Pretty much the only reason I'm watching right now is to spot the crossover with DareDevil S2.

His powers require proximity to initiate control and that control wears off over time. It's just that the time period in question is relatively long, hence what you're talking about there.

I've been watching Season One of that Fargo thingy on Netflix, that's very good innit. I like Billy Bob Thornton, although not 'like like', if you get my drift, as he's a cold-hearted psychopath.

Some of what goes on stretches credulity a bit, or doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but the overall quality is keeping me hooked - one of those where they've really got the whole cast spot on.

I think I prefer TV series to films these days, far too many films are made now to fit the mould of 'worldwide audience friendly' and 'PG-13' content.

(Checks Beex archives) It's been five years since I finished the first series. Really should start on the second: it's very, very good. And sweary Lovejoy never ceases to fascinate.

Good time to start watching it too. It got cancelled without a decent conclusion, but there's a movie on the way now.

They do - but in this series it really does matter - characters seem to change their relationships (and living situations) wildy, and even reference events that haven't occurred yet!

Finished Season One of Fargo last night which was fantastic, unfortunately Season Two isn't on Netflix because of reasons but I'm sure this can be worked around.

The ending was really satisfying, I was so glad to see Malvo and Lester get their total comeuppance, and the final scene with the happy family was perfect.

Splendid stuff.

Season one was pretty good, but I think the second season is even better, if a little slower to get going.

Post subject:  Re: General Purpose US TV thread

I am moving through Season Two of Fargo and it is indeed epically good.

HOWEVER, the one thing that gets on my tits about it (and indeed did for Season One as well), is why have they retained that stupid THIS IS A TRUE STORY message, along with the twaddle about changing the names of the survivors and leaving the names of the dead unchanged out of respect for them?

I know the original Fargo film had it and it's sort of a homage to that, but when Fargo was released there was genuine ambiguity about it and not everyone had the internet and some people really thought it was true yada yada yada.

However, some twenty years later the same trick doesn't work again, and IMO just looks stupid and detracts from the programme, because it's got that stupid message at the start of every episode.

Also I didn't even recognise Ted Danson at first!

Post subject:  Re: General Purpose US TV thread

I think there's two things:

1. Yes it is an obvious throwback to the original movie, and by the end of season 2 you'll see that it's obviously in part just included as a joke.
2. I think you're not taking into account the extent to which a lot of the audience for the new TV series won't be that familiar (if at all) with the movie.

Christ no, I'd watched every episode of Castle by the time I got half way through S02. I think I stuck with it until maybe half way through S03, at which point I realised it was just the same thing over and over again.

I'm watching on Sky, (it was the Western one yesterday, not as well done as the Red Dwarf Western one, or the Doctor Who western one) America is probably 3-4 weeks ahead or something.

Some leaks on cancelled shows before the networks tell their advertisers

Agent Carter, Castle, CSI Cyber, Nashville, The Grinder are all supposed to be getting canned.

No, I think it was a comment on the fact that DavPaz had already said that Castle and Agent Carter were being cancelled, and it's pretty widely reported. I'm not convinced these are exactly secret leaks.

Master of None is great. It's a bit like Louie but less depressing.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is exactly like 30 rock: most of the time isn't particularly funny, but when it is, it's absolutely hilarious. The blonde one basically does the same character as in 30 rock, and is still funny.

Deadwood continues to be brilliant although I have no idea what has gone on in the past howevermany episodes* but the last one ended up with a drunk Lovejoy soliloquy on his upbringing whilst a teenaged whore sucked him off.

*I have been watching them with Thing Two** between 2am and 7am depending on stuff. As a result I am barely awake so the finer points are lost on me. It involves gold, whisky and mud. What I do understand is pretty good. Set, script and acting is superb.

** MGMT has informed me I am to be nicer about them, and I can't call Captain Shitpants "Chunk" anymore***

*** totally looks like Chunk**** from the Goonies

**** MGMT said she was worried Thing One was a little rotund after health visitor did BMI. That day, I bought Thing One a Barbie doll and await nature to take its course. Thing One is now not undertall with regard to BMI now either. But anyway.
