I've watched the film three times now (for *waves hands vaguely* reasons and stuff), and every single time I've thought "Christ that guy's making a fucking meal of this isn't he - stop doing that stupid clicky mouth thing as well".

It's not too much of a stretch to accuse him of RUINING THE ENTIRE FILM.

Uwe Boll has given up Crowdfunding. He was very sweary about it.

Personal highlight: "I have enough money to play golf until I'm dead."

OBJECTION!

Assault on Wall Street was ridiculously awful revenge porn whereby if you had the temerity to work in the same building as some people that were fiscally irresponsible you are fair game for getting a bullet in the head. And the multiple murderer that commits this act gets to walk away and you can cheer him as he wanders off into the sunset. As an IT nerd that could have been you just looking at someone's PC about to say "Er , you know your Number Lock key is not on right/" when BOOM! Shot in the head for standing near someone that may have once possibly cooked the books.

The moral of that film appears to be - if bad shit happens then never mind you can just kill everyone and make it all better.

I know it's had mixed reactions on here thusfar, but I say nuts to the haters, Chappie is great.

Not a perfect film, yes I can see its flaws, and it's not as good as District 9 or Elysium (maybe tied with Elysium), but it's still a really good flick.

Two hours of solid movie entertainment with a dose of thinky stuff thrown into the mix too.

Looking forward to seeing what Blomkamp does next.

I liked this one - 8/10.

So the other night I watched a couple of British films. That's about all I will watch tbh (apart from The Purge which I thought was awesome). Any way, I decided to watch St George's Day which was pretty good and had a nice twist at the end. Also nice to see Craig Fairbrass back.

Then I watched something called "The Guvnors" or something. It was the most discombobulated pile of toss I have ever seen in my entire life. It was about a young hoodlum who went around slicing people's faces with a Stanley knife, yet the film was the most stupid pile of crap I have ever seen. It was almost like they just thought up the cutting scenes to try and make the film bad ass when it was quite clearly as lame as a pair of my socks I've had on for a week*

*I don't really wear socks for a week it was just a comparison to how shite this film was.

I was a little disappointed tbh. Usually Brit flicks are pretty gritty and awesome but this was just stupid.

Jurassic World. Better than The Lost World and JP3, but still not a patch on the original - but then, that's never going to happen.

Very enjoyable film, let down by a few character issues and a major plot hole ( although this can easily be explained away )

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Everything goes to shit when the spangly new I-Rex escapes from its containment unit. This happens because the I-Rex tricks the humans into thinking she's already escaped, using camouflage and thermal regulating abilities which fools the cameras. People go into the pen and leave the door open.

They then track her using her GPS implant, and realise she IS still in the pen.

Why would they not track via GPS first?

Coherence - Xander from Buffy and some other people have a dinner party whilst a comet passes close by to earth and some freaky goings on happen involving parallel universes and other selves. Super extra low budget (no sfx at all really) and mostly just people talking to each other in a room but strangely brilliant. The slightly mysterious intrigue of what is suggested to be happening keeps you hooked as well as people you can like - there doesn't seem to be the usual selection of nice and nasty people, just people. Loved it.

You can watch it on Netflix. In Sweden.

I watched this last year (and think I posted a review of it on this thread at the time - not sure though, as clicking on "View Your Posts" seems to only bring up the names of the threads that I've posted on in the past, rather than the actual comments I posted. Good luck finding your contributions in a thread with several hundred replys ! Pretty sure this never used to be the case....am I doing somethig wrong ?).

But, yes, very good film. I would describe it as a feature-length Twilight-Zone episode that works really well & keeps you intrigued through-out.

By crikey, that was intense and harrowing !

True story, portrayed in a very realistic manner (eg. no music through-out, genuine-sounding banter from the soldiers gives it a very life-like feel etc.), and solid acting from actors you've probably never heard of (it just wouldn't have worked if they'd cast famous actors).

Scarier than 99% of horror films I've seen (there were several moments I watched from behind my hands) plus some bits of black humour too.

Absolutely not for the mainstream viewer who just wants to sit back & be casually entertained but, if like me, you like films that shred your nerves, this film is very impressive.

THIS was absolutely brilliant.

I can't recommend this enough. The fact that it's a true story makes it even worse to watch.

Watch. It. Now.

Please.

:this:

100% agree with all previous comments about this film - brilliant, but upsetting and harrowing. I'm only typing this now to try to get it out of my head a bit.

I can't remember if a film's ever made me flinch, and cower, like this did.

