I love it. I cannot explain why, but it is great.

Yes it was great - Mads Mikkelson is excellent, and it's very faithful to the source canon even though this is all new stuff.

Up to episode 5 of the second series of 'House of Cards'. Enjoying it so far, though currently does not feel as tight as series 1.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Pretty sure near the end there's a very brief close-up of someone I knew who was one of the re-enactor extras. Real shame we fell out so badly (see emo posts) - I had been looking forward to seeing the results of the three days he spent filming in and remember how thrilled he was when he told me what he had been up to. Not going to re-watch the episode looking for him

I'm currently ploughing through them as my commute TV show, but I had a long break before continuing, mainly due to the awful middle of the third season that I couldn't face.

The whole time in Ireland was proper shit

I've forced myself to continue and it has picked up towards the end and is getting good again. Seasons 1 and 2 were great.
Should I continue with Season 4, it can't be worse than Season 3 can it? Does it get back to the original quality levels?

I am watching this and have now reached that place. I am also confused as to which of the other people are who, as they just seem to re-appear as if nobody has noticed their evil arch enemy doing the shopping IN THE SAME SMALL TOWN FOR THE PAST HOWEVER LONG AFTER THEIR DEFEAT.

So, there is a new / updated version of Cosmos being launched is a few weeks. Now I'm old enough to have watched (and loved) the original with Sagan so I was a bit suspicious of someone trying to remake it. However having heard a number of interviews with the presenter Neil DeGrasse Tyson I'm now looking forward to it.

Grim... mentioned it on here somewhere, I think he liked it, I liked it, but I thought the characters were lazily written, very stereotypical.

If they make more I think I would watch (the ending of the episode was well worth the wait) a few to see where it went.

But I would hope the characters were a bit less one dimensional.

Aye, the Irish dude was awful and I agree the writing was lazy.
I'd watch it again though, as beside all that it was interesting.

Surprise Craster scale moment too, it's filmed in the way of all the other primetime shows, so that was unexpected.

Up to date with Hannibal so far and wow is it impressive

Image

Link contains spoilers so dont click unless your up to date but just a comment on the gif above (from the opening of this weeks episode)

http://janicepoonart.blogspot.co.uk/

Quote:
We are more than a bit concerned with the Benihana egg trick called for in the script. I’ve tried it and can only get it 1 out of 4 tries, and I’ve seen Benihana chefs flub the manoeuver when they have an entire grill as target. Mads has to crack his eggs into a 8-inch diameter skillet. The props Master calls his guy. The Production Manager calls in his guy. I call my guy. On the morning of the shoot we have 8 dozen eggs and 3 Japanese chefs with their hands made up to be hand doubles.

I guess I don’t have to tell you that when Mads arrives on set, I briefly describe the egg trick to him whereupon he just tosses an egg up in the air and breaks it perfectly on the spatula. Did it. Unbelievable. I insist it was a lucky fluke but he does it again. I accuse him of practicing when I wasn’t looking but he laughs (as if he has time to practise egg-cracking between scenes) and confesses he was a juggler in his youth.

The fewer cuts a movie has, the better.

Except that one Russian movie I saw that was a single continuous take -- that was terrible and it had badly mixed MONO SOUND.

So, FARGO (the new TV series)....

Anyone watched the first episode of this ?

I'm a huge fan of the original Cohen Brothers film and was very skeptical as to how this would turn out.

Needn't have worried. Thought it was great & had the same feel as the film with quirky characters, black humour, sudden violent acts etc.

It did initially feel a bit too similar to the film (as far as the story-telling goes) but gradually started to diverge.

Also, it seems many critics have seen the first 4 episodes & reckon it gets better and more original as it goes on.

I'm definitely in for the long haul. Should keep me happy now that True Detective has finished.

P.S. Billy Bob Thornton's character is awesome.

I watched the first episode last night, it took me a while to get over an American accent coming out of Tim from the Office's face, but I really enjoyed it.

I'll be watching at Channel 4 pace (or usually a couple of days later as I'll be watching with my wife and she works Sunday evenings...

Do I need to watch the film of Fargo before I can watch the series?

Crisis

Plot is that a load of teenage kids get kidnapped during a field trip. They all go to an "elite" school in Washington and their parents are all CEO's and other powerful people, the US presidents son is also among them.

They are taken by some mastermind who has a plan which involves each powerful parent doing a task for the wider plan to get their respective kids back.

We watched the first episode of Salem last night - pretty much what you'd expect with witches and so on. Not turned up to 11 like American Horror Story, but not bad.

In other films into telly series news we've been really enjoying the Dusk Till Dawn series on Netflix. Gave it a go expecting it to be utter drivel but it's actually really interesting. It basically follows the same story as the film but fleshes out a lot of detail and adds a few elements in. The lead actor's George Clooney impression is pretty good. And wisely, the actor playing the other Gecko brother isn't copying Tarantino's acting style at all.

Re : Fargo

No, you don't need to watch the film. This is a new story set in the same world / location as the film but with new characters & a different story. The first episode introduces some characters who admittedly feel like mirror-images of characters from the film (eg. Martin Freeman = William H. Macy) & gives a certain sense of deja-vu for fans of the movie, but if you haven't seen the film then that's completely irrelevant.

Yep, I quite liked it too. Hard to tell how the season is going pan out since this first episode was mostly about "bringing the team together" but it was enjoyable, well acted & looked nice (I'm talking about the general production values there, not just Eva Green). Also made me jump a couple of times.

7.5/10. I'll be tuning in (well downloading..) next week.

Allegedly the network leaked the pilot episode. I'm not really sure how that works, how can the legitimate owner releasing something ever be called a leak?

When I pressed the "go and look for it on the off chance" button on my TV guide it found it.

Releasing the pilot of a show into the wild is a great way to get publicity, IMO.

Which means no one can claim the network leaked it. Someone who works for the network maybe, but that's not the same thing.

Don't know whether that's just as a response to a Yarrr copy floating about or the source of it though.
