I agree with what some people have said and everyone is thinking. Cabin in the Woods is great, fool.

The tag line for the John Wick film is "Don't set him off"? No one else think that's a bit odd and crap?

I do think it's odd and crap. Coincidentally I just watched the film last night and it was decent stuff. Didn't try to overload the narrative with too much pish and was well put together, albeit a bit cliched in places.

I watched Strange Magic at the movies for juniors thing (£1.50 a ticket!). It's written by Georgie Lucas and ILM did the visuals. Basically, it's a musical about prejudice, but in a very child-friendly way. It's pretty good fun, with a few good jokes.

However, it looks incredible - like fucking amazing incredible. The lip motion when characters talk is so perfect that it's eerie, and there's so much detail in the foreground and background that there's simply not enough time to look at everything you want to.

A good film - and I'd never even heard of it.

The wife watched this with the kids a few months back. They seemed to like it. I believe I fell asleep.

I assume it's a 'wick' joke. It's not a very good one. It is a pretty decent summary of the film though.

So anyway, this "Attack the titan" film. Is it live action or an anime?

Watched 'The Man In The Machine' last night, the new Steve Jobs documentary.

I don't know if it's because I already know all the 'bad stuff' about him, or because it's actually a reasonably balanced film, because if anything I felt better disposed towards Jobs by the end of it, than before I started. (i.e. I felt I understood more what drove him.)

Clearly a man with a deep-seated emotional trauma and you can see how it instructed his entire life thereafter, I don't think he was a monster, but he wasn't a nice chap either.

Live action.

No, anime.

No, live action!

Actually it's both. Not at the same time, mind, there's an anime series that they chopped up and made into a couple of films but there's now a live action film.

AND ITS THE BEST FILM OF THIS GENERATION. The best film since Muppets Christmas Carol. The best film since Aliens. Yes, it's that good. And mental. So mental.

This comes with large caveats:

Do not read up about it.
Do not watch the anime.
Do not read the comics.
Do not even discuss it with anyone anywhere alive or in the spirit realm.
Do not read about it on forums.
Do not even watch the trailer.
Do not digest a single morsel of information about it.

You watch it and then it becomes part of your being. A shard of your very essence. Attack on Titan: more meaningful that any religious tombs.

Also I watched Spy.

Which initially put me off due to an impression that the film was going to be quite mainstream and filled with fat jokes at the expense of the main character who was painted in the trailers as a fat stereotypical cake obsessed woman.

Turns out that I could not have been more wrong. It's hilarious. It's sweary. Early on the phrase "thunder cunt" was uttered. Then Jason Statham rocked up. And he's brilliant. This time he really is Jason Statham playing Jason Statham as "Jason Statham." He's done everything that you've done but better and he'll tell you about it. Turns out however that he's the worse spy ever. I think of his character in Lock, Stock ... as his best comedic performance but he's quite excellent here in a typical comedy cast performance. I'd be quite surprised if this doesn't get him more comedy stuff as he's pretty great. Mind you, if he got a comedy gig he'd need to play Jason Statham and be all typically sweary. I don't think he could pull off a Kindergarten Cop scenario. Or maybe he could. Hell, I'd love to see him to something like this all of a sudden.

And he's not even the best bit in this as the hapless assassin spy.

Anyway, this is great too. Shit title for a movie though.

I'd have gone with "For the love of Dog" or "Dog gone it" "Killing, doggystyle."

Or something dog related. Obv.

I didn't really rate John Wick that much. But anyway yesterday I saw Bill - a fictional take on Shakespeare becoming the shakespeare playwright we know from the makers of Horrible Histories.

It's a thoroughly enjoyable film despite a slightly slow start; from the halfway point I'd say it's laughs aplenty. If you enjoy horrible histories, you'll definitely enjoy this. A more family friendly blackadder/monty python is how it tends to come over.

Bloody hell, Jack Reacher's a bit shit. Tom Cruise really is past it. And what has lovely lovely Rosamund Pike done to her boobs?

Given that the only physical description of Reacher in the books is that he's very tall... no. He's not.

It's a very, very ordinary, pedestrian, clunky film, with some dreadful delivery.

Turns out Pike was pregnant, not a boob job. Phew. Almost lost respect for her there.

