Thank you all for participating. It was good fun, except for the fact that Zaphod79 embarassed us all with his skills. Zardoz and Grim gave the league a nice touch with their rivalry, but the interest in that particular clash was a bit softened because they're both amateurs.

Full League schedule:
DoDonPachi Winner: Malc74
Wardner Winner: Itia
Pang Winner: Devilman
Bubble Bobble Winner: Zaphod79
Ms Pacman Winner: Zaphod79
Ghosts n' Goblins Winner: Zaphod79
EspRaDe Winner: Malc74
Rodland Winner: Grim...
Wonderboy in Monsterland Winner: Zaphod79
Mr.Do! Winner: Zaphod 79

Final League Table
1- zaphod79 90
2- RuySan 69
3- Malc74 60
4- Devilman 59
5- Mr. Karl 50
6- Zardoz 43
7- Grim... 40
8- Joans 30
9- Itia 15
10- Dimrill 11

Thanks Zaphod and *cough* Dimrill (voting for one game only doesn't give that game 10 votes, remember that) for your votes.

Waiting for more

Some very strange powerups as well - a needle and thread to repair your cloak ?

Its one of those games i quite like but have never finished - we played it a few years ago in the retroleague

http://forum.retrosurvival.co.uk/index. ... topic=2238

And you can see the big points difference for those that finished it and those that didnt :-)

Nice, the table of votings is starting to shapen up. It's going for a very old-school path. I need more David Grymm's.

i know. But you have to do promotion near the people who haven't voted yet.

I tried it, and i liked it. Seems like a mixture between Alex Kidd, Wonderboy in monsterland and Ghosts and Goblins

I've got little knowledge of arcade games or emulation. did the simpsons game have a score?
also, why does this have to be done by pm? whats with the secrecy? in case people are scared of liking miss pacman over the original showing thei love of dressing in womens clothing, and vice versa, I bet all the girls on here like to take their bows off, sluts.

I only played the arcade simpsons on the pc, and yes, it had a score.

The voting is to be done by pm for the following reasons:

- It will be a surprise, thus, its more fun
- The votes are devoid of any external pressure. For example, if someone sees that a game isn't getting any votes, he or she may think it's not reasonable or worthwhile to do it.
- I can post the votes or just the vote counting when its done.

It does , although its a strange scoring system in that most things gain you one point , so you play through 3 or 4 rounds and have a score of 62 or something similar :-)

DoDonPachi this week. I recommend every one who never played it to give it a shot. It's a very fun game and very accessible. It only starts to get really thought from the 3rd level.

The way to score more points is to destroy many enemies in a row. There's a gauge on the top left corner. Don't let it get empty!

9,99€ of pure gaming bliss. It only lacks a start button. I have to use one of the shoulder buttons for that.

I love EspRaDe, but i'm a bit crap at it. The scoring system is a bit obscure and i always get too distracted by the beautiful visuals.

It took me a while to get used to the scoring system. Would we be penalised for using the score multiplier meter(hold B at start screen)?

is there a way to show the multiplier meter? Well, i only guess it will enhance the experience, so no, there's no problem. And when EspRaDe week starts i have to shout that out loud.

Not by choice, dear me no. But I had a spare one lying around, and modding it with a USB connector is simplicity itself, so it's become my MAME controller by default.
I would definitely like to treat myself to a nice arcade stick one day though...

Okay, here's a score to start with - 4,921,600.

I was up as high as ten million a couple of years ago, but it's been ages since I last played it. In fact, I had to backup my DDP high score file and start a new one, because there's no way I'm going to get anywhere near the scores on the old one for the time being.
Much more practice needed, but blimey it's a great game.

No, it's a horrible score - I'm pretty hopeless at chaining, and I was barely onto the third stage. I think the furthest I've managed to get is the Stage 4 boss, but I think that's pretty much as far as my skills will take me.

That's a bit better - 9,139,680.

I'd forgotten how bastard-hard it gets on Stage 4.

On the subject of MAME, anyone know the best version to use, and if there is a central rom database anywhere? I'm not keen on downloading 20 odd gb of (perfectly legal) roms as most seem not to be named so i would know what they are anyway?

Apologies, i'm a complete MAME noob

i'm not at home, so i can't really vouch for what i use. But i can upload it, (but not today unfortunately). As far as i know, the latest versions of vanilla MAME don't support Highscore.dat (the file that saves highscores)

As for the roms, i have left one link in the first post. Have you tried that?

I'm useless at shooters and haven't played half the stuff in the list before but I'm just setting up Mame to have a stab at this... someone has to finish last, right?

Emucation is a nice little site for roms etc. Have to register to download but it's pretty painless.