No score, just a pic.

Do you want to see Jason Statham take the piss out of all his action characters so well you nearly turn yourself inside out laughing?

Well, then you need to sit through the rest of Spy. Sorry.

Although Allison Janney is quite funny, too.

Aw man; I thought it was good. A few odd changes of tone - and I spotted a continuity error (and don't normally care about such things) so perhaps that's indicative of a lack of polish. But it's mighty good.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be - but I'm not sure I could ever call the rest of it good.

It was good overall though, because Statham.

Spy - Awful slapstick with lowest common denominator humour. Well that's what it looked like from the trailer. What I actually got was something far more clever (whilst also featuring the aforementioned stuff too) with brilliant self mocking humour from Statham and script that does a great job of showing up male ego. It's also great for the idea of people can defy what expectations you may have of them based on their outward appearance. I was often in hysterics which really surprised me.

Survivor - Not even Milla Jovovich can save this bland nonsensical thriller. Pierce Brosnan is a hired assassin known as the Watchmaker and is like the ultimate badass. Well at least until it came to having to deal with someone who by luck escaped his bombing of a cafe. He's also involved in some strange terrorist plot to blow up Time square on New Year's Eve and as I say none of it really works or is ever particularly interesting. It's not terrible but it's just not something which can stand out against the millions of other thrillers out there. It's okay £3 straight to DVD or Netflix fodder. If you really like Milla Jovovich (as I do) or Pierce Brosnan and have absolutely nothing else to watch one day then maybe watch this.

"Did you tell him it was a lake?"

Frankly Statham had me in tears of laughter in his first scene. The whole stuff about the Face Off machine as well.

Thing is in a way he basically just plays it utterly straight as he has done in his 'serious' films and that's where the charm is; he knows it's ridiculous and he's enjoying that whilst playing it straight.

Watched Dallas Buyers Club last night. Mathew McConaughey plays a womanising hard drinking cowboy who contracts HIV, who is forced, due to the situation of lack of drugs and the FDA being boneheaded, to source alternative treatments for his condition. In doing so he sets up a club that fellow sufferers can join, thus bypassing the regulations on the import of drugs and other healthy supplements that couldn't be sold. In other words, pay a membership, get the drugs for free. The acting is brilliant, particularly McConaughey and Jared Leto and it's clear to see why they both won Oscars. In parts uncomfortable viewing and really quite moving. It is lightened by some very black humour, particularly in the transition of McConaughey's character from red neck homophobe to, well, slightly less of one.
The car nerd in me was amused to see, in several scenes in the second half of the movie, that there is a large poster of a Lamborghini Aventador on the wall behind McConaughey's office chair, which is surprising as the film is based on a true story that took place between 1985 and 1992.

Dallas Buyers Club is an excellent film -- but, indeed, tough to watch.

I thoroughly enjoyed Spy but then again I like Feig/McCarthy's other films and this is very much more of the same. Highlight for me (apart from Statham, who was brilliant) was anytime McCarthy was swearing at Rose Byrne. Roll on Ghostbusters.

Watched Under the Skin last night and loved it, utterly mesmerising from start to finish. Even though there's great swathes of it where very little happening the atmosphere it creates just had me transfixed. There's a scene with Scarlett Johansson analysing her naked body in the mirror where I somehow found myself not 'noticing' that it was Scarlett Johansson completely naked in front of me and was instead contemplating her body as a sort of odd machine in the same way her character was. Which is a hell of a fucking trick for the film to pull given my general thoughts on how lovely she is.

I did a search here just to see what other people thought about it and it turns out I'm going to have to add LewieP into the same mental category as Nhyrrjiyhengehrhgeb in terms of how seriously I take his opinions from now on in.

How odd, I watched Under The Skin last night as well, despite it having been on my 'stuff to watch' list for months.

Amazing film, and frequently quite upsetting and/or unsettling.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Toddler on the beach, facial disfigurement guy, guys in the black gloop looking at each other - in particular.

Mind you, I couldn't completely ignore the fact I was looking at naked Scarlett Johansson, holy moley that woman has a fine figure.

A very brave film, Glazer clearly had a vision for how he wanted it all to look and sound and 'feel' - and he's achieved something quite remarkable. Stayed with me for a while afterwards too.

'Sexy Beast' (one of Glazer's other films) is incredible stuff too.

Not all of them, at least a couple were part of the production from the start. I think all of the guys she chatted up but didn't pick up (because, in the narrative, she found something out that meant their disappearance would be too easily noticed) were random passers-by and maybe one of the guys she actually takes home.