I think Taken was a better Reacher type film. If that makes sense.

Looks like Pacific Rim 2 might not get made. This is A Bad Thing.

Not because of Pacific Rim, fuck Pacific Rim. But if Del Toro's Crimson Peak doesn't do well, then Pacific Rim 2 probably won't get made, which means it's even more unlikely that Hellboy 3 will get made.

So it simple - everyone go and see Crimson Peak, then PR2, and then we can have a new Hellboy. Long game, people.

Equinox is a fucking masterpiece.

Interstellar had aspects I enjoyed a lot more second time around, but I'd say it's flaws are much more apparent second time around too. Great movie.

Which "Equinox" are you talking about here ? Just wondering (IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes link would probably be helpful - I've searched myself but not found a film with that title that has generally good or great reviews).

This was probably the hardest film for me to watch since London to Brighton.

I nearly hit the stop button a good few times, as morally it's just completely fucked up.

This was tonight's film for me.

Very upsetting and a difficult watch, inspired by 'Of Mice And Men' by all accounts.

It has a moral compass and it ends as it should, even if I really didn't want it to.

The entire cast is superb, a great film, but it made me 'get something in my eye'.

8/10. Emma Stansfield's boobs could well take it to a 9/10 though. Or just Emma Stansfield herself actually, she's well nice.

It's a b movie, but it's a masterpiece. Every badly done aspect of it just adds to it.

Watched 'Cop Car' with that there Mr Kevin Bacon in it last night.

It's a very simple film in a lot of ways, two young boys (around the age of ten) find an apparently abandoned cop car and make off with it. Turns out it's not abandoned and Mr Kevin Bacon, who is the cop, wants it back.

Super-tight at just 88 minutes long (there are large chunks of what's going on that we're trusted with the intelligence to work out for ourselves from a small amount of information given to us, this film is not long on exposition), Mr Kevin Bacon is splendid (as always), and the children manage to not be totally annoying.

I liked it - 7.5/10.

NOTE - Don't watch this trailer if you think you might actually watch the film.

Yeah, same for me. It wasn't a bad film or anything and I did enjoy it but I was quite surprised at all the praise heaped on it as it really was just 'good' and not 'great'.

It's one of those stupid trailers that condenses the film into two minutes, and gives too much away IMO.

So if you like Mr Kevin Bacon and think you would possibly enjoy the film, I'd say better to steer clear of the trailer. If however you just wish to enjoy a two minute interlude featuring Mr Kevin Bacon sporting a splendid moustache, the trailer will tick that box perfectly.

I went into the film knowing very little about it, and watched the trailer afterwards, on balance I'd say the trailer would have given me information I'd rather not have known if I'd have seen it first.

Watched so many films lately I really can't remember them all, but I will try. In no specific order..

Poltergeist (the new one). It was OK as it goes. Wild Bill doesn't really act very well though, seemed a bit stiff (the dude out of Green Mile). Overall an enjoyable watch though, 7/10.

Poltergeist (the original, hadn't seen it before) Probably not a good idea to watch films that were amazing in the 80s, 'cause they don't really translate well into modern viewing. The effects for example are awful. However, can sort of see what all the fuss was about. 8/10.

Poltergeist 2, the other side. Awful. A classic example of how not to do a sequel. 3/10.

Time Lapse. I went into this thinking it would be absolutely stupid but was very pleasantly surprised. I actually thought it was rather cool. 8/10.

Poseidon (the new one). Great film. Saw it at the cinema.. My wife has been hesitant to watch it but was soon quivering with anxiety :D 7/10.

Watched 'Eden Lake' last night, never seen it before even though it's a few years old.

Bit bloody grim likes, although it subverts the genre pretty well IMO.

Made me sad.

Open Grave.

Was expecting this to be quite rubbish. It was actually very good and a fantastic method of delivering a film coming from such a tired genre (Zombies).

Was expecting a load of turds, turned out to be a very good flick. Definite 8/10.

Watched 'Mysterious Skins' on Netflix last night. A highly depressing movie about teenagers coping with the consequences of child abuse. Good performances from the leads and very evocative of small-town Kansas, but not perhaps the easiest of things to watch through to the end.

Is that the one with Joseph Gordon Levitt? We loved it when we watched it a few weeks ago but I instantly forget the name of it.
