An aggregation of recommendations so far:

Legion - Will seek it out
Ozark - Features wife-coveted Bateman
NuTrek - Didn't like OldTrek
Making a Murderer - Watched, got angry
Confession Tapes - Will seek it out
Narcos - Loved it, even better without Pablo
House of Cards - Enjoyed Francis's ascent to power, got bored after that and glad it's been cancelled.
Black Sails - Will seek it out
Firefly - Have watched it once, should rewatch
Battlestar Galactica - Gave up halfway through. Too many annoying lead characters (Starbuck, Gaius)
West Wing - Loved it, what I wouldn't give to live in that alternate reality right now.
The Wire - Season 2 is still my favourite series of anything, ever.
Californication - Is it just about David Duchovny shagging? Because I don't really want to watch lots of episodes of that.
Breaking Bad - Loved it. Best pilot of any show, ever.
Buffy - I was planning on watching this but it's no longer on the streaming services (as far as I can tell).
Riverdale - Is this basically Mali + Glee all over again?

Man, if Making A Murderer got you feeling angry, don’t seek out The Confession Tapes.

Discovery is making some hardened Trekkies gnash their teeth, if that helps? I am a fan of old Trek but this is tonally quite different and I'm loving it.

But do try American Vandal which is an excellent and compelling send up of Making a Murderer et al.

Thanks for everyone's recommendations, going to do American Vandal and Black Sails next, followed by NuTrek. And also S2 of Mr Robot, though tonally there's something that doesn't jive with me about that show. Halt and Catch Fire is on the list, but I think that's a Mrs Fop show.

I'm gearing up for a Sopranos rewatch, I think the time is right.

And Utopia was superb. From its aesthetic to the lumbering threat of Neil Maskell.

While we're at it, any folk who missed Shadow Line six years ago should watch Shadow Line now because it's the best.

Yeah Utopia, Shadow Line and obv The Sopranos are all top tier.

Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes are fantastic too.

The Suspicions of Mr Whicher and Red Riding are also excellent.

Wait none of these are US.

Mr Robot is always great but next week should be special. It’s commercial free and there’s a rumour that it’s a single camera one-shot throughout the episode. Should be interesting &/or exciting. Probably both.

It was. I think it was hilarious, brave, and very self-aware. It was never going to make a second season, so I'm glad they did what they could with it.
It wasn't perfect, and lost its way a little bit in the middle, but pulled it all back with blood-drenched panache.

Ah...it's Julian.

The second episode of Young Sheldon is [“in shops”]. I’m still surprised how good it is because it should be a car crash.

Stranger Things 2 was excellent. Properly enjoyed it, with only ep7 feeling unnecessary and rushed.

Nah, ep7 was

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Clearly only there to give 11 an epiphany so she goes home to save her friends. For that to have been anything other than a plot hammer it would have needed to be about three episodes instead of one.

Overall brilliant though.

True. Slightly jarring compared to the tone of the rest, and, as Cras said, added little other than PLOTHAMMER.

My favourite thing about Stranger Things 2 was the early scripts described the doctor as "a Paul Reiser type" and then they actually cast Paul Reiser.

And full of characters who resorted to clichéd tropes instead of being well-written, which is a hole that Things managed to deftly avoid until that point.

Well cliched tropes to the extent that character types who've appeared in one or two films can be cliched tropes, yes. But I get what you mean.

The last episode made up for Ep 7 and the dodgy Dema-dog CGI.

This is excellent news. Will be interesting to see if Simon pegg goes for the role of wee Hughie. I didn't enjoy the comics as much as preacher, seemed to lack soul, but this has the potential to be much bigger because of the superhero subject matter.

That episode of Mr. Robot was incredible. It was fun just trying to find where the hidden cuts are in the “one long continuous camera shot”. Mind bogglingly ambitious for a TV programme.

The Deuce is excellent.

(If you don't know: it's David "The Wire / Treme" Simon's new shoe. Set in midtown NYC in the early 79s, following the fortunes of a number of prostitutes, pimps, bartenders, Mob bosses, and other associated low-lifes as the US legalised pornography.)

Like most of Simon's work, what it's really about is power: who has power over whom, how are they using it and to what end, and what will happen when the power shifts? As usual with Simon there's a hell of a lot of characters and not a great deal of exposition, so you need to watch fairly closely and be prepared that sometimes a character is going to do something that won't make sense for a while.

There's a hell of a lot of nudity but most of it is deeply unerotic. You know how GoT claimed it used nudity for plot development and never to titillate, and how that was bullshit? It's actually true of The Deuce.

Oh, it's much faster paced than Treme, thankfully. Much closer to The Wire in that respect. Some returning cast from The Wire too, including D'Angelo Barskdale (who has flipped sides and is a world-weary beatcop) and the elder Sobotka brother (who is a surly union man... again).

Also worthy of praise: the set and costume design. It's absolutely amazing.

I did like the first 2 episodes of The Deuce, but my wife thought it was way too unpleasant to keep watching. And I'd rather play games than to watch shows by myself so that show is indefinitely on hold.

I wonder if Gaywood's comment was tongue in cheek?

Or maybe laced with sarcasm.
