The Man in the High Castle - 2 episodes in and it is superb. Beautifully shot, real sense of desperation from all sides. I really like it. |

I've seen two as well, and it's definitely good TV. They seem overly fond of annoying background noises though - hissing TVs, ringing phones... |

Weirdly we decided to dip our toes into The Man in the High Castle last night as well, and watched Ep 1. Really nicely realised, it looks great. The rebel chap who got captured was a tad hammy and obvious. Rufus Sewell is nicely unpleasant. |

Has anyone mentioned Manhattan? The 2nd season is pretty much over now I think, really good slow burner of a show. |

Much, much more noticeable. And they linger on it, too. Guy sitting in a chair puffing on a cigarette, TV crackling away loudly. For like, 30 seconds. |

Started watching mithc, got to ep5 liked the first two a lot, seems to drift of a bit in the next few. Disappointed to hear that it isn't a single season show with defined conclusion. |

Finally, there's an Amazon Prime app for the Roku, so I can actually access this stuff through my telly. |

I've been watching "The Man in the high castle" (4 episodes) and i'm not entirely convinced to the changes they made to the book. I know it's a show and they had to add something so fill it, but: ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view! It's still worthwhile though. The cast is good. The main actress is excellent, and is very pretty in a "Hollywood golden-age" kind of way. |

She's bloody lovely. I always think with adaptations like this that you're probably better off pretending you've never read the book, however. See also The Walking Dead. |

I'm usually not very picky when it comes to these adaptations, but as a huge Phillip K. Dick fan, i'm kind of annoyed how his works are always adapted to hollywood clichés, when his books are always about the opposite. For example, in the book Juliana gets intimate with Joe shortly after meeting him, but obviously god forbid having a promiscuous heroine on an american tv show. |

BTW, Fargo was excellent. Kirsten Dunst was brilliant as usual. |

It's on UK Netflix now but the only mentions I can see of it are in this thread - finished Jessica Jones last night. That is some damn good telly. The characters are that finely crafted that all the superhero stuff does just seem normal and the reactions to it all are actually what people would say and discuss with other having been confronted by someone with powers. And it deals with how those individuals cope with the power and how isolated it makes them. This is no consequence-free zone - it even talks about people killed by the alien invasion in Avengers - it's a very ground level series. Tennant and Ritter are both excellent and Kilgrave is a compelling adversary that you can absolutely believe in, not only his powers, but his sociopath nature and what happens when you do live without consequence. Can't recommend it highly enough. |

I often wonder if I'm breaking any laws when (say) the dancers at Bada Bing are shown waving their bits about in The Sopranos and I'm sat on a train with a tablet in clear view of everyone around me. |

The Sopranos tatties were more like 1980's tatties though. They're not like 2000's tatties [which are more objectionable when viewed] [in public on the train] Edit: for clarity. |

Did anyone watch the American office? If so, you'll know the receptionist... Not Pam, the other one. Erin I think. Well... I've seen that she had a sitcom playing the lead. Has anyone seen it? I don't know what it's called but a quick Bing should fix that. |

I generally find that if I read the book first it isn't too bad. I can't seem to find a Maximum Overdrive book though. I loved 11.22.63 though; one of the best I'd read by King in ages, will definitely give this a watch. |

Anyone seen Making a Murderer on Netflix? It's fucking incredible. It's a ten hour documentary about a man who was in jail for 18 years for a sexual assault he didn't commit and then once free (and close to a big cash settlement from the state) gets arrested for another murder. Trailer: ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view! This will redefine documentaries for years to come (and not all for the better) - but it stands as one of the most compelling and important things I've watched all year. Oh, just noticed they've put episode one on youtube here: ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view! |
