Normally the trailer makes me think it could be exciting. This trailer makes me feel I've made the right decision to stop watching the show.

I think he should be less superhero and more guiding hand to get the best out of those around him.

He tends to have become far too grandstandy. But then I guess in many ways he was in the classic series but now I think they do more spectacular set pieces. The guitar bit is worrying..

I actually really liked the trailer. He looks more confident, after spending most of the last series being mostly confused until Clara saved the day.

:this: although it doesn't take a lot of strength for me. I lost interests about 3 series ago.

I said to myself that was it at the end of the last series. Thing is occasionally it does produce something that's pretty good. Mummy on the Orient Express and Flatline last season were really good but then we had atrocious stuff like Kill the Moon and Forest in the Night.

Y'know, I barely remember a thing about the last season. I'm sure I watched it, but none of it has stuck. Not a huge recommendation, that.

Flatline and Mummy on the Orient Express were great. I remember it all very well. Some of it I wish I didn't.

Now I've googled Mummy On... I do remember and it was, of course, excellent.

So there's a new prologue for the series. Doctor is a bit wacky again but then again Tom Baker was often quite wacky...

Can't embed as it's on google play for £0 which is silly.

Caught it late on Saturday. I am reserving judgement until:

I. I have seen part two
II. I have watched part one whilst sober.

Me too.

I thought Gomez was better than she had been in the previous series. Her obvious disdain for Clara was fabulous.

Rewatched it tonight. I really enjoyed it, especially the look on Missy's face during the big reveal.

I am starting to wonder if between the last season and now she teleported to Boston in the 1980s and married a local psychiatrist.

Missy stole the show. It should all be about her. Like a malevolent Mary Poppin2.

I thought it (Part II) was an enjoyable enough romp, but three things did really jar

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Ha! It was the plan to regenerate the Daleks all along so that all the Daleks were regenerated so that they killed each other! Bullshit.
The quite deliberate 'Clara in a Dalek' tease back to her first appearance. Bullshit, unless this is the start of an arc.
Sonic. Fucking. Sunglasses. Which I'd seen coming after Michael Legge tweeted about it but it still fucked me off. Bullshit.

The last point in particular. But there was so much wrong with the episode. The whole setup of "I knew you'd know that I'd do the thing that you think I would think you would know I would do." was annoying.

"Am I a good man?" No Davros, you went out to murder and harm everyone else in the galaxy.

Missy and her stupid voices are incredibly annoying.

Clara fit in the dalek rather well didn't she?

Also the episode almost completely ignored potential points raised in the first episode. Would have been much more interesting perhaps if the Doctor had created the daleks by abandoning Davros... but maybe not.

The whole episode just felt like a load of running around being silly.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit poor. It didn't make much sense, the ending was nonsense, but I think it was used as a way introduce missy as a different character and increase the potential of that role. If that is the case I will let it off, if not I think it was very poor.

New spinoff series, 'Class', to be set in Coal Hill School and will be on BBC3.

More importantly, the entire thing is being written by Patrick Ness, who is one of the best writers in the world.

So that's good.

Proper Doctor Who. AT LAST! I do hope it doesn't let us down. Thus far I'd say we've had two 8s and a 4 in this series. Not a bad start considering last series started with a 5 went to a 6 then dropped to 2.

What is the point of a cliff hanger if at the end of the credits they have a "and next week..." section?

I always have to remember to switch over or stop the recording when the credits start to avoid that. Not as bad as the first cliff-hanger in the Ecclestone series where the trailer was placed before the credits.

Loved that. Creepy, exciting, and with some very funny lines.

I did a proper LOL to his aside of, "They can only touch metal... oh I didn't realise I had noticed that!"

I didn't watch the trailer for next week...

Just watched it. Very good. Classic closed off Who peril drama. It felt a bit like the lines were written for Matt Smith's delivery style.

One thing that I might have missed the explanation for: why could he broadcast from inside the Faraday cage?

http://nerdist.com/new-doctor-who-audio ... ar-doctor/

Quote:
For years, since Doctor Who‘s return in 2005, we’ve been wondering about just how terrible The Last Great Time War actually was. We know it wiped out both the Daleks and the Time Lords, but the Doctor would say precious little else besides that. We caught a glimpse of the last days of it in “The End of Time“, and found out things weren’t exactly what we thought they were (in a great way!) with the 50th Anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor“, in which we found out the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) tried to be a conscientious objector but was forced to fully join the fray by becoming the War Doctor (John Hurt). We expected that’s all we’d see of the Time War and that version of the Doctor, but Big Finish Productions have announced a new series of War Doctor audio adventures to continue to saga.

The company, which has been making full cast audio dramas of Doctor Who characters since the late ’90s, has recently obtained the rights to things created in the new series. Previously, they have only been able to make dramas about past adventures starring the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Doctors, with Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor being added a few years ago. They’ve already announced a new series of UNIT adventures starring Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) and Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) and one called The Diary of River Song featuring Alex Kingston.

This four-release set of War Doctor adventures will debut in December and will take us inside his eons-long battle to defeat the Daleks and still be a good man, which eventually led to him using The Moment. To whet your appetite, Big Finish is also releasing a prequel series in November featuring the Eighth Doctor’s time during the Time War.

For people interested in more War Doctor and more Time War, this seems like the best possible way for this to happen, since a whole TV series about it seems unlikely, and was never really seemed plausible in the first place. You can find out more information at Big Finish’s website.

The Doctor is in the box, it makes sense that the Tardis didn't like being there as at that time there are two Doctors in the same timeline, which is always dodgy, possible paradox fodder there

I also do this. Infuriatingly, The Walking Dead once put a "next time on TWD" bit over the credits (they put a little box up) so I switched it off, then they put another bit that referred to the current episode after the credits.

Fucktards.

That was fucking tense for a 'family show'..

in particular:

the bit with the deaf crewmember and the dragging axe... like something out of a proper horror flick.

also, yeah,

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
the doctor was in the box, but it was quite good at not letting you know for sure until the very last moment.

the only thing that I didn't like was:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
the 'oh yeah, the ghosts, well, we've got five minutes, we'll lock them in a box and let UNIT sort them out' cop-out.

But even so, I thought it was great.
