Yes.

Timothy Elephants made me laugh a lot.

He's superb in it. Absolutely brilliant. I love it. Abd Drew Barrymore is laugh out loud funny.

Everyone should watch this.

I liked it, but I think Barrymore is the worst thing about it.

Hooooo, boy.

I'm now on season 4 of Vikings. I'm enjoying this season even less.

So far we've seen:-
1) lots of decisions being made that make no sense whatsoever including someone ordering a massive slaughter of his own people
2) An incredibly dull bit where one of the characters lived in the woods for a bit
3) Someone learning to speak another language in what seemed like a weekend
4) Some nice scenery
5) Lots of filler shots of said scenery
6) A Chinese slave who is no longer a slave but is able to prepare mind altering drugs from plants and things which I imagine wouldn’t be indigenous to where the Vikings live
7) Someone from Hollyoaks scoring on the Craster scale

So yeah, Vikings. Watch it if you like that sort of thing.

I've only watched the first episode of Legion thus far but thoroughly enjoyed it and am glad to hear it gets no more sensible as it goes on. Who'd have thought Fox would make a decent use of the Xmen license and it would be a TV show based on an incredibly obscure character? Bonkers.

Related: there was a relatively short running Legion comics series a wee while back and it was brilliant if anyone's looking for something to pick up. It was also very funny/weird and the way his multiple powers were represented was very well done.

The Expanse S2 is nailbiting. It's so tense, and the gap between episodes so painful, that I may have to read the books to reduce waiting time.

Really? I thought it had lost something in this series. And it's not very closely following the books by the way (although that's not a bad thing).

I just read the plot summary of that and it put me in mind of the excellent comics series The Fuse:

It lost the approach of spending most of a series doing very little, certainly.

Can't believe it's only on ep5, that felt like a series finale.

It's hammy, and cheesy, and seems a bit too forced, but I'm finding the Lethal Weapon TV series quite enjoyable even if I'm not quite sure why.

It seems to be more that the sum of its parts, turning out to be kind-of fun and easy watching.

Season 4 of Vikings is spilt into two parts for reasons known only to the producers of the program. I’m half way through the season and I’m still not really enjoying it.

The main character went away for 12 years in last nights episodes. This was shown in four scenes. The first scene saw his lose a battle. The second scene saw his wife and son talk about how they hadn’t seen him in 12 years. The next scene saw all his sons talk about how they hadn’t seen him for 12 years and the final scene, saw him come back!

Rubbish. They could have dragged that out for ages but instead, had him vanish then come back in the same episode… Not looking any older than when he left.

I have watched the first four episodes of Santa Clarita Diet and it's excellent.

I'm not really familiar with Timothy Olyphant but he's fantastic in it, in fact the whole cast is splendid and I don't think there's anything wrong with Drew Barrymore in it either, as was previously suggested in this thread by someone who is very much mistaken.

At under 30 minutes the episodes are tightly edited and agreeably compact, which is a nice change after the endless flabbiness of NICK CAGE, where I often felt 10-20 minutes of an episode could easily be excised, or indeed, for one episode at the arse end of the season where LITERALLY NOTHING HAPPENED, an entire episode could have been lost and the series would have been better for it.

Anyway, I am enjoying Santa Clarita Diet, it's making me both laugh and squirm in equal measures (the gore is really quite squishy and crunchy), and bonus points for use of the word 'cuntstick'.

These kind of comments make me wonder if I'm somehow missing a whole load of stuff because it seems pretty coherent to me (relative to the fact it's about someone with uncharted psychoactive powers and a history of mental illness of course).

Finished Santa Clarita diet last night and the end of the final episode was a straight set-up for Season Two so hopefully there'll be more of it.

Really enjoyed it from start to finish, and the 28(ish) minute running time for each episode was a nice snappy change of pace from other series.

Many genuine LOL moments in there, like properly laughing at the telly.

If you have Netflix then watch this.

Ok, so, I forgot I hadn't watched the latest episode yet and, sitting here halfway through it, I take the above post back entirely; it's bonkers. I'm still loving it though, it looks incredible and is so charming confident in it's utter batshittery. And Jemaine Clement is fucking brilliant.

I bloody love it. Definitely my favourite episodic thing at the moment.

David has a great line in confused faces.

I think I know most of what's going on, but it's like David Lynch did an X Men movie that was ten hours long and I love it.

Major props to the set designers and those who dealt with the aesthetics of the whole piece. It looks beautiful, and even the bits that look weird (the first fight in the latest episode) do so for a reason and are stylised accordingly.

Roll on Thursday!

Post subject:  Re: General Purpose US TV thread

I finished watching season 4 of Viking last night. There's going to be a season 5 so a lot of people got away from the fighting to live another day so not all the main characters died... as you would have expected them to.

One main character however was shot by an arrow. She was separated from the rest of her team so there was a specific shot on her lying in the mud with an arrow sticking out of her heart accompanied by some sad music. The next scene cut to some other characters and the scene after that went back to the girl with the arrows in her chest but she was now sitting up at the table with all her other colleagues having a meal and discussing something else. Totally fine! Annoying.

Also, they made the English look totally inept at raising and running an army. I know that the series is focused on the Vikings and they're the main characters but does the English army really need to be made up of portly, old looking men?

Oh yeah... one more thing. The new ruler of the Kattegat (the town the Vikings come from) has decided that they need to build defenses to protect the town. All well and good except they built them while a great number of bad guys were already in the town, essentially locking them in to do what they want.

So let's all look forward to season 5 then!

Latest episode of Legion.

Woah.

Started off slowly and quite straightforward, but boy did it move things on and be creepy as fuck in the second half, and ended brilliantly.

It's got such a sneaky way of drawing you in during the episode and just as it has you in its grasp, the bloody episode ends!

Plus bonus asses.

Anyway, SOUTHLAND....

Best cop show since The Wire (my fave US TV show of all time).

Dynamic, gritty, very well acted & brilliantly directed, plus you don't need to watch several episodes to get hooked (the one downside of The Wire).

I hadn't heard of this show until about a month ago.
Since then, I've watched the first 3 seasons and have just started on season 4.

First season was solid & each new season is slightly better than the last IMO.

Great show basically.....

Have just watched through Southland. It is very good indeed.
