You are not alone, I'm really enjoying it.

If you read the Internet it's blasted for not being like last season and / or really, really slow.

But of course it's not like last season (otherwise you might as well re-run last season) and last season was really, really slow as well broken up with some excellent action (like this weeks shoot out in the streets).

Silly internet.

I've watched the first 2 or 3. The last one I watched had the seedy detective

being shot at point blank range with a shotgun whilst following a lead

and have really quite enjoyed them, but I've been busy/tired/not in the mood when I've had access to the living room TV at a suitable time to watch it (ie when the kids have gone to bed)

I'm of the opinion that this season is pretty awful. No way near as good as the first.

I'm kind of surprised that the terrible actor Vince Vaughn isn't even the weak link ruining everything, he's not really put a foot wrong. The writing is just dull and none of the characters are anywhere near as interesting as Harrelson/Mcconaughey's in the first season.

I guess I'll stick with it, but I am no way near as engaged.

It is slow, but the first season was slow too. There is a difference between a slow burn and just being dull.

There are the occasional good scene, but it's not come close to the highs of the first season.

I've only seen the first two episodes yet, but i don't understand the hate that Vince Vaughn gets everywhere. He does the job fine. And Colin Farrell is great at it, and I never particularly liked him before.

And this new Netflix show looks great:

Nice, I didn't know about that. Pablo looks a little too pretty (in a Brandon Flowers way) but looks good.

Those who haven't read Killing Pablo should read Killing Pablo because it's utterly thrilling and enthralling.

The problem with Vince Vaughn is that he does shit movies all the time. Shit movies where his role is "Be the most annoying you can possibly be".

He is fine in True Detective.

Have to say True Detective S2 is getting good now, strange as S1 was good but slow until Ep4 and S2 is the same.

The total shoot out carnage at the end of Ep4 was brilliant, followed by the revelations that Ray had been stitched up Frank over who raped it his wife is making great viewing

Have one more Episode of Game of Thrones tonight, wife doesn't like it so it takes me time to get through it, after that its the Strain S2

Might have done! Thank you!

Right:

Series 1 is pretty good, but I thought the payoff at the end of Series 1 wasn't great. The main characters are bieveable and behave accordingly. Ron Perlman would have been ace as the company owner, mind you.

It is well worth a watch.

I guess it is worth mentioning that Hannibal is getting CRAZY and they surely can't end this amazing TV show after this series. Surely not.

I really want to see their take on Silence of the Lambs, but I gather they don't have the rights to the character Clarice Starling, even if they do get to continue in some form, be it another series or a movie.

Oh god, this thing that he's talking here. Up here ^^^

Season 3 has been most excellent. Stunning telly stuff which, frankly, if be embarrassed for television if they someone didn't pick it up after this season.

I thought the start (first 2 or 3 eps) of Season three was dull and that co-coincided with the cancellation announcement but ever since then each episode has been amazing !

I thought it was worse than the film.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The film was a guy who got in way above his head despite basically having misguided good intentions, and who at least felt like he had no other option.

The TV show was a guy who decided to murder because it was more convenient than divorce.

Found it much harder to root for him. Despite liking some aspects of the TV show, it didn't match the original for me.

Still decent though.

Good intentions? He intended to have his wife kidnapped to rip off his father in law as well as the criminals he had hired to do the job. I thought the two characters were very similar in that they presented themselves as harmless but they were both actually quite ruthless when it came down to it.

in the film it was clear he felt backed into a corner, even if he wasn't actually. His plan (even thought it didn't actually play out that way) would have resulted in his wife being emotionally scared but still alive. In the TV show he just decided to murder his wife because of reasons.

Brooklyn Nine Nine is a very funny cop comedy with Andy Samberg. Makes us both laugh, and in perfect bite sized 20 minute episodes.

He also presents Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which seems pretty insane to me.

I started to watch Hannibal yesterday and it's pretty stupid. It has every annoying cliche that I can think of. Not even the great Mads Mikkelsen did it for me.

Does it get considerably better?

Author:  Mimi [ Tue Aug 04, 2015 11:12 ]
Post subject:  Re: General Purpose US TV thread

It is full of cliches, but for some reason it didn't bother me that it did. I rather enjoyed the series. The cases certainly get a bit more gruesome about 4 episodes in. The end of the second series is really pretty daft, but if you can suspend your disbelief it is enjoyable and entertaining.

I think it gets better. The current series is easily the best and I'm sad that it's been axed.

Is Series 3 still on? I think I'll wait until all the episodes are played out before I start to watch it. I didn't realise it had finished :( Still, maybe it is good to go out on a high?

Also, does anyone know if that other series has finished - you know, I cannot for the life of me think of what it was called, but it had various horror and literary figures in it, such as Dorian Gray. My mind is drawing a complete blank on the name, and I'm having trouble Googling it because it just keeps on returning results about adaptations of The Picture Of Dorian Gray.
