I haven't completed it yet, but I think I'm nearing the end now — I'm off to Still Island right now to do some stuff with my brain.

The game is just brilliantly polished, excellently immersive, and seriously fucking creepy. Miss Malabar has insisted on me only playing it when she's here, but has spent a good deal of time with her eyes closed, and I can't count the number of times it's made her jump.

The whole game has been locked into your character's head so far; you bob slightly as you move, you see your hands, and the camera follows the path you'd expect it to in person with the movements you make — and boy does the game like to throw you around, but it's so nice to feel that connection with the character rather than feeling like you're just a hovering camera.

I would definitely give this a solid A grade so far, and hopefully the end will keep my opinion high.

Finished it (F.E.A.R 2) last night. Bit of a weak ending, fun-wise, but interesting from a story perspective. It wasn't a particularly long game, I didn't think, though I was having so much fun the time shot by. Thoroughly excellent game, and a definite A grade for me.

I'm really surprised you didn't like the first game, because from the demo and your description above, they seem extremely similar.

It didn't draw me in in the first couple of hours — I couldn't get past the samey environments, and I didn't get on with the controls from what I remember. F.E.A.R 2 just seemed a lot more polished and a lot more immediately interesting.

i played the FEAR 2 demo and found it depressingly dull. Loved the first one but this one had lots of annoyances.

- The firefights and ballistics just don't feel right, so doesn't the movement, mouselook and everything. In a FPS that is everything, so the gameplay suffers.
- The lighting is technically very bad (i thought there was something wrong with the demo but there are youtube videos to prove it) and makes a lot of difference in a game like this. Everything looks a bit plasticky. Well, basically FEAR 1 was superior in aestethics, and its a 3 or 4 year old game.
- what's with the console resolutions? i don't want these black bars. Please fuck off.
- Cannot map the extra mouse buttons?? This trend has to stop. The same happens with Bethesda games.

It's because they put together a lazy, slapdash console port for most PC games these days, as they know hardly anyone is going to buy them.

You can tell by the known issues section of the release notes

if the world is a fair place, then yes, nobody did bought it. But many of my criticisms aren't really pc-centric. But how can you tell the difference when you're playing with a double clitoris simulator?

Could be. I certainly didn't notice any of the issues Ruysan brought up on the 360.

After yonks of delaying on the last case with Damon Gant and his scary orange suit, I've finally completed the first Phoenix Wright game! Yaaaay! :D

Felt embarrassed being forced to shout out "OBJECTION!" in the staff room, mind.

I finished Battlefield: Bad Company's campaign last night. Fun story, fantastic graphics, excellent gameplay and just the right amount of humourous banter from your ragtag bunch of gold-hunting misfits.

The only two gripes I have are that because of the vast open terrain, sometimes you could get ambushed easily and not know where you're being shot from; the other being that you have to hold the left stick in to run. They are only minor, however, and didn't spoil what was otherwise a brilliant game. Shits over most of CoD4's campaign from a distance. A.

Finished Devil May Cry 4 on human (aka easy). Never played one before and after a ropey hour or so I really, really enjoyed it. Without the bias of having played the earlier games it seems to me that Nero has far more interesting combat mechanics than Dante. His 'buster' (a beefed up grab basically) really allows you to control the situation. First game I've bought in a long while thanks to Goozex, but well worth the fiver it cost. Let down by the terrible 2nd half of the game though. There are 20 missions (each takes between 10-40 minutes) but the final half is basically the first half backwards with Dante. So you fight all the bosses twice. Then again at the end!

So overall Rank: C - but that still means a hearty, hearty recommendation especially at the fiver it costs.

I finally finished the main quest of oblivion yesterday after dipping in and out for about 8 months.

Overally a B - I didnt find it as immersive as fallout, hence the dipping in and out of it.

I don't think I'll bother with Conan and Viking as they're not really my thing.

