Thought Kingsman was average at best

Did watch Mcfarland USA and thought it was a great film and good effort by Kevin Costner

Ex Machina is fantastic. Highly recommended. I really liked how the first half presented situations that raised a bunch of questions in my mind, and then the second half addressed all these questions in interesting or intelligent ways. One of the better sci fi movies I've seen in a while. It has shades of Her and Black Mirror.

I watched this the other night and it was brilliant. Really reminded me of the Black Mirror episode that he also starred in. Recommend.

San Andreas could be the worst disaster film since, um, volcano. No, hang on, Godzilla.

Last night I watched the Hunger Games. It was quite predictable and pretty rubbish.

The recent one was quite good.

I love Godzilla films, though.

Man Up - A tedious brit rom com that races through many contrived and unbelievable situations whilst relying desperately on sex gags for humour. Simon Pegg and Lake Bell never seemed to have any actual chemistry at any time in the film (not helped in particular by Pegg's manner of acting). There was more believable romance in the few seconds where he and Jessica Hynes meet in Shaun of the Dead than the entirety of this slab predictable tedium.

Shame, I quite fancied that; I like Pegg in general and Lake Bell is just lovely. Also: in possession of one of the finest pairs of breasts I've ever seen.

Be aware though that everyone thinks I'm utterly wrong about films all the time so you may wish to view this as a great endorsement of the film being brilliant. I still feel it didn't really have much to its humour other than 'gags' about sex. It's a good performance from Lake Bell and a standard performance from Simon Pegg.

Most critics and audiences seem to disagree with me so that may be further proof that I'm wrong as usual.

I don't particularly like Lake Bell. I don't think I've ever seen her boobs though so I reserve the right to do an abrupt u-turn on that opinion.

Ex Machina. Felt a little let down by this as the end is, well, ridiculous.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
You're a billionaire semi recluse genius coder who creates an AI humanoid robot, you're aware that something becoming truly sentient could become dangerous and you don't build in a fucking failsafe! WTF.

Prior to that it was very good but I've seen more thought provoking sci-fi in the past, in fact going so far as to state that considering that it's dealing with AI, it isn't really thought provoking at all, more portentous and a little pretentious. Acting is universally excellent.

Kingsman. Pretty much what I was expecting it to be, considering the writer/director combo. Don't really know what else to say without going into a plot synopsis — the plot is a little hackneyed, but it's done with genuine panache.

Sabotage was fairly good. I'm liking Arnie's current ouevre - Last Stand was very very good; this is not quite in the same mould, but has the same old skool Arnie feel to it. Yes, the plot has a few holes in it, and yes it has that sort of Australian guy who was in the Unit, and some weird woman who appears to be an actual meth addict, but it was very watchable

Poltergeist (2015) - It made me jump quite a few times (not hard to do) and Sam Rockwell puts in a decent performance. Pretty much the only decent performance actually. If you've not seen the original and feel desperate to watch a horror film and you're about 13 years old and probably a girl (as it seems from what I can gather from my retail work selling dvds, girls seem to rather enjoy watching scary movies at sleepover type things), you'll probably quite enjoy it. Anyone else who is not prone to jumping at shock scares will basically get absolutely nothing out of it.

I am quite neutral about the first one. I'm not really much of a horror film fan. It's been far too long since I've seen it to really know properly what my opinion is on it. I can guarantee this adds nothing to a movie you love though and will only take things from it. Their attempt at "They're heeeeere." is just a flat "They're here.".

Just watched KAJAKI : http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/kajaki/?search=kajaki

By crikey, that was intense and harrowing !

True story, portrayed in a very realistic manner (eg. no music through-out, genuine-sounding banter from the soldiers gives it a very life-like feel etc.), and solid acting from actors you've probably never heard of (it just wouldn't have worked if they'd cast famous actors).

Scarier than 99% of horror films I've seen (there were several moments I watched from behind my hands) plus some bits of black humour too.

