I've watched the first ep and it was more like a film than a TV show in places - it does seem to have potential

American Horror Story: Coven question! episode 6.

Is the doctor a grown up Jonathan from Buffy? Looks like him.

No. Danny Strong (Jonathan) is in Mad Men, though.

Ahh, gotcha. Good. This guy had a really shit part, anyway.

Anyhoo, AHS: Coven is much better than AHS: Asylum but once again it takes a good 4 or 5 episodes to get good.

After three eps (with the fourth to watch tonight) I'm totally hooked.

They also seem to be using little lines of dialog from other shows as geek-bait. There's one from Star Wars I've spotted so far and apparently there's a Dredd reference in Ep4.

Fans of witty action sci-fi in a Whedonish mold might like to check out Almost Human. Karl Urban (Bones in the new Trek movies, Judge Dredd) is a grizzled, grumpy detective in the future where every cop is partnered with an android; Michael Ealy is his quirky obsolete model android partner. The setup doesn't win any prizes for originality and the pilot is rather po-faced, but Urban is as watchable as ever and he has an easy chemistry with Ealy that results in lots of amusing banter in the second episode. It's off to a strong start.

I've got it queued to watch but it takes a huge effort to start something new these days. On that recommendation... I reckon we'll give it a punt.

Although I fear no matter how good it is, Sci Fi TV shows are often cursed from the start with the ever present threat of cancellation.

Just found a show called Mob City by the same guys who did Walking Dead.

Just the usual "water testing" 6 epiosdes in this first season and 4 are out there to date.

I love The Office USA. Or is it The US Office? Anyway, I love The Office that doesn't have that cunt in it. It's funny, cute and funny. Mainly funny. Which is good, it being a comedy an' all.

Watched the first double-episode last week.

It was perfectly decent but nothing special.
Nothing particularly wrong with it, but it's hardly the same quality as, say, Boardwalk Empire.

Got the latest double-episode ready to watch.
Hope it's an improvement....

I'm not surprised that the last episode of Dexter was cheap. That show was always a bit shit, but a few moments of brilliance convinced me otherwise. The second season and forth were ok, the rest was silly. I gave up on the sixth season, as it started even worse than the others.

I actually thought the last episode of Dexter was pretty good.

Massive spoilers ahead:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
For all the criticism I thought it was going to be a Happy Ever After ending. Instead a bold move to do what they did with each character, especially Debs and Dexter. It was terrifically sad and depressing (think of the kids!), and that doesn't happen often enough in this kind of thing.
I am, however, totally ignoring the final scene, which to my mind should not have existed.

I thought HIMYM had actually picked up in this series compared to the last couple. In particular, the running "Barney thinking Robin meant they could finally have anal sex" joke has been brilliant.

Yes, the show is picking up. Only the first episodes of the season were bad so far.

Just download a show called Serangoon Road.

Quote:
"Serangoon Road is an Australian-Singaporean television drama series which premiered on 22 September 2013 on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and HBO Asia. It is a detective noir drama set in the 1960s, revolving around Serangoon Road in Singapore"

Quote:
"The series is set in Singapore during the mid-1960's, a tumultuous time in the island's history. The country is at a crossroads as the nation is about to break away from Malaysia and gain independence. The British colonial rulers are gradually pulling out of the country, while racial tensions are running high and the ensuing riots are threatening national security. Communist insurgency movements are active in neighbouring countries."

Looked a bit different from the normal TV so thought it was worth a look.

Suits was great for the first 1, maybe 2 series. Then it was just far too much Harvey being all like "I'm awesome, be loyal to me, I'm awesome! I have defeated you with awesome!" It got tired real quickly, and it didn't help that the characters were, whilst watchable and amusing, not at all likeable.

Couple of new shows I found

Intelligence, features Sawyer from Lost in the lead role, He plays an agent with a super micro chip in his head, 1st epiosde was pretty good.

Killer Woman, Texas Ranger cop show with Tricia Helfer (Number 6 in Battlestar Galactica) in the lead. Ok show to watch like most of these "cop" shows are, but not that stand out. Will watch some more of it though

First episode of Chicago PD aired on Wednesday, and I thought it was pretty good. It's a bit more adult than Chicago Fire that it's spun off, but that's not a problem.

I saw Intelligence to download but haven't watched it yet. It seemed like a poor copy of Chuck without the humour.

Who was it who liked Warehouse 13? I got halfway through the pilot and gave up. Does it get any better?

Ditto Fringe - watched the whole of the pilot but it was through gritted teeth, wanting to stab the OTT nutty professor through the face with a spoon.

Fringe is brilliant, especially the earlier seasons. The later seasons are still really good but it starts to collapse a bit under the weight of all this shit that's happened.

I had a similar experience to you with Warehouse 13 though and gave up after the second episode.

I know a few people it just didn't click with but if you look at the first season or so as a sort of modern X-Files I think it works really well. The first five or so minutes of each episode always introduces the event they'll spend that episode investigating which was an excellent hook for me because they came up with some genuinely impressively fucked-up stuff. Also, Pacey from Dawson's Creek is especially engaging which surprised the hell out of me.

I thought that Fringe was very good, Warehouse 13 was good as well, but I have dropped off it as my wife hates shows like this and these days there are so many US shows to watch I don't have time along with a baby as well.

I liked Fringe for a bit, but the later series just got a bit silly, and I preferred it when the individual episodes were good and only hinted at a bigger picture.

And the doctor, whilst hamming it up, is a genuinely interesting and unusual character.

Banshee has returned for its second series now.
There's also a double episode of Helix - a Ron D Moore show about a plague threatening to wipe out the planet which sounds good.

True Detective has Woody Harrleson in, which gets it an automatic place on the watch list.

It's just started on discovery, hour and a half episodes, 3 out so far.

It's about the gold miners there at the turn of the 20th century. Pretty good.

It's outstanding. Utterly mesmerising. Fantastic and somewhat left-field casting, too -- with Harrelson as the more normal cop, and McConaughey as the intense, brooding loner.
