You don't need to have watched The Wolverine to do anything. Aside from 'wasted a couple of hours watching The fucking Wolverine'. It's a pre-requisite if you're planning that in.

We are going to watch The Wolverine too, neither of us have seen it.

I watched X-Men for the first time the other night. It was terrible.

The original one? I still think it's the best of the seven.

ETA: sorry, of the six. It might end up being the best of the seven but I can't really claim that until after I've seen the new one.

New Disney film , out in America for Christmas - out in the UK for Feb so you'll probably have seen it before it hits the cinemas here :-(

The second Hunger Games film was a bit shit.

Rather late to the party for me but I watched this on Netflix last night and by crikey what a fantastic and expertly assembled film it is!

I liked the way it played a chunk of its hand right from the start so you knew full well there was a lot more than the standard genre set-up going on, thus had 'more' to watch as it were. (Roger Ebert considered it so little of a spoiler he actually gave a synopsis of some of it in his review.)

Everything about it was spot-on, 95 minutes of pure quality entertainment, I'm just amazed it took me so long to getting round to watch it.

By crikey the stuff they can get away with at Cert 15 these days though!

Just watched NON-STOP, the latest Liam Neeson film.

A sort of who-done-it action thriller set on board a passenger plane.

Popcorn entertainment with a few plot-points that will make you think "Oh, f**k off !".

Still quite fun though if you turn your brain off. Much better than TAKEN 2, that's for sure !

I usually don't agree with younger me, but not this time.

Cabin in the Woods is great.

Rewatched 30 Days Of Night this evening, that's a good solid vampire flick, where the vampires are proper nasty bastards instead of semi-romantic fucking Tom Cruise types.

Just watched OCULUS.

Good psychological horror film.

Stars Karen Gillan. I'm not a Doctor Who fan and not really familiar with her other work but she's good in this.

Really enjoyed it. Far from a classic but much better & more interesting than the usual dumbed-down teen horror films that rule the box-office these days.

We watched this last night. I quite enjoyed it. It reminded me of one of Joans' cheap Japanese films but without the need for subtitles.

An okay film that by and large passed by without doing anything particularly impressive or exciting. Very scant story wise I feel. Jolie looked wonderful though.

Cabin in the woods was great, in my top 5 for sure. I found it refreshingly different and fun.

Yeah, that was pretty good. The concept was interesting, Yo-hanson sounds hot and Whack-eem acts the shit out of it.

I thought it started well, but then went down an oft-travelled path.

The twist was hardly hard to see coming, either. But it was okay. More sci-fi spookiness needs to exist.

Edge of Tomorrow: unexpectedly good.

"It's a boy girl thing": body swap story with a promising start and middle but ends up overly sentimental.

The Change-Up is the best body swap movie, I reckon.

Did you see it in 3D and, if so, was the 3D up to scratch ?

Only ask because I'm going to see it Tuesday & undecided between the 2D & 3D versions.
It's one of those films where the 3D was added in post-production rather actually being filmed in 3D, and
they often look a bit shit. Can't find any reviews of the 3D version.

We've just watched The Desolation Of Smaug thanks to the Chromecast free movie code Grim... posted a few days ago.

Well, I love the Hobbit/LOTR stories and movies anyway. I don't know if I just notice/remember it more, but this one seemed heavier on the CGI. Good fun, though, and I always love the scenes with Legolas due to them always being the best choreographed and also his sex face (though, I thought, less sexy face, maybe because he is clearly a lot older now but they've tried to make him look younger, I think, and there are some moments when his face seems to be doing weird things, I think because of some CGI trickery. But anyway, a little nod to the 2nd LOTR movie choreography where he surfboards his shield down the staircase. Sexy Elf. He looks great blonde.

Anyway, yes, movie. Goodness

I saw it in Imax 3D yesterday and I wouldn't say the 3D was great. No depth really, just background blurriness. I would go for the 2D.

Cheers for that. 2D version is on at a more convenient time & I prefer to pass on 3D versions unless they add a significant amount to the experience.
Sounds like that's not the case here so 2D version it is.

P.S. In case anyone's interested, here's a handy site that keeps tabs on which films are "Real 3D" (ie. actually filmed in 3D) or "Fake 3D" (converted to 3D during post-production, often with dodgy results - GRAVITY seems to be the one major exception to the rule here).

No problem and enjoy, I liked the film. Good mix of action and slight humour. Much much better than Oblivion.

And I'm with you, the 3d needs to add something. And that's only ever been two films for me, Hugo and Gravity.

Also thanks for the link, real 3d is way better even if the film is not. It's good to see that Jupiter Ascending is.

Gravity is almost entirely CGI, though. Why would it not be real 3D? I'm probably over-simplifying but surely it's just a case of doing another render at the other angle.

The LEGO Movie: Everything is awesome. Until the live action ending. Then everything is shit.

90% awesome.

I thought that, but the second time I saw it those bits felt much shorter and better.

Plus the end gag with the sister was awesome.
