The wife and I started watching Vikings last week and got to the end of season one last night.

She likes it but I don't think I'm a fan. None of them are very likeable as characters and the fact that they make the English look stupid at every step of the way is really annoying me. Also, that snake pit that the king had? What was all that about?!?

I've no doubt that I shall carry on watching it but I'll be darned if I'm going to pretend to enjoy it.

A lot of it is loosely based on legend, including the snake pit.

Snake pit? That's the current season (4)! You've a bit of rewinding to do.

Nope. Definitely the first season. It's only briefly been in one episode though so far.

Of possible interest only to me but in preparation for the new series of Samurai Jack, the Adult Swim website is streaming all the previous episodes back to back with no ads.

We've started rewatching it from the beginning. It starts better than I thought it might have, although it's extremely noticeable that all of the characters are only half as awful as they are in the current episodes. First truly great ep is Hundred Dollar Baby, for my money.

I watched the first series and then got deeply suspicious of Danny DeVito joining and stopped watching. I should start again at some point.

For whatever reason, I just don't find It's Always Sunny funny. Not sure why, it feels like the kind of thing I should like. Suspect there may be a Seinfeld-like tipping point where everything slots into place and it all makes sense. But I've not got there yet (have watched half a dozen episodes).

YES. I felt the exact same way.

I didn't know that, but I'm not surprised. It was very jarring have him appear in it for the very reasons they were worried about it.

But it worked out just fine, against all odds.

That's what happened to me. I didn't like the first few episodes because I found the humour to be too blunt. But after you get to know the characters you suddenly start to feel everything they do is hilarious like:

-What's the next disgusting or dumb thing charlie will do?
-What's the next horrible sociopathic thing Dennis will do?
-How they will make fun of Sweet Dee next?
-What's the next gay thing Mac is going to say.

Search Party is really good:
http://imdb.com/rg/an_share/title/title/tt5460226/

A group of self-absorbed Brooklyn millenials get drawn into investigating the disappearance of a college friend they haven't spoken to in years. It's true comedy drama, very funny at times but very dark and sad at others. Builds to a fantastic gut-punch of an ending. Alia Shawkat (Maebe from Arrested Development) is fantastic as the lead character.

It's got some good elements, but I think it's got a weird scatterbrained tonal inconsistency that's detrimental to the show as a whole.

I really should make a start on Always Sunny, and it's on Netflix too. Taking on something that's twelve seasons in and still going is quite a prospect though, then again I note the running time of each episode is brief, Wiki says 18-25 minutes.

I'll fire it up tonight in the telly slot, which is once Hearthly Jnr has gone upstairs for her bedtime routines.

Been watching the recent US remake of Dirk Gently.

First, I can see why MaliA likes it, as Dirk is basically his style guide.

Second, I can see why people might dislike Dirk as being over acted, but I really like him, especially as the series goes on (I think I've seen 5 of 8 episodes).

Thirdly, I think the supporting cast is excellent.

Overall I think it's really good fun, but each episode seems about 5-10 minutes too long. There are a lot of stylised and very 'Max Landis' elements, which I think is just part and parcel of the kinds of things he makes.

I will definitely watch the remaining episodes and will likely watch a second series, which is apparently being made.

It's almost certainly one of the best episodes they ever done did.
