Civil War was alright.

Why wasn't it called Avengers 3?

Spider-Man looked a bit obviously CGI. Otherwise was pretty good.

VIP cinema seating is the shit (has a button to make the seat lean back/forwards, and a USB charging point build in to the armrest).

I haven't seen Civil War yet. Do they do that CGI-eyes thing on Spidey? I could forgive it on Deadpool, because Deadpool.

See, I thought that it did a really good job of being Cap 3, despite the cast.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The Cap/Bucky friendship is the axis that the film turns around, as it was in the second film and (of course) as was set up in the first.

However

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
As was my concern before it came out, it does rather make Cap the hero, which isn't really how Civil War was meant to go down

This is because

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
He is a goddamn hero!

As for not being Avengers, I agree with DocG as the central axis is Bucky/Cap, and more Falcon than other ancillary characters.

Had the Avengers name been used, there would likely have been internet snarks asking where Hulk and Thor were.

Cor, the Lego Movie is good, we all really enjoyed it. The frantic pacing is a little exhausting though.

It's been put on quite a few times this week, but that's OK as I've been able to spot some more of the charming little details every time.

That was on telly a few months ago, my 3 year old boy really enjoyed it and kept asking to watch 'the space-ship film' again for the next few days. I remembered watching it with my dad when I was younger so it was a sweet moment.

I stopped expecting anything from De Niro ages ago, I mean he's still a great actor but not exactly picky about his roles these days.

Watched Snowpiercer last night. It's not half bad, though is clearly based on the writings of Ayn Rand to the point that it felt like it could be a development script for Bioshock set on a train.

Snowpiercer is one of the best shitty films i've seen. It's just weird, kind like a Terry Gilliam ripoff, and definitely not as good. But has way more charm than most Hollywood fare.

Last film i saw was Son of Saul. I know Holocaust movies aren't supposed to be uplifting, but this one made The Schindler's List look like Zoolander. It won the Oscar for foreign films, and altough i haven't seen any of its competition, i admire its audacity and style when it comes to camera work.

Apparently "they" are remaking Memento. Directed and written by Nolan, just like the original. 8)

You're right. He's credited on imdb for "original screenplay", even though no one is confirmed. It's still completely pointless.

Excellent.

To be followed by a new Groundhog Day remake, every year! With one new scene added each time to the process!

Relatedly, I really wish they'd filmed a version of Groundhog Day that was as dark as it was originally intended.

Eddie the Eagle - Loved it. Wonderful heartwarming stuff. Admittedly mostly fabricated but the underlying principles are lovely.

Bastille Day - A solid well put together actioner thriller buddy cop type thing. And Charlotte Le Bon is always nice to look at. Idris Elba is a brilliant screen presence too.

Jungle Book - Took a little while for me to escape uncanny valley feeling as the voices seemed so disconnected from the characters on screen. I feel it's a bad thing having well known celeb voices in these things, they're very distracting. Shere Khan was wonderfully scary and intimidating again a brilliant Idris Elba performance and Mowgli is brilliant. The film didn't quite feel the sum of its parts however.

I think you are technically correct*, but I think most people take 'fake aftershave/watches/handbags etc to mean 'counterfeit' rather than them be entirely different goods altogether.

Does that mean there's going to be another Dredd film, or a Dredd series, or something?

It's a shame that Dredd didn't make more money, but I believe it turned a modest profit in the end, and is generally very well regarded - so hopefully they'll make a sequel.

Yesterday I saw Florence Foster Jenkins which I found about as tolerable as the singing (look it up if you don't know what I'm on about).

Also I saw Whiskey Tango Foxtrot which was Tina Fey being Tina Fey very well and a fascinating look at the idea of war reporting as a drug.
