*thinks* This totally requires a sub-thread, what I'm gonna say so perhaps a mod could lift it out, if it gets derailing.

How about a second, other, further, non-replacement, additional, following, later boozy night out, somewhere more central, away from London? Say, in the Midlands?

Chester is very nice. It depends if people are pub or club goers and whether people want to go to a live band or something. Lots of options to choose-maybe people can say a month and then have a look what's on in that month that maybe would appeal to the majority?

Other meets have certainly been organised.

Pick a place and date. Post a thread.

Don't be arsey. The same people reading that would read this. I know your Beardy Beer Clubs are a special thing, which is why I'm just re-floating the idea of another one later, somewhere else, to see if there's interest there. Before starting a 'competing' "Come for a drink with us!" thread.

I was thinking Bristol, or I dunno, Birmingham. Since it's the easiest place for everyone to get to, travel-wise, and since that's the main issue really.

I think giving people enough notice is important too, and if there are a couple of BEEXers there that have sofas/floors people can crash on then so much the better. :)

Birmingham is a bit scary, I got mugged once there.

Many a night spent at the Carling Academy though, back stage :) good fun, although we didn't see much of the stage.

Little BEEX meets may be okay aswell. I mean Me, Tanya, Ian (I think) Gaz, Devilman (maybe) will probably meet up some time.

I wasn't being in any way arsey.

Although no, it wouldn't be the same people. Anyone who can't get to London is unlikely to be reading this thread.

There are people that don't read every thread? I must reallocate my funny in order to maximise efficiency of exposure.

I think you say this with the knowledge of what the Beardy Beer Club is, when there are some who would not know it is its own special thing. I can point to a few folk who have already lamented the distance in this very thread, sir. And as Craster agrees (I think - sorry if I'm misinterpreting), most people read most threads.

He wasn't being arsey - starting a thread would be a good idea to avoid confusion (and because it's free), and, more importantly, the BBC isn't 'special' in any way, it's a joke Craster and I made up because we both have beards. All are, and always have been, welcome. It's not a club, as we have taken pains to point out again and again and again.
Anyway, the last Beex meet was in Nottingham.

The 'beardy beer club' is only 'it's own special thing' because it gives those more hirsutely gifted of us the opportunity to mock everyone else's attempts at facial hair.

You're a pain in the arse aren't you? hehe. Sure you can, I shall have words with the people involved, you can always pop and have a night out with me and Gaz anyway (I'm sure he said you've met or something, he did tell me-but I think I half-listened, no offence to you, Gaz just talks very softly and makes me tired)

I think Bristol's an excellent choice for next time. We've had Nottingham (easy for northern and midland types to get to), London (Londoners and south/southeasterners), so a south west meet for the sheepshaggers and country bumpkins sounds about right.

Plus Mr Dave said we could all stay at his (sub please check).

Bristol works for me. I've got oodles of holiday time and nothing to do it with, so a few lovely days in Bristol would be an ace treat, personally. Myoptika or Craster or someone, can I ask you to please split out these posts then into a new topic? I didn't want to start one 'til I was sure it was welcome.

Sounds like a threat :)

I'll have to see if I can clear my spare bed off so that someone could crash on that if they wanted - currently it has several consoles, 25+ joypads, a laptop and numerous cables but I'm sure that can be shifted somewhere. That and my sofa is pretty comfy too.

Similarly, I live quite close-by to Gaz & Chin, have a spare room and lots of floor space. There are also at least 13 pubs within easy walking distance of where I live, with absolutely no exaggeration inended

Anyhoo, yus. How about some suggestions of good places, and then a poll later?

Bristol
Oxford

I would also be interested in awkwardly tagging along any unofficial mini-BETEO midlands meets.
If that sort of thing is ok. :)

As for the next proper meet - anywhere is probably ok, as long as it's not too far away, so Oxford or Bristol (or Birmingham) would be fine.

I further the cause of Brizzle. Ideally, it would be Caerphilly, and we'd just go to the pub across the road and then the Chinese next door for chips, but I can't have everything.

Why not have the meet in Bath? Do a tour of famous Future locations? Go to the actual WH Smiths where Marcus (Hoover - Ed) handed out 100 quid worth of cash for some reason I can't remember. Go to the theatre where Dave Golder interviewed Sylvester McCoy for YS. Do the Trashman walk. Visit the house of Re(that's enough - Ed).

Shush, none of us have his address or anything, cof.

It would be really quite awesome though. Just all turn up one day, two dozen of us, all with name-tags on, knock politely on the door, "..Yes?" "HI STU!"

Note to WoS: It WOULD be funny. C'mon.

Actually we should just turn up with a bunch of flowers and a chosen delegate should just fling themselves at him as he opens the door, hug him, burst into tears and say "we love you man".

That would be one meet I would attend.*

Awww. I like him.

I vote for Comical Gnomes to be the delegate. I think all of that furious anger is really a guise for a very tender, and loving heart. I might have to turn this into a thread poll.

I think this is the best idea we've ever had. I commend it to the forum and propose that someone organise this meet forthwith. If we all pay 2 quid each, we could get a really nice bunch of flowers.

It means I can get the last train home, and go to Pieminister, the greatest pie place that I know of.

Nah, I said I couldn't let people stay.

However, with current circumstances, whether I'd even be in Bristol when this happens is currently debatable. But I fI am, there would be more of a chance that I could accomodate a few people. We'll see.

Reading Mr. Dave's post I've just somewhat randomly realized that I was thinking of Brighton. Oh well - so, what's in Bristol then that's worth doing and seeing and stuff, should someone maybe go down there for a couple of days on holiday?
