I did too! The fact it had the lovely Ms Theron in it helped, but I found it very amusing.

Oh, and I also watched The Gift recently. A couple relocate to LA for the husband's new job and bump into an old school friend of his who's creepily intense about rekindling their friendship. The tension's ratcheted pretty high from the outset and only gets more intense as the wife starts to become suspicious of her husband's entire character through his interactions with the old school friend. I'm not sure if I've ever seen Jason Bateman in a serious role and I certainly didn't think him capable of being as aggressive and scary as he sometimes is in this; kudos to him especially but it's a brilliant film from start to finish due to everyone involved.

Alien Covenant question:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I don't understand what it is that causes Daniels to suddenly twig that Walter is David - she asks him about the cabin on the lake and he smiles and very quickly she's like hyperventilating and "David!". Why? Bizarre way for her to twig to what was fecking obvious anyway.

I took that as being that he showed no sign of emoting or recollection to the previous conversation that she'd had with Walter about the cabin on the lake.

We watched it last night. What an absolute festering pile. Ridley Scott has actually surpassed George Lucas in terms of shitting all over his own legacy.

"I watch crap films so you don't have to Part 56"

Kidnap:

Catwoman drives after the baddies for 90 minutes after they kidnap her, um, kid. She's not terrible in it but she's not the right woman for the job and the story isn't gritty enough to be engaging. In retrospect I kinda wanted Winona Ryder's manic mother from Stranger Things to play the mother instead but instead we get Berry talking to camera an awful lot in a way which isn't entirely convincing. And the ending? Oh boy, is it the most trite bollocks you've ever seen. Urgh, it destroyed any credibility right there and then. It's not awful but it is another entirely forgettable and irrelevant film.

Dead child out of 10.

Transformers: The Last Knight.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHHHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAAHHAHAHHAHAHA. Seriously? It's the shiniest dog turd you've ever seen.

The editing is worse than fucking Taken 3. There's not a single shot that lasts longer than 10 seconds. You should see this submarine sequence which must have at least 20 fucking cuts. It's an embarrassment. Oh and there's only a handful of shots where the camera isn't being held at a kooky angle for no reason at all. This muthafucker made Heat!? Fucking Heat! Unbelievable. No, what's unbelievable is that they got fucking Hannible Lecter in it. Tell a lie, the unbelievable thing is that it's probably not even the worst Transformers film. No, no, the unbelievable thing is that people paid 604 MILLION DOLLARS to watch this. No, no, no the unbelievable thing is that someone gave someone else 217 million dollars to make this.

$217,000,000.00 out of 10.

Soooo...I quite liked Ghost in the Shell. Aside from the stupid bit where she pulls her own arm off. Of all the bits to take across from the original intact, FFS.

Yeah, there's not even any good bits. It starts off pretty bad, goes downhill rapidly and then just never lets up. Remarkable in its own way really.

It looks good.
That's it, the rest is complete pants. Gutted. :(

Apparently there are still *two* more of these to come... the mind boggles.

I suspect there won't be now. BO take wasn't strong enough. Granted, if DVD/BluRay sales knock it out of the park it could still happen, but I suspect not

The 2017 Film has very good box office, there is supposed to be a 2nd part to this as well.

On Sunday night, the wife and I watched Eden Lake.

It was very uncomfortable viewing to be honest. I'm undecided whether it was any good or not...

The Alien prequels were completely unnecessary, in that we didn't need the backstory about how or why there were xenomorphs kicking around in order to be like "Oh my god! aaaah!" when watching it. They were just horror/action films. But now that they've started it, I'd like them to bloody well finish so I can have some closure.

I'd be happy with a Wikipedia article about it so I don't have to sit through another film to find out.

I think it depends. I mean something like Texas Chainsaw Massacre is similar in many respects but I think that it's fucking great. It gives you a lot of the same feelings but there's enough dark comedy and absurdity in there to offset the horror. I can't remember Eden Lake all that clearly but it has some funny bits doesn't it?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre felt grimy and otherworldly in places. Eden Lake just sounds like a bunch of horrible people being evil to each other, with some gore thrown over as garnish.

I haven't seen Eden Lake, BTW. For the same reason I haven't seen Hostel or Serbian Film. I know that I would hate it.

There's no humour in Eden Lake at all so yeah, it is very grim. Not like Texas Chainsaw Massacre at all.

I wouldn't say Eden Lake was especially gory - it wasn't even that violent. It was tense as buggery and a horrible thing to watch, but I didn't dislike it as a film.

I watched Eden Lake a couple of years ago and thought it was very good.

Knew exactly what it wanted to do, and executed it (no pun intended) with ruthless efficiency.

Would never watch it again though.

I’m sick of Marvel films. Then I watched Spider-Man Homecoming and I love them all now. It made me laugh more than a couple of times especially when his mum catches him in the end scene. What a groovy little film. Much better than Guardians of the Galaxy 2 even though Spidey had its own fair share of rubbish tropes.

'Snowden' was added to Netflix a couple of days ago, so I thought I'd give that a go last night. Certainly a lot of big names in the cast, but I think I'd have been better off with a documentary rather than a dramatisation. I find the subject interesting enough as it is without dressing stuff up (the rubik's cube bit for instance) to try and make work better as a film.
