Have binged all but two of Stranger Things in the last 24 hours, excellent. Splendid mix of ET, Close Encounters, Poltergeist, Goonies and The X Files...congratulations to all.

The youngsters in it are brilliant.

Started watching Murder in the First.

Not a new show its currently on S3. Good though each season is one crime investigation.

Also had a look at Zoo, its about animals all over the world loosing their fear of humans, was Ok and is in S2 but I think now we have all the Murder in the First to watch we won't end up watching it.

Filling the gap until the fall stuff starts :)

Where's the best place to start with this? I've read loads of good things about it and of course it's all on Netflix which I already have a sub to, but I've also read that Season 1 really isn't that great, and that it didn't hit its stride until Season 2, or at least the back half of Season 1.

Is it OK to dive straight into Season 2, or is Season 1 not that bad?

I have a DOOM shaped hole that needs filling with something. (Title-ish.)

I'd watch it all. I don't agree that S1 is not worth bothering with; it gets better as it goes along (as do so many comedies) but it's good stuff from the start in my opinion. Plus there's some overarching storyline too.

It's not that long -- half-hour shows and 10-13 per season.

Yeah season 1 of Bojack is good, but it's the end of the season and then especially season two where it really finds its style.

Preacher really is fantastic. We caught up over the weekend and the latest episode was great and the flashback scene suddenly made sense.

So, that's hell. The cowboy is living in a perpetual hell by reliving the days of his family dying. If that's right, shouldn't Eugene be in there somewhere? That'll be interesting to see.

Also, the mess that the angels left the hotel room in. That was quite something! At least they left the radio on for the girl in the bath. That was brilliant.

Watched the first two episodes of Season One of Bojack Horseman last night, if these are supposed to be the weaker episodes before it finds its feet (hooves?) then the prospects are great because I thought it was really funny and engaging right from the start.

I am pleased because after my MEGA DOOM SPLURGE over the last few weeks I need something to consume myself with, and Bojack Horseman looks like it will fit the bill (<< duck joke) nicely.

Yeah I noticed loads of lovely little details just in the first two episodes, the whole thing charmed me right from the off. (And I clocked the slightly bizarre swimming pool too :))

I love the way all the animal people have characteristics of their animals too, like the way Princess Carolyn landed on all four feet when Bojack hoofed her out of the car, and the pigeon people flew off when startled by a loud noise inside the restaurant.

Has the possible new series of Star Trek discovery been discussed?

Sounds like it is set after Enterprise but before ToS

It's not a possible show, it's definitely happening. And yes, it looks like it's set before TOS, based on Bryan Fuller saying at ComicCon that "There’s a big clue in the number of the ship [NCC-1031] that indicates when we’re set." The Enterprise is NCC-1701 so if the Federation numbers ships even vaguely chronologically then that means the new show (which is called Discovery, BTW) must be set before TOS.

(Which also means the earlier reports that it was from the show continuity and not the forked timelines in the current movies isn't technically correct -- if it takes place before the timeline fork, it exists in both continuities equally.)

Edit -- and Netflix UK will be airing it, incidentally.

Everyone who loved the soundtrack and vibe of Stranger Things should really watch It Follows. Yes, it's a 2 year old movie, and i suspect most people here already seen it.

On serial numbers of military equipment:

I think that in WW2, the Britsh started their tank serial numbers at something like 65,456 so if it were captured it would appear that there were at least 65,455 others.

Which leads my thoughts to recall to a way of calculating population through sampling (the most recent application i can recall was counting street prostitutes in Sheffield) by capturing 100, releasing them, then popping back the next week and picking up another 100 and seeing who you caught twice and mathing it up to estimate the total. Which was sort of done with something else in WW2.

Are you sure they weren't looking really far into the future and trying to cause an overflow exception for anyone trying to catalogue their tanks using an unsigned short as a data type?

Although, naturally, an overflow isn't a problem for uniqueness until you go back to your original value. It's far from unusual in discard the overflowed bits and just ignore it ever happened.

Piled through eight episodes of Bojack in the last three nights, absolutely love it.

Jnr caught sight of it when she came back down for something and I then had to explain that even though it was a cartoon it was not suitable for children.

'Does it have violence in it?'
'Does it have sex in it?'
'What are the adult themes?'

And so on.....

Almost at the end of S1 of Flaked. Was worried it was going to be Bojack Just A Man Not A Horseman, and while there are similarities in the characters it's a good show in its own right, and the end of E6 throws a huge curveball in that I didn't expect at all.

I hope it gets renewed for S2!

Season One of BoJack Horseman finished last night, I honestly didn't think there was a massive qualitative difference between the first and second half of the season, although the second half went more into the characters and got a bit 'deeper' I suppose. Either way it was all great, and very funny.

Will make a start on Season Two this evening.

BoJack's bad trip section in one of the final episodes of the season was fantastic (the one where they all consume huge amounts of drugs to try and rewrite the book in less than a week), although not as all-time great as that sequence in The Simpsons where Homer eats the Guatemalan Insanity Pepper and totally trips his balls off.

I miss The Simpsons from when it wasn't shit. Also, why is there no official way to stream The Simpsons, I'd love to go back and watch all the older seasons. When did it go shit? Early 2000s IIRC.

I watched episode 10 of the Preacher last night which looks like it was the end of the first season. It was brilliant! Can't wait for the 2nd season.
