The Good Place ended really, really well. It's up there for B99 for me, and that's high praise. All six of the central cast are at the top of their game.

I finished the first season of LUKE CAGE last night.

Overall it was pretty good, although by the end of the season I'd place it below Jessica Jones and S01 of Daredevil. (I didn't think S02 of Daredevil was as good as S01.)

The big problem I had with season one of NICK CAGE (as we call it), was:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Killing off Cornell Stokes halfway through the season and replacing him with the less interesting, cliched, cartoonish Stryker. For starters I think it's just bad form to establish the villain of the piece at great length, and then have him be killed by his own cousin, because we're already invested in the character and we wish to see GOOD triumph against EVIL.

And then to replace him with 'standard movie device #24 the brother with a grudge' seemed extra crap. The guy who played Stryker seemed to be a good actor and that, but the dude who played Cornell was far more effective IMO.

Compare and contrast with David Tennant's turn as Kilgrave in Jessica Jones and one surely has to conclude that Stryker was a poor choice for the ultimate villain of the season.

Not happy to see it end on a clear setup for season two either, with no real closure on the story arc of season one. They may as well have just put 'tune in next week' over the closing credits as that's basically all they did.

Yeah I think Luke Cage squandered a lot of good elements with structural problems as you've described. It's becoming more clear to me that the Netflix Marvel stuff needs to be tighter. I'd love to see them do 6 episode seasons. I've felt all of them except for the first season of daredevil have to an extent fallen apart in the latter half.

I loved Luke Cage, much more than either season of Daredevil (even though I enjoyed that too). Jessica Jones was best though.

:this: :this: On six-ep seasons, great idea. Daredevil and JJ both felt flabbier than King Pin's arse at times.

I liked Jessica Jones, but I think it might have benefited from having 5/6 episodes of her doing a case of the week, so we could spend more time with her as a PI, gradually introducing the Kilgrave stuff and then switching gears completely for the second half.

It was a little slow getting started, so I think using the format to have self contained stories setting the scene early on could have helped.

Basically all the Netflix stuff feels stretched a little thin. They either need to use the format properly, or trim it down.

:DD This is brilliant.

The season started good but got real shit towards the end. The episodes were too long without much happening. Luke spends almost an entire hour in a basement in one episode and seems entirely reluctant to beat everyone up so he can get out. Then he predictably does in the last 5 minutes.

GZA said it best "Make it brief, son, half short and twice strong." 'cause Method Man was in it, init.

The other week I was looking through the programme's on Amazon Prime and I found one called Sexy Cuisine. The title sparked my interest and, as far as I can see, It's a cookery programme where the chef cooks while 2 or 3 hang out around him with their boobs out. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

At no point does he acknowledge they're topless at all. What a bizarre show this is!

Is it safe to assume that the 2 or 3 who hang with the chef are female?

Yup. They seem to occasionally do a little sous-cheffing, but mostly stand there while he does a completely normal cookery show.

Is that like sous-videing? Do they lock themselves into an airtight plastic bag and then take a water bath?

Sous means "under" (chef means "boss"). Vide means "empty" or "vacuum".

There's some odd stuff on Prime. I regularly check for updates to it on this site. Sexy Cuisine sounds better than The Cigar Vixen though. "Travel the world with sexy host Delicia Silva as she navigates the world of cigars and unseen exotic hideaways."

Yeah, the films on Prime remind me of wandering into a mid 80s video rental store and looking in the horror and soft porn section

It's all in Japanese, and isn't subtitled.