You might want your Xbox back at some point, before it becomes my downstairs media centre. ;)

Bionic Commando: Finished this a while back now. Based on the reviews I was really hoping that this game would be as misunderstood as Mirror's Edge and so be super-awesome-acebest. It isn't. It is pretty good though, but it really doesn't give you the control you think it would. I had no problems with the 'linear' levels like a lot of idiots did, though the radiation death was badly implemented. Ace music too. Couldn't shake the desire to just play Rearmed and Mirror's Edge whilst playing though. Whacked it back on Goozex. Rank: B-

Splosion Man: Destined to be a really under-appreciated gem. Especially as the first few levels are so easy and a little bland that you could be easily mistaken for it being a really tedious game. Quickly ramps up into a wonderful 2D platformer. What Sonic games should
be really. It also has the best ending I've seen in a game for a very, very long time. Rank A.

Fallout 3: Finally finished the main quest after 75 hours spread over 12 months. Superb stuff. I suspect that like FFVII it may be the only Fallout/Elder Scrolls game that I ever properly play as after 75 hours I'm not sure what else I can get from the genre for quite a while. Saying that the DLC is tempting so.... Rank S - unless you've played an Elder Scrolls game before (in that case 'just' an A)

Dawn Of War II: This game was basically designed specifically for me. A small-scale RTS with strong Diablo-alike CRPG elements set in the 40K universe? Yes please! Good fun, even if four squads are probably one too many for me to micromanage effectively and once you understand the best way to use your troops you're never really pushed out of your comfort zone and asked to adapt those tactics in any way. Also: too many bastard hateful boss battles. Rank: B

Mirror's Edge: I'm not certain, but I think there's a decent chance I might actually hate this game. Which is mildly amazing considering how much I loved the idea of it, how much I loved the look of it and how much I loved the demo of it. What I wanted was a free-flowing free-running sim. What I got was a halting, stop-start first-person platformer / puzzle game which was made more artificially difficult by having you repeatedly shot at while you were trying to work out your path through the game's too-often confusing and bland environments (and whichever idiot decided to set the last level 75% in the dark needs to be stabbed in the patella with a pair of scissors). I quite liked the idea that enemies were a serious threat that needed to be avoided rather than defeated and so wasn't bothered by the clunky combat controls until the first time the game locked me in a room with a bunch of bastards and wouldn't let me out until I'd defeated them (ProTip: Easy difficulty is your friend). And the less said about the story (nonsensical) the voice-acting (diabolical) and the cut-scenes (in a videogame first, significantly uglier than the game itself) the better. Several people have said that the game's actually all about the time-trial levels but you know? I'm pretty much at the stage where I've no intention of finding that out. Rank: D

Have either you or Gaywood ever actually played Diablo? There is nothing in DoW2 that is even vaguely reminiscent of Diablo. It has a loot mechanic, and a levelling mechanic. That's it.

Hence "CRPG elements" not "CRPG".

Yeah, it's just that you had that fatal 'Diablo-alike' that Gaywood was using in all his references to the game. I don't know whether it comes from reviews, or what, but other than the fact that you level, and there's loot, I can't see how there's any resemblance to Diablo whatsoever. And Diablo was far from the first, best, or most famous to introduce the 'RPG-lite' style of gameplay.

I spend all my time both games frantically clicking on things. Mind you, I'm not very good at either game. Maybe that's why.

Finished Overlord II just. Bloody brilliant. Sod the naysayers.
Finished Godfather II earlier. Quite poor.

I may have my rumbly review balls on for both. Apathy may win, though.

I finished Ass Crud last night. It's bloody slow, but the story's quite interesting & getting a big chase across the rooftops is always fun. Buggered if I know what it was all about though.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The big battle as you make your way towards Richard The Lionheart was easily my favourite bit.

I finished Battlefield: Bad Company single player today. The cumbersome healing and respawning along with strange checkpointing was the only downside to a game with superb weaponry, explodorizing everything, engaging script and a very capable graphics engine which handled everything the hectic battles threw at it.

I may even go back and go it again on hard I had so much fun.

B+

I've finished Castlemania: Dawn of Sorrow. I don't really know how, though. I beat a not-too-tough boss, and it finished.
