I'm also a fan of Greek synth-pop band Marsheaux.

In my opinion, this would make a great substitute for "Real Hero".

What's the point of giving a new score to a film that already has a great soundtrack. Why not do it to a film with a shitty score?

Potential boo to re-sound tracking drive, although that seems to risk snobbery. I agree with the above, their efforts would have been better spent elsewhere.

I watched a Million Ways to Die in the West.

Christ, it's just awful, isn't it? Isn't it? Brian from Family Guy may be a funny writer (well, actually, I'd disagree with myself right here but for the sake of this paragraph I'll assume he's written some funny lines) but he's just a terrible actor. There's something about him that's unlikeable; something about his face that's not right, and something about his overall screen presence that does not make him a star. At all. I've got a feeling that he's got a massive ego too which is why he was unable to give him his role to someone who might have done a much better job.

And, really, there's a shitting gag?

I'm sure he thought this would be all very clever but it's awful. Man alive...

Oh man... We tried watching this on Sunday afternoon. I knew very little about it, other than Liam Neeson and Charlize Theron were in it and it was a comedy. It was horrendous, the worst movie I have ever attempted to sit through. It was in exactly the right humour for a 10-15 year old; the "jokes" were shockingly awful and I switched it off after the particularly laboured asshole "joke" near the beginning.

It's not in any way subtle or clever, all of the moments that you're apparently supposed to find funny can be seen from space. Perhaps it's my fault for watching it and expecting anything other than the shit Seth MacFarlane peddles as comedy. I thought Ted was bad but this... This is in a whole other league of cringe inducing awfulness.

I really cannot adequately describe how awful it was - there were a couple of physical comedy moments that raise a slight 'heh' and I found the horses name quite funny but unless you think Seth McFarlane is some kind of God, or you're 11: Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I agree about him being unlikeable, he looks a bit like a baby doll I think, which is fine because not everyone is movie-star handsome but he looks odd in a 'I can't quite put my finger on it' distracting way. And he's definitely a terrible actor.

The kids whinged when I turned it off, so I sent it to one of their xboxes so that could watch it upstairs. They thought it was hilarious. But they love Sacha Baron Cohen movies and Family Guy etc. so it was definitely their kind of level. We put Godzilla (2014) on. Which looked Oscar-worthy in comparison.

He looks like Joey Tribbiani's fat older brother.

Also, he does the same voice for everything and it winds me up.

Also, he dodged death on 9/11 and The Reaper from Final Destination is really slack.

You know he does the voice for Peter, Brian, Stewie, Quagmire and Tom Tucker in Family Guy and Stan and Roger in American Dad, right?

I quite enjoyed A million ways to die in the west. It was basically a live action Family Guy though, with the random jokes etc... but not as good.

Family Guy is excellent in the main, usually when it's being very clever. Family Guy 2: the American Daddening, not so much. Family Guy 3: The Enclevelanding, even less so. I didn't watch Ted because I'm not a fan of puerile humour (it's something to do when you're with your friends, not make a movie out of), and this sounds like it's the same.

Sinister is pretty good.

I wanted to hate A Million Ways to Die In the West but in actual fact found it rather enjoyable.

So I've just come out of the cinema where I watched The Book Of Life with the Grimlet, and I was totally blown away.

I'm not sure how good it is for kids (although the Grimlet seemed to approve) because it's basically a love story crossed with "this is what death is". And there's a pig.

Although the themes are really quite dark, it's never scary or threatening (although the bandits and some of the bullfights may scare younger kids), and it looks amazing (especially when they go to the Land of the Remembered). And the songs are great (I particularly liked Creep).

And it's got Ron fucking Perlman in it.

The whole thing was beautiful, in every way.

I saw the trailer for it a while back, and while the story looked potentially dull, the animation/cinematography was incredible.

If the story et al is actually better than the trailer suggested then I am interested!

I thought it was great.

Watched THE BABADOOK last night.

