The science bods have recommended that cannabis goes up to B and ecstasy is reclassified from A to B, but that'll never happen, as it 'sends out the wrong message'.

Yeah they could do that and then continue banning anything which could conceivably cause mild upset or inconvenience to anyone else until all we can do is shuffle around silently staring at the ground by our feet. Or alternatively people could just fucking grow up a bit.

We've already banned smoking indoors, you aren't going to get fucking cancer because you got smoke in your face one time or because a car drove past you. Those are the things that Malc wanted banning.

You could probably make a link to asthma, from that list. The others? Not convinced. Especially not compared to the levels of atmospheric pollutants produced by industry.

There's a huge difference between finding something unpleasant and demanding that the government step in and make it illegal.

Coughing in someone's face probably is illegal already, as an assault and battery. Same as spitting at them.

Breathing in someones face then. Although, then someone's second hand cigarette smoke getting on me should be illegal. As should someones exhaust fumes (except for clearly marked areas, like Main roads and such)

Don't forget being outside on a sunny day without every inch of your body covered in protective balm.

With smoking, it's an bad smell which you can move away a few feet to avoid. With car exhaust it will pervade an entire area permanently, typically built up areas, at levels which people are accustomed to but are genuinely dangerous to health.

That's a non-negotiable fact, and it's why your car new engines have evolved through increasingly stricter Euro 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (etc) emissions regulations in an fairly successful attempt to reduce emissions.

However, air quality in a lot of places is still shocking and the number of vehicles that are too old or exempt or knackered and cough out 100s of times the pollutants a new one would get away with is a big problem.

Banning combustion engines altogether in town centres wouldn't be a bad idea at all.
