to justify 3D.

Zero on the Craster Scale but will happily give it an 8 out of 10.

Also WTF with the clip at the end after the credits.....won't say anymore but it is a very odd clip.

It was really very good. I was shocked at how funny Dave Bautista (Drax) was. He was brilliant.

Also, the City under threat was modelled used famous London landmarks as things to get blown up. I was particularly excited to see my former office (The Lloyd's Building) to be the first to get levelled.

Anyway, it's excellent, and easily the funniest Marvel movie to date too.

I watched a film too: Machete Kills Again.

Frankly, I can't understand why they bothered. It's not funny, it's not nearly as gory and over the top as it thinks it is and poor Danny Trejo looks like the butt of the joke as this short old guy and appears very tired throughout.

I didn't care for the first one at all but I got what they were going for even if they couldn't sustain a 2 hour movie.

This, on the other hand, was just bad. It tried to parody the low rent B movies of past but just ended up as a poor movie. Unintentionally Sharknado bad.

Pretty good! But not as good as The Protector - the four-minute single take of Tony "Bone-breaking machine" Jaa making his way though the restaurant will take a lot of beating.

Post subject:  Re: The Movie topic

Ooh, mental note to seek out more Tony Jaa-ness. I haven't heard much from him in a while.

I've watched a film "A Haunted House 2"

It's that Wayans Brother who made Scary Movie. This time he's back for another crack at a parody of Paranormal Activity.

I can tell you this much: his humour is not for me. Too much racial comedy. The black guys are gang banging ass thugs who say cuzzzz while the white people are suburbanites who wear jumpers tied around their necks. It's crass, stupid and largely offensive.

Then he has a five minute sequence where he has sex with a demonic doll and suddenly I'm in stitches against my will.

Then he has a fight with a hen which is also hilarious.

It's garbage but those two bits gave me some guilty laughs If you liked Scary Movie then you'll like this, but I can't honestly see anyone on here liking that shit cause you're all way too awesome.

Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes last night.

There's a lot of silly in it that you can't help but notice (a video camera that has been left plugged in for 10 years by quite the stroke of luck and the battery hasn't just corroded the fuck away) and you can predict quite a lot of the dialogue and some of the characters are absolutely 2 dimensional or just plain boring.

However - the underlying conflict and the apes themselves are really well done with no obvious strings attached other than one point where they pick up a woman and she kicks out and it just looks massively out of place. That only sticks out so much because the rest of it just looks completely real.

Overall 7 / 10. If you like dual machine gun wielding apes on horseback (I SHIT YOU NOT) then this is the kind of thing you will like.

To prove Lewie's point about Guardians otg I thought it was okay but not that great.

Too frenetic, too superficial. Difficult to truly care for anyone.

Still it was pretty good fund whilst it lasted (which wasn't too long) and it looked lovely. Could possibly have used a bit more downtime though as it was a bit of a barrage on the senses.

I really liked The Purge: Anarchy though. That was pretty much the movie I expected it to be, which was satisfying. Nothing truly special and rather predictable but it does its job properly.