Very good Australian horror / thriller film that gets by very well on atmosphere, great acting from the two main characters (a mother & son) and a general sense of dread & unease.
It's far from original but it's quite unlike most modern American horror films that rely on cheap jump-scares & blatant music / soundtrack cues.

It currently has a 96% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's a bit over the top IMO but it's definately a very solid film. 8/10.

Edit : I forgot that the 96% is simply the percentage of reviewers who thought it was "good" rather than "bad". The average score from all reviewers is 8/10 so basically, what I said......

I too went to see this on Saturday, with Mrs Fop and Findus the Younger.

The Younger loved it. I thought it was decent. Looks incredible, without a doubt. But I found there was something pretty charmless and vacant about the protagonists. I should have warmed to the guitar-twiddling hero, yet found his lantern jaw and relentless moping a pain in the chimichanga. And his anti-hero pal was not obnoxious enough for me to feel strongly about either.

Supporting cast was largely excellent, mental and out-there, aside from the child-pricks at the beginning, who are kickable without exception.

But the fights were badass (arguably more bad ass than my 3 year old needed them to be), the music pleasingly recognisable, though it did mean accidental Mumford & Sons consumption, and the Day of the Dead setting was actually enlightening. Quite a rewarding perspective of death, it feels like.

And it got rather dusty in there at the end. But then I am prone to bouts of sobbing.

Get in line, ladies.

I guess I was just hoping for Pixar-levels of character to complement the wonderous setting and aesthetic.

It still hit the right notes to make me sniffle. Something Chico also managed when he first performed Chico Time on X-Factor. I think I was at a low ebb then.

Toy Story 4 is a'coming.

Yeah, bit disappointed with that, but hopefully they do something sufficiently different with enough different toys to make it worthwhile. They've earned at least a little slack via the quality of the past ones.

Yeah, it's a near-perfect trilogy. Mixed feelings but I guess it was inevitable.

The Toy Story Toons series have been most enjoyable. Partysaurus Rex is dynamite

Saw Interstellar last night. I loved it. Even though the cinema I went to (Screen on the Green, Islington) is shit both visually and aurally, I found the 3 hour running time tripped by unnoticed. I would recommend seeing it on the best screen you can. It isn't flawless and it certainly isn't a space western, so don't go expecting one. It could legitimately be accused of being a little too metaphysical, but I think it works by and large and you can debate the meaning endlessly afterward if you so desire.

Dont get my wrong I love cinema and IMAX and all that but at over £30 for me and the lady to see it on IMAX and no good seats, we are opting for a standard 2D affair at half the price.

If it really is outstanding, itll still be playing on IMAX in a few weeks time...

In other news, I saw NightCrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal and can thoroughly recommend it, based if nothing else on his absolutely incredible performance.
Helps that the movie itself was good, too.

Interstellar was pure cinema.
Lots to debate, looked gorgeous, McConnoughey was class as always.

Gremlins reboot is coming, along with a Goonies sequel.

So I've been watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (nowhere near as good as the one before it) and there's been times when I simply couldn't tell what was CGI and what was actually there. It "must" have been a combination at times but if some of the scenes I thought were real were actually CGI then it was breathtaking.

Have you seen Gravity? That takes the cake for photo-real CGI for me.

Or Boardwalk Empire.

Went to see Interstellar in IMAX last night.

Didn't drag despite the run time and resisted the temptation to do a Dr Who ending. I really enjoyed it and it threw a few surprises at me.

I want a TARS though. Someone get me a TARS.

I saw Interstellar the other day and it was alright. Looked and sounds lovely (the soundtrack is fucking awesome) and was very well acted but bits of it annoyed me.



I'm sure there was other stuff that bothered me but those are the main things. I mean I enjoyed it and everything, some of the sequences on the planets were incredibly impressive and to me it nailed the idea of time relativity very well, but I struggled to suspend my disbelief at times.
