Oh if people are looking for a funny thing to watch, may I recommend Nathan For You. It is a wonderful mockumentary series about a guy who offers to be a business consultant for small businesses, and then coerces them via social awkwardness into trying out terrible ideas. It's magnificent, and executed so well that I have no idea how much of it is real and how much of it is pretend.

I can see Master of None being a little decisive. You probably have to be youngish and single to properly enjoy it but maybe not what do I know. It's Aziz Ansari doing what feel a little like short focused stand up sets reframed as a 20 minute sitcom. Each episode has an overarching theme, but it kind of meanders around it. It's well trodden ground, but touches on some interesting subject matter not really covered in this kind of show before (particularly with regard to race).

In addition to other comedies mentioned, I think Always Sunny is great (it is amusing at first, but the characters take a while to develop). Louie is one of the best things on TV.

For comedy recommendation there's Wet Hot American Summer which I haven't actually watched any of yet but the main and recurring cast list is just ludicrous so it can't possibly not be entertaining. Also only eight episodes so not some massive investment of time.

Where did you get to in HIMYM? It lost its way for a while but the last series was great. They remembered that people only care about Barney, see.

Christ, a long way. Early season 8, it seems - I saw Barny and Quinn's bit but didn't see the one about being a godparent.

And I watched the last one to find out who the mother was, but I didn't really care by then.

Community was great until they fired the showrunner.

Turned it off towards the end of episode 1 when it failed to raise so much as a smile.

I don't see why, he's just really good at generating single use random numbers. Can see it being quite dull though.

I enjoyed the first episode of Lucifer, but it's a shame that Another Police Procedural™ is the only possible TV Show format that exists.

There's obvious scope for subverting it like Cary Fukunaga's True Detective, or transcending it like Hannibal. But still.

True Detective Season 2 was OK, perfectly serviceable and better than 95% of what is currently is on TV, everyone needs to get off its back (although it would have been a tighter and better piece if the 'True Detectives' had the Gangster and his wife).

I disagree that it was better than 95% of what is currently on TV, but whatever you think of it, it wasn't really a legitimate follow up to season 1. It was like an entirely different show (and I don't just mean because the setting/characters were different).

"Oh if people are looking for a funny thing to watch, may I recommend Nathan For You"

I'd seen this pop up on the site I check for new releases of US tv shows and assumed it was a bland, dumb sitcom, and so ignored it.

Based on your description though, I decided to give it a go. Grabbed the first episode of Season 1 (I see that Season 3 is currently airing) and
just watched it.
Really liked it and I laughed out loud a couple of times.

Not something I'd binge-watch (I imagine it would get very repetitive if you were to do that) but if later episodes are similar, I'll be gradually working my way through the seasons over the next few weeks. Cheers LewieP.

Totally random entry to this thread but I watched the MOST NOTORIOUS X-FILES EPISODE EVER a couple of nights ago.

The story behind this is that I purchased the entire X-Files DVD boxset a few years ago (even on sale it was £99.99 or something like that), I got most of the way through Season One before realising that a lot of it is a bit crap and it never really got better than seeing Gillian Anderson in her underwear in one of the first episodes.*

However, there are of course some great episodes in there, but I have no idea what they were (I wasn't even an X-Files fan back in the day), so the whole lot was effectively left unwatched, for years.

Fast forward to Pajiba running this piece a couple of weeks ago - http://www.pajiba.com/tv_reviews/rewatc ... -home-.php

So I decided to to at least watch that episode, and yowsers, it was a pretty intense slice of telly. (A baby gets buried alive in the first few minutes and it never really lets up from there.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_(The_X-Files)

I can imagine it causing a fair bit of fuss nearly twenty years ago, and whilst it's not quite got the impact today that it would have had then, it still creeped me out a fair amount.

* Yes I know it was supposed to really hit its stride after the first season and I really should get round to working through the whole lot BUT THERE'S JUST SO MUCH OF IT.

Based on the single episode I've watched so far, no idea (other than the fact the camera crew are surely in on it, right ?).

A quick google search didn't help much either.

Need to watch a few more episodes and then maybe I'll have a better idea (or maybe I won't...)

Sounds like a sequel to this episode will be in the new series.

He was one of the worst aspects of that episode I saw. The entire character was just such a horrendous stereotype that I wondered whether it was going to turn out he was only pretending to be that way. Nope, that's just how the show rolls!

Relatedly: Last night, cool people who are cool and not uncool went to a pub with a mechanical bull. Said pub played lots of good music, including "Pour Some Sugar On Me", which obviously kicked off the video on the last page in my head.

It's tricky to ride a mechanical bull with a boner.

I was just about to say pretty much what Morte already. Has anyone started watching it yet? I'll grab it shortly and probably try and get to it over Christmas; though Fallout is fucking up my TV watching schedule massively and stuff is piling up alarmingly. I might actually try and get some mates together and binge watch it at some point, that would be quite cool.

Watched the first three episodes. Pretty solid stuff so far, similar tone to Daredevil...the fellow playing Luke Cage is excellent and the creepy couple who live upstairs are the stars of the show so far.

The gym one? That won some actual lols from me on the train (especially when Max was doing her crazy eyes). And there was a joke involving Chestnut at the end!

You, Me & The Apocolypse: It is a comedy drams on Sky 1. An asteroid is going to hit the earth and there are several characters doing stuff independent of each other, but looks like they will all join up. It isn't laugh out loud funny, but it raises sone wry smiles. Rob Lowe is pretty good in it, and Pauline Quirk, too. Brain candy, but pretty good.

Ah yes - something about an Imax being built and the Diner being torn down. I agree that it didn't make much sense.

Just a heads-up for sci-fi fans....

There's a new US tv series called "The Expanse". Big-budget stuff. Apparently they had a 5-million dollar budget for each episode.

Not due to start airing until mid-December but the first episode has been made available to watch on-line (and, by extension, can now be downloaded from the usual scene-release and torrent sites).

The small handful of reviews I found all said it was excellent. One basically said it was shaping up to be the best new sci-fi show of the past 10 years.

That's all really. I've downloaded it but not watched it yet.
Just passing this information on. Don't shoot the messenger if it's crap !
