Actually, you should probably make it a trilogy. Everyone loves trilogies.

No sub-dom in this one, or at least not yet! Hrrm. *Strokes chin thoughtfully* *Strokes something else*

Astonishingly, despite my original plan which has now been dramatically aborted due to being (although awesome high concept) stitled and rambling, I have now switched from 1920's fantasy-sci-fi to utterly non-fantastical 1970's American crime thriller. I don't regret the waste in word count as I'm catching up fast and the dialogue is just flying off the page.

I'm especially amused that throwaway Basil-Exposition cop has basically stolen the novel, whilst being suspiciously similar to Rich Hall.

The novel involves Reno, Nevada, and will be linking in places wot I went to in my travelogue. It's also still, mercifully, weird.

Detective Rich Hall may run to a best-selling series of novels elevating me to wise-crackingly charming multi-millionaire New York dwelling Castle-style novelist, so no worries there, Squirt.

Don't throw away the old stuff, just change the names. I'm sure it'll all fit in somehow...

Flashbacks. Or have the main character dream about a sci-fi 1920s. Or have him write a novel about a sci-fi 1920s. Or possibly some sort of time-loop sub-plot.

10,000 words in now, 40,000 to go. Fleurgh. Still managed to resist anything supernatural or remotely fantastical. Yay me! It's all hard-boiled stuff in commonplace, down to earth, Reno.

Main character is young black kid amusingly saddled with a Germanic name that everyone calls him on. Main other character is a quite lovable mafia man who's coming out of the closet, with extreme and excellent violence!

It's nuts, obv. Will almost certainly lead to an old style Western shoot-out face off. No wizards need apply.

The only downer is that I daren't pick up XCom, or indeed any other game, for an entire month. Blub.

Time to bring on the bears!

Still possible - sleep is for the weak, after all.

I fear it ain't possible. Me like sleep, plus - work.

Next year I'll book a week off for it. :)

I've always rather liked the idea of copying my musical hero, Mahler, and owning a small cabin by some Alpine lake where I can retreat to over the summer and be creative.

9 days to decide if I'm going to have another shot at this or not. It's very tempting.

No,but you should be! I hear Amelia is going to want a sequel once she's finished with your novel.

The sequel is not behaving like it should.

Speaking of writing, if anyone wants to try Novlr Plus for six months, I have AN CODE.

Code:
3CJKAJZW

It's light years ahead of using Word, and I prefer it to Scrivener (but mainly because Scriv made me angry that I couldn't share a novel between a Mac and a PC). You can try it out at http://www.novlr.org

Bean wrote a story the other day for a 500 words competition. It’s about the day he ate a curry that was so hot that his shadow left his body, and the consequences of that happening.
