I am very much hoping that the ending meant they're setting up Jave to have series 3 vs the Cali cartel.

I think that is definitely the case.

One would have expected them to call the show Pablo, but they didn't, they went generic. If they keep the quality up, I can see it running for a while.

I think the whole history of the cartels in south America, and the US involvement, is something that is a very rich seam to mine. Pablo was very "you couldn't make this shit up".

I miss The Simpsons from when it wasn't shit. Also, why is there no official way to stream The Simpsons, I'd love to go back and watch all the older seasons. When did it go shit? Early 2000s IIRC.

Thanks to a kindly member here at BEEX a 2TB drive arrived at our house last week, loaded with EVERY SIMPSONS EPISODE EVER. (Well up to a point, of course, as they're still making them.)

In terms of shitness, the generally accepted wisdom with Simpsons is:

Season 1 - Not amazing, but has its moments. Finding its feet. Good stuff in here.
Seasons 2 to 8/9/10 (opinion varies) - The real golden years, all the best episodes are in here.
Season 11 onwards - Generally shit, a shadow of its former self, often to the point of being unwatchable.

Obviously I haven't watched them all yet, and I will stop at the point it turns to shit (I remember me and Mrs Hearthly gave up with it on Sky, back in the day, with the episode where they all went to Brazil), but in the meantime it's been fantastic to revisit the classic Simpsons, I haven't watched them for years and years and years. (I'm moving through in chronological order, but have also dipped into specific favourite episodes across many seasons.)

It all holds up really well, some absolutely classic comedy in there.

Looking through the list here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_T ... E2%80%9320)

I can see several episodes in seasons 9 and 10 that were great (The Cartridge Family is in there, for example), but at the same time you can definitely see the slide in 10, and thinking back to when we were watching them as new episodes on Sky, Seasons 11 and 12 were where it really went downhill.

I'm surprised we made it as far as Season 13 (which is when the Brazil episode is), as it had properly turned to crap by then. I very clearly recall however, that we turned that Brazil episode off before it finished, and literally just stopped watching it from that moment onwards, I haven't seen an episode of The Simpsons beyond S13E15.

Great book about the 'Zombie Simpsons' here. Available online for free or for a modest cost on Kindle and other ebook sorts of things which I don't know anything about because they are modern.

Ideal for 'designated break periods'.

It's basically 24 but with an alternate universe Jack Bauer and no set timings. I've not seen the latest episode yet, but it ticks all of the same formulaic boxes.

I find Sutherland entertaining, so will likely stick with it, despite knowing that the real bad guys are still probably half a series away from even appearing.

Designated Survivor is really shallow, but quite entertaining. We're four episodes in.

Hooten and the Lady has continued to delight me, against expectations.

I started watching Luke Cage on Netflix last night, only done the first episode so far but really liked it. He was one of the stronger characters in Jessica Jones (I think I preferred him to Jessica, come to think about it) and I have no doubt he'll be able to carry a series with him as the focus.

Your man himself Mike Colter is superb, very strong screen presence and tremendously charismatic. I can understand why Jessica Jones totally fancied the pants off him.

I'll go into normal 'series mode', which generally means 1 or 2 episodes per night until I'm done.

Not sure how much longer it can go on with key characters all knowing things and not speaking to each other though!

Yes, all of this. We watched four of S4 and then gave up entirely. And I really enjoyed S1/S2/most of S3.

Edit -- apparently its ratings are on a downward spiral and yet it's inexplicably getting a spinoff show: http://www.nbc.com/the-blacklist-redemption?nbc=1

Woah! Episodes 7 and 8 are megashark vs. Giant octopus level quality. Episode 8 is probably below that. Christ. My Gran would have written and acted it better and she's been dead for almost 20 years.

Fox are making a pilot based on the frankly amazing book 'The Passage' by Justin Cronin. It's a sort of post-apocalyptic vampire plague story, but far better than that sounds.

You really should read it. Or wait for the inevitably disappointing TV series.

I'm still excited.

Braindead is incredibly good. It's a sort of sci-fi comedy political drama about politicians getting infected by brain bugs from space. It's funny, and clever, and has Mary Elizabeth Winstead who is brilliant and lovely.
Sadly it was cancelled after just one season, but watch it anyway. It's on Amazon.

I really enjoyed it, although some people upthread said they disliked Barnett as Gently. Which I can see, although he grew on me. He's the worst bit of the show, though. Obv Old Cop Toby Ziegler is the best bit.

The jacket changes colour several times during the show. This is never explained. I like that.

Also, it builds very satisfyingly to a solid ending which, despite the seeming incomprehensibility of the first half, was clearly well thought out from the beginning. And has an absolutely superb comedy moment from Chief Galen in the last-but-one episode. You'll know it when it happens.
