There was an amusing short story by Neil Gaiman, which was a hybrid of the old Peter Cook & Dudley Moore two-men-in-a-pub routines and, well, Lovecraft. I believe you can find it in his Smoke & Mirrors collection.

I've read that book and I, for the life of me can't remember that story, I'll have to dig it out, cheers Pete.
