Well, see, I thought I'd seen it, but then I didn't recognise the clips they showed.

I suppose I should watch Top Gun one of these days. (And Stand By Me.. and Breakfast Club). One of my friends at school knew the dialogue for the whole film.

Breakfast Club is fucking awful.

Top Gun hasn't aged well, surely? I can't watch it without cringing at the "Oh no! Poor little America standing up to those big scary Russkies and their elite pilots and amazing technology!"

Top Gun was a gleaming jingoistic turd when it was made and it's aged like a turd. It's been parodied and referenced to death. Terrible

Top Gun was magnificent when created and is magnificent to this day. I watch it every few months because it's just fucking glorious.

I'm surprised to hear that because it certainly looks absolutely fucking awful.

Talking of which, the trailer for Colossal, the current Anne Hathaway film, also makes it look fucking terrible but it reviewed pretty well so I gave it a shot. At first the film falls in line with the terrible romcom that the trailer tries to sell you, but about half way through it becomes clear that it couldn't give a fuck for your stupid concept of 'genres' and blithely mixes romcom with sci-fi with thriller. It doesn't stick the landing entirely but the heel turn of one of the characters that underpins the last section is properly chilling, and makes it even more amusing that Legion's Dan Stevens didn't seem to get the memo about what type of film he was actually acting in. It's not hurt by the fact that the two leads turn in very good performances throughout, especially Hathaway who juggles the demands of the different genres incredibly well.

Also, the next 20 pages of this thread are going to be you sadsacks arguing the 'merits' of assorted awful 80s nonsense aren't they?

Saw GotG2 again at the cinema. Might have even enjoyed it more the second time. The slower bits were less good, but I seemed to enjoy a lot of the comedy bits more. Odd. Either way, still great fun.

Also, all the trailers looked good!

The Last Jedi! Kingsman 2! Justice League (classic DC good trailer bad film likely, though I suspect Jason Momoa is going to steal the film as Aquaman and become a Rock-esque funny and cool tough guy staple)! Also some others, but all looked fun!

Speaking of trailers, I'm calling it now that the Wonder Woman film is going to be dogshit.

There's an animated version of the origin story on Amazon* Prime that covers the same ground and I quite enjoyed it.

The movie looks like all of the recent DC films though: Flashy and overly serious. Here's hoping for some heart.

The word of mouth coming from press screenings in the states is that it's very good and being hailed as the best DCU film so far. Granted, not a high watermark if you exclude Nolan.

The trailer for Baywatch was surprisingly funny. As was the first one. The movie might actually not suck (though this will largely depend on your tolerance for that kind of thing).

The trailer looked EPIC and the film will be EPIC.

From the same people who made Horrible Bosses so I've got good vibes that it will be decent. Plus I reckon The Rock isn't a terrible actor at all, for the roles he gets.

Mrs Squirt has certain... "opinions" about both Mr The Rock and Zac Efron, and is heartily looking forward to watching this film.

T2: Trainspotting: A decent sequel that was fortunately much less depressing than its predecessor. Yeah, kinda alright, but could have done without the betrayal that was telegraphed with all of the subtly of a caber toss into your face.

Lego Batman: man, was I not in the mood for this. I didn't like the colours (like someone was smearing pastel crayons across my eyeballs) or the amount of action that was on screen at any one time (it was like Michael Bay's Transformers' transformer fights for lots of sequences). They can obviously animate lego really well so why ruin your shots with multiple amounts of eyefuckery. Still, it was reasonably well written with a couple of good laughs in there, it just lacked much heart for a kids film. A sigh then a light meh.

Oh and I watched Bitter Lake, the Adam Curtis documentary film on Afghanistan. A must see for anyone.

Rocky is f'n awesome, I think he is a true star. The Baywatch trailer looked pretty good.

Fucking hell, apparently Zack Snyder's daughter committed suicide in March, poor bastard. He's stepping down from doing Justice League and Whedon's taking over for the final shoots and post-production.

I watched Shadow Dancer last night. Andrea Riseborough plays a woman in an IRA family who's heart doesn't seem to be in the bombings she takes part in and Clive Owen is her MI5 handler who turns her after she's caught at the start of the film. Not enough is really made of the relationship between the two leads and the tension never ratchets as high as it easily could so there feels like a loss of potential; but it's still very compelling stuff and doesn't outstay it's welcome. Also the ending properly dropped my jaw (though I suspect other less stupid people would've seen it coming). Highly recommended.

I'm disappointed that Shadow Dancer isn't a film about a ninja and his dog.
