Girls is just way too good. This season is the better so far. Such a great portrait of a generation.

It's always sunny in philadelphia season 10 is the funniest one so far. Kind of surprising for a show that's been on for so long.

Black Sails is getting better and better. Absolutely loving it.

The Vikings, after a strong first 2 series, is sort of losing its way a bit.

Bosch was very good.

Amazon are doing quite well with the homegrown stuff at the moment. I may give Extant a go, although I am put off by the Halle Berry.

O got a bit bored of Extant after about 6 episodes and watching it degenerated into a discussion about whether or not she'd had her tits done.

What I saw of black sails I liked.

We've done two full, but abortively started another couple of times. It's difficult after that as getting over the hump of "god, we've seen this one so many times" to get past S1 is a bit hard.

I started watching Dexter last night, because I'm right there with the Zeitgeist I am. (It's all on Netflix UK.)

However there are lots of seasons, and I'm thinking it's probably going to jump the shark at some point.

I enjoyed the first episode and will be watching another tonight, is there a point at which you should just stop watching and pretend that all subsequent seasons don't exist?

IIRC there was a bit of a kerfuffle about the final episode of the final season being crap too.

personally I stopped at the end of series 4 (I think? The one with John Lythgoe at any rate). Enjoyed all four series immensely up to that point, and the 4th series is arguably the best. I understand things took a nosedive after that. Probably because I stopped watching.

Heroes is coming back. "Heroes Reborn" with a lot of the original cast in it.
Fingers crossed it is the quality of the first season, and not the last...

Was that before or after the series with Julia Stiles in it, because that series was awesome.

Also the series that had the scene with the four horsemen of the apocalypse: that was one of the most harrowing bits of Tv I have ever seen. And it was awesome.

I think that was the fifth series, so I've missed out clearly. Will see if Mrs Fop can be enticed back to Dexter.

I think you should give it a go. I didn't enjoy the last series at all because it shifted the balance and everyone's motivations changed in a way that kind of broke the pact of disbelief that I took part in until that time.

Season 1 was an excellent self-contained story. I started watching S2 and stopped halfway through as it was rubbish. I'd be interested in seeing the reboot as it specifically mentions getting back to the sort of thing that happened in S1.

I didn't enjoy the second season very much, either. However, I thought the seasons with Lithgoe and Stiles were both excellent.

S3 of Dexter was a bit rubbish, but 4 and 5 were really good.

Unless I am forgetting which was which. Anyway, Lithgoe and Stiles were good. Though I also liked that other girl too.

I sort of lost interest after S1, but Mrs K kept going. I watched bits and bobs after that, and Lithgow (note spelling) was indeed some proper quality. But then he always is, isn't he? It's not a great series overall.

Same. S1 was awesome, but I gave up really soon into S2.

first 2 seasons of dexter were good (specially the 2nd which was awesome). The 3rd was crap, but the 4th redeemed it and it was pretty great. The fifth was terrible, and after seeing a few episodes of the sixth, i got to the conclusion that the show was taking a nosedive, and didn't bothered since.

EDIT: one thing of note. If you want to enjoy dexter, and are used to quality shows such as Mad Men, and most stuff from HBO, turn off your brain. Because even at its best, the show is pretty stupid.

I broadly agree that Dexter is a bit all over the place. Lithgow was as always fantastic, and I think the third season and the final season were the worst.

Post subject:  Re: General Purpose US TV thread

I found Dexter too distressing and stopped watching at the end of the lithghow season. There was too much constant perilous upset in the characters lives and it all became a bit much for me. And when the unfortunate event happened that was it. Too much suffering and distress. I prefer my entertainment a bit more light and fluffy.

This isn't to say it's bad but just not really something I enjoy.