Here's a peculiar thing, I just watched Under The Skin on sunday. I thought it was rather good whilst also being boring. The people in my company found it just boring and were largely taking the piss out of it which ruined the atmosphere somewhat. But it was an atmospheric and peculiar production with one of the most disturbingly creepy images I have ever seen in a film.

People of Beex - so it turns out Jurassic World is a 12A not a 12, so the kids want to go see it, cos their friends have. Does anyone think it's unsuitable for a 7 and 8 year old to watch?

It's fine for kids, nothing particularly gruesome in the film except for a bit of a protracted death for one of the minor characters in the film and a few jump scares.

JURASSIC WORLD is a science fiction action sequel set in a dinosaur theme park which suffers a security failure with an enclosure.

THREAT
Several sequences of moderate threat include humans being chased by dinosaurs, or hiding when aggressive dinosaurs are nearby. Some children are shown being scared and upset, but they reassure each other and are not harmed.

INJURY DETAIL
Occasional bloody moments feature, without any strong detail or clear focus on injuries. There is sight of blood spray on a window and some blood is seen falling through a tree canopy as a person is killed by a dinosaur. A man is stabbed in the chest when a pterodactyl flies into him.

VIOLENCE
Action violence as dinosaurs chase and attack humans, with several people picked up in the jaws of gigantic dinosaurs. Soldiers fire guns at the dinosaurs to try and stop them. There are also some fights between dinosaurs.

There is mild bad language, including several uses of 'shit' and 'son of a bitch'.

I was pretty shocked at the number of kids under 7 who were in the cinema to watch it on Sunday night. And then really not shocked at the number of them crying. Depends on how resilient your kids are to scary monsters chasing and eating people. The scene Gaz mentioned was the worst scene for me, it wasn't gory violence but it was a terrifying way to die. Younger kids would probably be less bothered about that, unless they're particularly empathetic.

Have they seen the other Jurassic Park movies? This one is probably no more gruesome and probably less scary, in terms of peril, than Jurassic Park.

I'd tend to wait with things like that and get it on DVD (or other media) to watch in the middle of the day with them.

They've seen the first three films, and they love them, although there is a bit in #3 that I haven't let them watch (dead rotting corpse guy in the parachute). They're generally good at understanding that stuff isn't real.

also keep in mind impact in the cinema vs TV at home
I let Katie watch things at home (where I can turn the sound down or draw her attention to her sandwich etc or straight out skip bits) that I would never let her watch in a cinema (total immersion + loud and huge etc)
but you know your kids so, trial watch sounds good :)

I watched Max Mad Road Fury last night. I think I have only just caught my breath.

Moreso than Watchmen (and way more interesting) it seemed like a graphic novel made real. It felt like I was sat in the pages of a story that I couldn't escape from. I don't think I have flinched anywhere near as much in any movie ever.

Felt like I attended an event rather than watched a film by the time I left.

Awesome.

There's a handful of really witty/smart/subversive moments in Jurassic World, but I didn't really care for it as a whole.

It's a right old mess of a film, full of plotholes, poorly developed characters, ill thought out setpieces and really hamfisted callbacks to the original movie.

Almost as if it has been in development hell for years, and the script has been handed around through dozens of writing teams, and had any life editted out of it.

Worth a watch, but not anywhere near as impactful as the original. This is one instance where I think a reboot would have been a better idea than a sequel.

Vincent D'Onofrio's performance was great though, as always. He's a really watchable actor.

Highlights for me:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Dude trying to kiss his coleague, but she has a boyfriend.
D'Onofrio's big end monologue being interrupted by a raptor.
Random dude grabbing his drink before escaping the flying dinosaurs.

Jimmy Buffet, owner of the business he's escaping from.

Homefront - ex DEA Statham have moved to small town america after his wife died. His bullied daughter defends herself against the wrong bully which leads to bad guys from an old sting tracking down statham. Terribly dull for the most part apart from when Statham is on screen. Winona Rider is terrible in it and doesn't suit the bad guy trailer trash role she has here. One to avoid. Or at least all the bits that don't have statham in.

I watched a film: The Last Knights. I say 'watched' but I was twiddling with my phone for two hours. Take from that what you will.

I'm still slightly tempted to watch Terminator Megadrive, even though the posters and trailers give away a huge spoiler, and I expect it will be shit.

I can only assume that that spoiler is revealed well early on, or they're total dicks
