We need a new 20-min episode comedy show now we've finished S4 of B99. Any suggestions? Preferably on Netflix or Prime Video.

The Good Place?

Sal has already watched it

I imagine most people have seen a lot of this already, but Amazon added all nine seasons of Scrubs today. I might have to give it a watch myself as I've only seen a handful of episodes really.

Scrubs is great - Dr Cox is a legend.

Do yourself a favour and stop at the end of season 7, though.

Aw, I love Scrubs. Dr Cox and the janitor are both great characters. All the characters are great characters. It’s hilarious and yet, occasionally, will make you very reflective and can be a bit of a tearjerker.

Dr Cox is a prick at the start but I love his journey.

Amazon has bought the rights from the Tolkien estate to do a TV show, rumor is they paid $250 million for the rights and are sinking another $750 million into 6 seasons of the show.

They are going to do a Conan the Barbarian show as well.

By all accounts, they are not seeing the success with internally scripted shows as Netflix has, so are buying in established stories to try and get their subscription figures up.

That's a fairly hefty investment. More than just a (NO! - Ed) Tolkien gesture.

I'm sure that anyone spending a billion pounds must know what they're doing but I can't help wondering if there's really going to be the appetite for a more twee version of Game Of Thrones.

I was thinking that the main stories have been done in the films, so you have to wonder what the show will be about over a possible 6 seasons.

The article I read said the Amazon has sunk $4.5 billion into their TV business already and were frustrated that they haven't see the results they expected for the investment.

A billion is peanuts to Amazon so no guarantee they won't make a mess of this, still, with over $100 million a season budget, you have to hope it will be good.

Looks like there will be a lot of new shows with big budgets coming out in the next few years, Amazon, HBO, Dinsey, Netflix, and Apple are all competing for subscribers and are going to use their deep pockets to make shows to get them.

I can assure you, no matter how much money a company has or plans to have, if a billion dollar investment doesn't pan out the bosses don't just shrug and go "oh well!"

Anyone has seen "Electric Dreams"?

First episode was ok, but the themes that were explored were much more deeply done in other PKD novels.

The 2nd and 3rd were much more to my liking. Very eager to watch the rest, even though the intro looks like something out of a geocities webpage from the 90s.

Yeah, it's hit and miss, like most anthologies, but certainly worth a watch. They got some great actors in there.

I think Bryan Cranston is a PKD fan, since he said the reason he was in the Total Recall remake wad because it was going to be a more faithful adaptation (didn't work out that way though).

That's funny because for me the original Total Recall feels the most authentic PKD adaptation, even more than a "A Scanner Darkly" which was almost a copy of the book.

Seen fourth and fifth episodes.

The 4th (the one with steve buscemi) was by far the weakest. Very confusing tone and not very focused. But it was worth it for the sexy synth lady.

5th (the one with Anna Paquin) was pretty cool, although these themes are probably too cliched now in a post Black Mirror world, but PKD invented them, so it's ok.

I think reading these comments must have raised my expectations a bit too high. It was alright until after they did the main mission and then there were some stupid filler episodes and now I can't see us bothering with any more.

The last episode of The Big Bang Theory has Beth Behrs (Caroline from 2 Broke Girls) and the awesome Walton Goggins in it.

It’s another utterly crap episode.

It just reminds me that when Friends had cameos from stars and they did so much with them. TBBT is fucking garbage.

Done with the first season of Electric Dreams. It's very recommended for anyone who wants more Black Mirror. There are a couple of weak episodes (and the first with Robb Stark is one of the weakest), but overall it's pretty good.

Conversely I gave up on Electric Dreams after, I think, the Steve Buscemi episode because it was generally awful. None of the episodes had core ideas that were as strong as anything Black Mirror ever did and each of them just fizzled out into horeshit pseudo-endings. Really disappointing.

The Steve Buscemi episode might be the weakest, with the only positive point being the sexy android lady. I found the later episodes to be better overall, even though Ep3(The Commuter) is one of my favourites.

All of them up to and including Buscemi annoyed me in the same way so it had burned through any goodwill I had towards it by that point; I wasn't going to give it any more of my time.

That trailer works on me.

Anyway, in other US TV news, Santa Clarita Diet season 2 is out now.

We watched the first episode of Krypton last night which was OK if nothing special, and the first episode of The Crossing which shows far more promise.

I'm absolutely loving this, unlike Jessica Jones Season 2 which I'm finding quite heavy going.

Santa Clarita Diet Season 2 feels like a direct continuation of Season 1, which is exactly what I wanted.

Season 2 of Santa Clarita Diet finished this evening, it's every bit as good as Season 1 and arguably a shade better in some regards.

Didn't actually realise I was watching the last episode of the season and was rather miffed to realise there won't be any more until Season 3.

(Which I totally assume they're going to make.)