Absolutely not for the mainstream viewer who just wants to sit back & be casually entertained but, if like me, you like films that shred your nerves, this film is very impressive.

Watched Kingsman last night and thought it was, erm, I'll go with 'good but not great'.

Great action sequences and some decent laughs, although I think you need to be in the right mood to enjoy it, which I probably wasn't to begin with but as it went on it brought me into its world.

Loved seeing Jackson camping it up, good acting all round really.

Not as good as Kick Ass though, and the violence was a bit too slapstick, it never quite managed the grittiness that Kick Ass had.

Went on a bit too long towards the end as well.

7.5/10 - a fun way to pass a couple of hours.

Yeah, that lived with me for some time afterwards. The point where Ken explains why he's called Ken - there was no need for me, because it had been obvious in what he'd said just before. But that showed how gripped I was, hanging on every word, paying attention to every nuance. It is brilliantly done. I don't like horror at all; this is harrowing and grim rather than schlocky*.

I've had it ready to watch for ages. Seems to have been a bit of an Emperor's New Clothes sort of thing. At first everyone seemed to be bumming it stupid but now it seems people have come to their senses a bit and are saying it's actually a bit pretentious and shit. Not sure I can be arsed even trying now.

The whole 'robot learning to be human' thing just seems very schmaltzy--almost vomit-inducing Spielbergian from the trailer--and usually I wouldn't give it the time of day but I'll watch it at some point because Die Antwoord.

That whole storyline does seem to be reminiscent of a family action movie but it's amusing as well and I liked the way it made me think about consciousness and human identity and nature vs nurture.

Birdman is a fantastic film and I won't hear a bad word said about it ;)

It's essentially a Michael Keaton biopic, which to my mind is why his performance is so utterly amazing.

A great technical achievement too IMO with the impression of it being all one long cut.

Yeah, I loved Birdman, though the ending jars. I think it does lead you down the path of 'some kind of superhero movie' when actually it's about acting and theatre really, but those drawn in by the Birdman (which has a much bigger presence in the trailer than the film) I've spoken to have judged it differently.

I watched half of it and so far, I agree with Jem.

In other news: I've just found out how they did the rippling water effect in Jurassic park. There was a guy off camera, playing a specific note on a guitar which made the concentric circles in the cup. Very clever.

I had always assumed they just got Wayne Knight to jump up and down nearby.

THIS was absolutely brilliant.

I can't recommend this enough. The fact that it's a true story makes it even worse to watch.

Watch. It. Now.

This appears at the end of Bird Man, presumably an anti-piracy dig.

All I thought when I saw it was “It wasn’t worth it.”

I saw Danny Collins and San Andreas yeterday.

Danny Collins is fully of the sort of hackneyed cliche ridden schmaltz you'd expect but has some great dialogue interactions between Danny and the hotel manager woman. And things don't always turn out completely perfect in every situation but it's still mostly feel good pleasant stuff. I really enjoyed it.

San Andreas was also decidedly enjoyable and has the daughter being the one doing the saving of her boyfriend through most of the film which is quite nice. She's the strong one and he's the more simpering type in need of rescuing. The Rock is as pleasing a lead as ever and the disaster looks great. Sadly the Rock doesn't at any point pull the fault back together, which is a shame. One slight negative for me is the constant praying to god suggested by Giamatti's character and people holding hands praying at the end. Also the ending featuring the American flag unfurling to the dialogue of "What do we do now?" "We rebuild" is a bit vomit inducing but other than that it's good fun stuff and quite a spectacle.

Not exactly a film, but I did see it at the cinema - Man and Superman, NT live (repeated) broadcast. I didn't know what to expect, but it's a riot. I knew it was a long play, and that makes for a long evening, but time accelerated and Ralph Fiennes was excellent without taking over - scenes with him and Ana (Indira Varma) were gripping. Couldn't get the smile off my face at the end.
