Almost Human? Bugger, I was going to watch that.

Californication wasn't cancelled as such, it was a planned ending.

The only other one I watched was Dracula, and it was rubbish.

Almost Human hung by a thread but in the end didn't make it. If you watch it anyway, watch the episodes in the intended order -- like Firefly, Fox fucked about with the broadcast ordering.

Some new shows

Dominion- Cross between Game of Thrones and Supernatural

Last Ship- " a global virus pandemic nearly obliterates the earth's population" crew of a navy destroyer are all that are left etc

Also True Blood S7 started today

Not watched any of the new stuff yet as my parents have been staying for the last 4 days. Last night we had to watch Country File, followed by Antiques Road Show :DD

I watched the pilot of "The 100" the other day. It was fucking awful, but as it is a CW show I think, I expect it will last another 10 seasons...

Is that a prequel to "The 4400"?

The 100 looks like a load of teen fluff at first but it really does improve hugely and has been renewed.

Halt and Catch Fire has been great so far, as has Penny Dreadful.
The Last Ship started last night so I've got that to watch this evening.

Fargo was great.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
So glad they ended it properly though.

Yes, it was very good, but the show is still full of those bullshit moments that annoy me like

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
billy bob thornton never getting caught despite being completely uncautious. I had to tell myself that he was some kind of demigod like Judge Holden in Blood Meridian to take the show seriously

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Or Gus basically murdering a man and coming away with a bravery medal or something. Or maybe i just don't know anything about american justice

New HBO show The Leftovers

A Rapture type plot in a small town, not started watching it yet, but HBO stuff is usually OK

Perception and Unforgettable have both started their 3rd season in the last week or two - also the pilot for the new CW show 'The Flash' has leaked online (and is not bad)

I don't suppose anyone's been watching Halt and Catch Fire? I just saw a mention of it on an Engadget article a few minutes ago having never even heard of it before and it sounds intriguing.

Basic summary from the Wikipedia page:

Quote:
The series is set in the Silicon Prairie of Texas in 1983 and depicts a fictionalized insider's view of the personal computer revolution. The show's title refers to the machine code instruction Halt and Catch Fire, which would cause the computer's central processing unit to cease functioning.

It seems to be reviewing well so I might give it a shot.

Yep, Halt.... has been excellent so far. I think I first saw it mentioned on here and have loved it from day one.

Sadly it's not looking too promising for a series 2.

Cool. Weirdly I actually like the fact that it's only ten episodes long rather than the slightly wearying 24 or whatever that most US stuff is these days.

More and more shows are doing 13 episodes or less now which is a definite step in the right direction. There's very few shows that can keep the quality up for that long.

Plus it presumably hurts the chances of stuff getting recommissioned because of the enormous financial commitment of saying that you'll fund another 24 episodes series. With smaller seasons it becomes more likely networks would take a chance on shows that have potential but haven't pulled in massive ratings quite yet.

Yeah, I've been watching Halt & Catch fire too. I recommended the first episode a page or two back when it became available online a couple of weeks before transmission.

Since then I've watched up to episode 6 (and have episode 7 to watch tonight) and it's been consistently solid. Really enjoying it.

Anyone watched The Strain?

"Drama based on Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's horror trilogy, about a vampiric virus that has infected New York and the battle of mammoth proportions that follows."

One episode out with the 2nd on the 20th

Sounds a bit like a cross between the Walking Dead and True Blood!

Not really an US show, but i have been watching an incredible Portuguese drama series about the early eighties music scene, and there was an awesome and obscure reference to Championship Manager.

I had to pause it and explain it to my wife but it made my day. So cool that some screenwriter managed to squeeze that in.

What's that called then ? Sounds interesting (partly because I have a fondness for early 80's music but mainly because you described it as being "incredible").

Doing some rough translation, it's called "Sons of Rock", but i don't think it's of potential interest to foreigners since it mostly deals with the portuguese music scene of the late 70's/early 80s (the first years of democracy), and even if you were open minded enough for that, i doubt that there is english subtitles around.

Bojack Horseman looks like it could be interesting. An animated comedy starring Will Arnett (of Arrested Development fame) as a washed up anthropomorphic horse actor. Also features Alison Brie and Aaron Paul and is exclusive to Netflix beginning on the 2nd of August.

(Both have minor spoilers for the premise, which is built up to fairly slowly in the show.)

Big budget horror TV series from del Toro, based on the trilogy of novels he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan. Pleasingly, it's planned as a 3-5 season show, with a fixed timeline and a fixed ending. I like things that have an ending. Unsure how involved del Toro will be as time goes on, but he's been very hands on as writer, showrunner, and occasional director of the first season.

I've only seen the first episode so far, and although it's a bit hoary and clichéd in places (a ranting old geezer who's the only person who knows the terrible truth! A driven main character with family problems! Sinister businessmen in immaculate suits talking in oblique but threatening language!) it's generally well done (squirmy body horror! Intriguing somewhat-new take on a very old story!) Four episodes have aired in the US, to decent reviews.

I'm interested in 'The Intruders' which comes out soon. Drama made by BBC America, starting John Simm and others, based on a book by one of my absolute favourite authors (though actually one of his lesser books IMO).

I can't be arsed to find a trailer.

:D

Found another show Manhattan, not watched it yet there are 2 episodes out from a run of 13

Blurb below

Manhattan is set against the backdrop of the clandestine mission to build the world’s first atomic bomb in Los Alamos, New Mexico and follows the brilliant but flawed scientists and their families as they attempt to co-exist in a world where secrets and lies infiltrate every aspect of their lives.

Another Sci-Fi show ... The Lottery

Quote:
Set in a world destined for extinction as women have stopped having children. When remarkably 100 embryos are successfully fertilized, a national lottery is held to decide the surrogates

Starting watching it the other night and fell asleep! So will give it another go this weekend, I feel asleep more as I was tired than the content of the show!

Three episodes in and I'm really enjoying it. The first was a bit slow, but it's developing nicely.

Oh, and Halt and Catch Fire just got better and better. Fingers crossed it gets a second series.

I wasn't completely drawn in by the first episode but it left me interested enough to stick with it.

Totally hooked on it now. I like the dark, mysterious tone, the acting is great, and (in particular), the two episodes that focus almost entirely on a single character have been outstanding IMO.
Definitely not for everyone (some will just find it plain boring or silly I imagine - or they may just want to be spoon-fed easy answers) but I'm really enjoying it.

I watched the first two episodes last night - not bad, will continue watching. You have definitely hit the nail on the head with te cliches there, although you missed that staple of the horror genre, the terrifying small girl. With added French!

So, will watch. Despite some horrific SAMWISE GAMGEE.

I've watched the first 4 episodes of this I think, well all that's out already, I really like it. Well written and thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm getting a bit bored of The Strain, 4 episodes in. I've just started, and am liking, Penny Dreadful. Massively helped by Mr Dalton and the lovely lovely lady who played Vesper in Quantum of Solace.

I'm missing some sci fi so may have another crack at Defiance.

Watched the first three episodes of Bates Motel. It's getting quite interesting, the kid from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (the shit one with Jonny Depp) is good as the young, reimagined Norman Bates character. Not bad so far.
