Mate gave me two hundred quid's worth of guitar. Tried to play it, couldn't strum/pick as I'd have liked.

So I grew the nails on my right hand, the better for doing so.

Now I can't type so well on keyboards, and typing on the Eee is impossible.

Gah.

I think destroying a small building with explosives is the only reasonable way to go from there.

A mate of mine used to use a set of fingerpicks for that, seemed to work alright. Something like those might work as a compromise.

I'm assuming you grew your fingers for classical-style stuff here, of course. Otherwise you should do fine with just a pick or short nails and a little more practice.

Unless you want to play folk or Spanish guitar, I'd suggest using a plectrum over long fingernails, any day.

I remember we tried to play ukeleles in music class... but the teacher didn't give us picks, so we had to strum with the edge of our thumb... so an enormous blister developed, and was then torn asunder by the struming motion (matron) leaving just the agonised skin underneath.

Also, you'll find that the letters on your keyboard keys will start to be scratched away.
