Yes. I let out an exasperated sigh when I heard that rubbish villainess idea. Getting quite bored with the Doc going up against heartless corporations or evil capitalists now. We get it. The Nu-Who trope of smarmy arrogant power-dressing women selling out humanity but having inexplicably lax personal security are also monumentally tedious.

How about the Doc against some evil anarchists, eh? Or a demented Dadist? Or Robbie Rotten? Or a hypnotic carpet that attempts to take over the world?

Just... something DIFFERENT.

Best film villainess ever is probably Milady from the Three Musketeers. I haven't seen a Who villainess come close to that boo-hiss evilness, yet.

So the scripts for the first 5 episodes of the new season have leaked online

If you want to stay spoiler free you'll probably want to avoid most places people could post stuff for the next 5 weeks or so :-(

Please don't share secrets of Doctor Who series 8 - BBC Worldwide "sorry" for five leaked scripts

Corporation's commercial arm appeals to fans not to pass on titles and plots after the full scripts for Peter Capaldi's opening stories are made public online

BBC Worldwide has apologised to Doctor Who fans after five scripts from the upcoming eighth series have been leaked online.

The Corporation’s commercial arm BBC Worldwide issued a statement to RadioTimes.com pleading for the public not to share the material after the first five scripts of the new series, which will begin broadcasting on August 23, surfaced online. They are the opening feature length episode Deep Breath by Steven Moffat as well as four others.

RadioTimes.com has seen the scripts and knows the titles but will not be making them public.

The statement read: “BBC Worldwide is currently investigating a security issue around Doctor Who Series 8 where unfinished material has inadvertently been made public. We deeply regret this and apologise to all the show's fans, the BBC and the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly making the series.

“We would like to make a plea to anyone who might have any of this material and spoilers associated with it not to share it with a wider audience so that everyone can enjoy the show as it should be seen when it launches. We know only too well that Doctor Who fans are the best in the world and we thank them for their help with this and their continued loyalty."

The scripts are understood to have been disseminated online after being sent to the BBC Worldwide’s newly opened Latin America headquarters in Miami for translation.

“The opening episode is being simulcast globally so of course translations have to be prepared in advance,” said a BBC source.

Deep Breath, the feature-length premiere episode of the eighth series, will air on BBC1 on Saturday August 23.

However fans are being given a chance to catch the first glimpse of Capaldi’s debut on the show at a Cardiff premiere on August 7, weeks before it arrives on TV. The lunchtime event will be held at St David’s Hall in the city and will kickstart the drama’s publicity world tour.

I've got no interest in Doctor Who personally, but just a quick heads-up :

A screener of the fist episode of Series 8 has just been leaked on-line.
Not sure how many sites it's on right now but no doubt it'll be pretty widely spread by this evening.

It's not perfect according to this comment but I thought some of you might be interested :

"I was skeptical but this is a real screener, unfortunately it has property of “some guy” and a counter on the screen, also jumps in and out of colour but totally watchable - well done!!"

Edit : Having just grabbed it to send to a mate over Skype, that comment above is a bit wrong. Picture & sound quality are fine but the whole thing seems to be in black & white ! The counter's not a problem because it's in the black border at the bottom of the screen but there are "property of" type messages at both the top & bottom of the picture (something I would find really annoying).

Regardless, the BBC aren't going to be pleased !

2nd Edit : Some screenshots here : http://s.gullipics.com/image/v/2/7/8uxi ... OGRPs.jpeg

I had a watch of the episode last night. It's all in black & white, uses temporary music and special effects (sometimes there's just text explaining what the special effect should be) and it's badly edited, but it's actually not a bad episode as it goes. I'm still convinced Capaldi could turn out to be an excellent Doctor.

I've given up on DW after the Christmas special pissed me of with its terribleness. And the 50th anniversary special. I'm just not prepared to waste any more time watching it in the hope that it'll improve, it won't with exactly the same creative team behind it, even with a new Doctor played by a competent 'proper' actor. Just… No. Sorry.

Yes, but:

1) angels are ridiculously over used
2) as are the two comedic alian side kicks
3) the new lass, her character is rubbish. I honestly don't care if she gets dalek'd
4) writing is poor, relies too much on past merits

Except it was not a reset ?

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Prior to the 50th Gallifrey was locked away behind a time lock and could not (generally) be accessed (it was only linked to in one other ep since the reboot) - afterwards it was in an alternative dimension and is something that we think the Doctor is going to go out to try and find ?

The 'Humans vs Zygons' was not neatly resolved with a 'everything back to normal' but with them having to come up with plans to work together (and we dont even know how that worked out since it just retreated to a side point)

Yes there was a lot of celebration / mutual backslapping but as an event for the 50th anniversary of a TV show I think that was what the fans wanted (it was what I wanted)

Of course if you want the silly episode you have the Peter Davison return of the 5 Doctors program instead (which for zero budget was also amazing)

Doctor Who 'extra' announced

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/ar ... tra-series

Quote:
BBC iPlayer launches exclusive Doctor Who Extra series

The BBC has today announced Doctor Who Extra - a brand new series, exclusively on BBC iPlayer. Doctor Who Extra is much more than a ‘making of’ show as we follow Peter Capaldi every step of the way throughout the creation of his first season as the Doctor. Over the course of 12 programmes we trace the highs and lows of Doctor Who’s most ambitious run of episodes yet, getting the inside take on series 8 from the people who made it.

The Doctor Who Extra team had unparalleled access to stars including Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Samuel Anderson (series regular Danny Pink) plus guests Frank Skinner, Keeley Hawes, Michelle Gomez, Ben Miller, Foxes and many more. Writers, such as Lead Writer and Executive Producer Steven Moffat, and directors also contribute as they spill the beans on the on and off-screen drama.

Casual viewers will enjoy the fun, fast pace and lighter side of Doctor Who Extra but there’s plenty for fans, too, as we take a quick dip into the archive for every edition, reflecting on how Doctor Who’s history is echoed in this current series.

Packed with emotion, great stories and a real sense of ‘access all areas’, Doctor Who Extra is essential viewing for everyone who’s ever watched Doctor Who and wondered what it’s a like to be a part of the team that brings this global phenomena to our screens.

Doctor Who Extra is produced by BBC Cymru Wales and executive produced by Steven Moffat, Brian Minchin and Jo Pearce. Each 10 minute Doctor Who Extra episode will be available after that week’s Doctor Who episode on BBC One.

No opinions yet? Overall I'm not that impressed but y'know I'm wrong about everything.

The good:

Capaldi has potential
Creepy enemies
Creepy Premise
Madame Vastra

The bad:

Still too silly and manic (but hey maybe that's the post regeneration thing)
Too much post regeneration madness
Still felt horribly superficial.
Didn't really get much feel for the Doctor.
Still seems very aimed at kids rather than being FAMILY viewing.

First half was too chaotic and not so good, second half was excellent. I thought the interaction between Clara and The Doctor was great and having someone in the role who can really act made a huge difference to how natural the relationship felt.

The character building about him being a different sort, a nastier doctor, and potentially one that has been seen before was quite good. Also, my who knowledge may be poor, but I am sure previous doctors have said the are 1000 yrs old, whereas he said he 2000 years old.

I think he will be a good Doctor. I too thought that the second half of the episode was far better than the first half.

A couple of things jarred, however: the stupid cartoon sound effects - when he bonked his head and something else, and some incidental music that sounded like it was from Tom & Jerry. At that point it was like watching CBBC.

It was refreshing that whilst Capaldi was top-notch, the supporting cast were just as good and had some brilliant scenes and speeches.
