I'm still watching it, in the hopes that (assuming it doesn't get cancelled) some of this formula will resolve into some explanation and reason to continue watching it into season 2.

Heroes is total fucking bollocks now though. They're scuppering the integrity of the plot by explaining more lunatic backstory that shows connections never previously known, in that predictable (look, everyone really knew everyone else all along!) way. It's a bit of a deperate effort to stimulate the flailing plot, and I'm getting bored.

Just reading the TV pages summaries of Heroes makes it sound like they've gotten desperate, and are now all about the "gasp! what a plot twist!" approach, e.g. turning previously "good" characters into inexplicable baddies, and vice versa.

I'm more at peace with Heroes since I worked out what it was.

It's a comic, see? That's why its continuity is completely fucked, that's why people keep forgetting about powers that they demonstrated in earlier episodes that would completely resolve whatever problem they're currently facing, that's why familiar faces keep turning up from other series to shuffle about ineffectually then bog off again, that's why we keep having insane plot twist piled upon insane plot twist, most of which look more like fanservice than a planned dramatic arc. About two episodes into the new series, I threw up my hands and said "OK, I accept you're not going to make a lick of fucking sense. Just entertain me."

All that being said, it's still a bloody mess and could seriously do with culling about half its characters. Starting with Peter "Fucking" Petrelli and Doctor Woodentop.

and stop introducing new fucking characters when you've no idea what to do with the old ones! What was the point of killing off nikki and then bringing the actor back playing someone who was basically the same person? Did they want to rid her of the kid in a creative way?

Lost does that as well. How many fucking episodes did we have to endure telling us about some fucking character that ended up getting killed off and never referred to again? Waste of fucking time.

I gave up on Heroes about 3 episodes into Series 2, with those stupid irritating South American twins. And Peter Fucking Petrelli still not being dead.

nikki and paulo in lost.... give me a fucking break. Shoehorn them into an aleady bulging cast, pretend they were there all along and then off in a rubbish way. WHY FUCKING BOTHER?

It's about as close to a 'non-main-plot' episode as lost can get.

Lost has gone downhill. I'm not sure I have the mental fortitude to ensure another two fucking seasons of getting to the point of it all. Maybe I'll just wait until its finished and read a plot summary from wikipedia.

Peter was rediculously over powered by the start of series 3 anyway. But wait.....

I had enough of that sort of shit with the X-Files.

I still watch smallville. I don't know WHY I do, because it's shit. It's always shit. It's always been shit. However It's now season 8 and I suppose at this point I might as well see what fucking happens before they cancel it.

Plus Lois is fucking hot, with killer norks.

Now Lost, I'm sure they can shake it up a bit (like they've done with Smallville) by reaching a major milestone in the plot, n. This could give them a chance to start from stratch and do something really spectacular. I don't know what they really could change.

Season 4 was absolutely brilliant, and had so much revealing of plot it was unreal!

It was the only reason I downloaded the film, although first I downloaded the torrent that just showed the scene where she gets fairly nude and boinks a guy.

The film itself is average, like the original but with less explanation. Still, giant norks.

Thank fuck they got rid of Lana though. I never thought she was hot, had non-existant tits, and was a thoroughly annoying, stupid character. Chloe though, why, I'd certainly give her a good seeing to.

Heroes is still watchable (Hi Hayden!) but yes, it has wobbled lately.

Dexter is the treat of the week for me, and it remains fucking, fucking awesome. This week's ep was particularly potent and moving. The whole thing is just really, really well done. I hope it never goes shit.

I still like Prison Break though, although I hope they end it after this season. They can't squeeze much more plot out of it anymore, and to try to do so would end in terrible failure.

Chloe looks too much like my sister for me to have thoughts like that. Lana was a bubble headed joy sink with a big fake smile. Good fucking riddance. I quite liked the teleporting girl from way back, who made a more recent reapperance. She was foxy and feisty. A good combo.

The higher your post-count gets, the more I like you.

Yes, she was hot as shit, and filthy. Writhing around on top of Clark in skimpy pants and bra? She was well up for it, and all he could fucking well do was look angsty and unsure. Jesus.

Then of course, she gets tragically killed off, and Clark is upset for the remaining 4 minutes of the episode. Then the next ep, he's as right as rain, never shows any grief about his recently murdered girlfriend, and goes back to pining after the bubble-head. Fucking hell.

Many times this. Lost is the only show I can think of that jumped the shark and then jumped back. Clearly, deciding where and when and how it will end was exactly what the show needed.

Yeah, same here. S3 clicked with me after a couple of episodes. Now I just pick my feet up, disengage my brain, and let it sweep me along. It's failing to deliver on the promise it showed in S1 but it's still more than entertaining enough to justify 45 minutes a week from me.

heroes.... hmm.... I was downloading them to see them as soon as possible, but since the beeb is only a week or so behind now I figured I'd save the bandwidth and just watch on bbc3. Time will tell.

I'm still regularly downloading Smallville (as CG and I have discussed), House (Loved it start to present day, no other show can be so formulaic to a tee and still be fun), My Name is Earl (quality is dropping off alarmingly and I've just found out that Jason Lee is a Scientologist!) and Chuck (me and the missus agree, one of the best shows around at the mo. Fun for geeks and spouses of geeks alike)

If you thought S4 was better than usual then consider the fact that they had to 'squeeze' the whole season's plot in to half as many episodes as they otherwise would have.

No they didn't. They did a deal with the network towards the end of S3 that there would be three more seasons, each 16 episodes long[1]. They plotted the end of the show out then (as they would have had to have done of course because of the ). They would have taken the length of the season into account when writing it, so why would anything be squeezed?

Well, nerd-king-who-researches-everything, I still think it's painfully drawn out nonsense at this point, trading on complete and persistant mystery with the promise of eventually explaining it all in some understandable way.

I think it's all going to end in cheap dissapointment. I was its biggest advocate for s1 and 2, but even I've had to accept that if I watch it from here on out, it'll be purely out of vague, unethusiastic curiosity.
