Anyone got any suggestions of any nice restaurants in Leeds? Preferably not too expensive, but if it's really nice I'll happilly spend a bit more.

Anthony's is meant to be excellent.

Didn't dine out much in Leeds when I lived there owing to really living in Batley combined with poverty. However, I recall the sushi/Japanese tapas at Japanic being very nice, and it was a pleasant bar atmos too. Plus they gave us free food on their birthday!

Anthony's is probably a bit more than I was hoping to spend, but it does looks fantastic.

I might just dip into my overdraught, but if anyone has something maybe around £50 including wine + tip that's be great.

Last time I took the (cough) gf there, 3 courses + tip was £50. That was one fat meal though.

Red Chilli is really fucking nice. Thai Cottage is cheaper, but more authentic. Both fantastic. I tend to eat a lot of burgers nowadays (I only really tend to eat meat when eating out nowadays), so GBK all the way for me!

Not so much with the pretty girls though. You could do a lot worse than Sous le Nez, near the station, for the dates.

slug and lettuce is a chain pub affair isnt it, so expect the quality of a wetherspoons pretty much. who the fuck doesnt like pizza? although she may be lactose intolerant.

Consider tapas.
Small portions, cheap, intimate.

I dont really like tapas and wouldnt choose to eat it often personally, but for a first date its potentially awesome.

Not many great tapas places in Leeds. Viva Cuba is pretty good, La Tasca a bit mediocre. There's a nice place in Kirkstall, though its name escapes me and it's not the most salubrious of suburbs.

I went out with a girl from Leeds once.

During my time in leeds (4 years ago now) I was generally to skint/studenty to go to proper restaurants vvery often. Thankfully the ladies I dated were similarly skintos.

However I can definitely say do not go to the slug and lettuce.

EDIT: I take it you are not living in leeds? If Viva Cuba is where Japanic was, then it is near the Scream Pub that is a barge on a traffic island, that could make a nice novelty drink afterwards - if she's a bit grebby/indie. At thats coming from a guy who normally hates scream pubs.

Bar 88 on The Headrow was quite nice. A choice of Asian cuisines, but pretty good sushi in my opinion.

That reminds me of the tale I was once told... a bloke on Queen Street in Cardiff was being kicked in by a girl who was screaming 'you DO NOT take me to fucking KFC for Valentine's!!'

(To be fair, it was her idea, and we'd been to a proper restaurant on Friday night. Erm, but she'd paid for it. I'm not very good at this, am I?)

I like Ha Ha in Leeds, but it might be a bit too "casual" for your needs.

I like pizza, but I find Pizza Express to be the most pompous, up-it's-own-arse place currently on the high street. It amazes me that people will go there and not think "get over yourselves, it's a fucking pizza!".

Their pizza's aren't even that good.

I'd rather go with mimi to Nandos.

Last time I went to Nando's I had some steak thing, which turned out to be a steak sandwich, and it was shit. The rice is good, though.

It's not as bad as Pizza Hut. But why is it always full of screaming babies? Seriously, who takes their baby to a moderately civilised high street chain restaurant of an evening? Especially one which makes a point of having the entire place lined authentic italian ceramic tiles for maximum nasty shriek reverberation.

It's far worse - at least Pizza Hut knows it's place. Although now it's rebranded itself to Pasta Hut I may have to rethink that.

There's nothing wrong with taking babies to a restaurant, Mrs Grim... and I take the Grimlet all the time. But if he cries, one of us takes him the fuck outside until he is happy again.

It really hasn't, although it does appear to be a massive success as a publicity stunt.

The Pizza Express Tortellini is bloody good.

The one down the road from my office has changed its sign.

They've changed a few hundred branches apparently, but only temporarily. The menu changes though (i.e. a lot more pasta options) are permanent.

First Born's at the age (21 months or so) where he's now a massive pain to take to a restaurant not because he'll start screaming but cos he's up and about and won't sit fucking still for five minutes. It means he's awesome fun at home, but makes him an impossible dining companion. Last time we went out for a meal with him and a bunch of family people we basically hired a room at the back of the pub, so he could whizz around. He spent an hour sat in the fireplace playing with brass things.

Yes, 30 of them will be, very briefly.

It's a slightly more advanced version of them pulling the same stunt in the US in April.

Ah well. I actually think this is a clever move by them. For a start, here we all are talking about it.

I honestly don't understand parents who take their kids out to eat and then just ignore tham while they run all over the restaurant.
I may understand more in a year or so, of course.

We're not in Pizza Hut, though.

Because toddlers will sit still and eat for maybe 30 minutes in total at the very most. You're still eating for another 30-60 minutes over that, so you take turns in playing with him on the floor in between courses. If you don't, you don't get to go out unless you can get a babysitter. Which is difficult when your babysitters are having dinner with you.

We wouldn't have done that in a busy restaurant, though. Or anywhere that wasn't a private room, come to that.
