Mike Colter (Cage) has been excellent in everything else I have seen him in.

He's very good. Oh and anyone with fond memories of the 10th Doctor may want to give it a miss as it may spoil your memories of Dr Who.

The gym one? That won some actual lols from me on the train (especially when Max was doing her crazy eyes). And there was a joke involving Chestnut at the end!

You, Me & The Apocolypse: It is a comedy drams on Sky 1. An asteroid is going to hit the earth and there are several characters doing stuff independent of each other, but looks like they will all join up. It isn't laugh out loud funny, but it raises sone wry smiles. Rob Lowe is pretty good in it, and Pauline Quirk, too. Brain candy, but pretty good.

Ah yes - something about an Imax being built and the Diner being torn down. I agree that it didn't make much sense.

The Gym one is much better!

Just a heads-up for sci-fi fans....

There's a new US tv series called "The Expanse". Big-budget stuff. Apparently they had a 5-million dollar budget for each episode.

Not due to start airing until mid-December but the first episode has been made available to watch on-line (and, by extension, can now be downloaded from the usual scene-release and torrent sites).

The small handful of reviews I found all said it was excellent. One basically said it was shaping up to be the best new sci-fi show of the past 10 years.

That's all really. I've downloaded it but not watched it yet.
Just passing this information on. Don't shoot the messenger if it's crap !

The Expanse is Good Shit. I can easily below the massive budget; it looks amazing.

Has David Tenant come into it yet? I'm curious to see whether he pulls off 'villain'.

Wasn't he the baddie in Gone In 60 Seconds?

It doesn't look quite as 'young adult soap opera' as the CWs other fucking awful DC output but yeah, it still looks cheesy as shit. It's actually not a bad setup in that it gives a massive scope for good, interesting stories to be told but it doesn't look the part at all.

Google for "tpb proxy" or "kat proxy". It's one extra step but still works perfectly fine for all my downloading needs.

Just downloaded this. I read the book it's based on earlier this year, which to be frank, isn't brilliant. However, I suppose it was an interesting premise, so looking forward to watching this this evening.

Ah, thanks for all that although I have tried those things recently and it's always resulted in failure. Im pretty sure actually that my pc is fucked right in the software and I need to reinstall the os but I lent the disc out ages ago and dont want to buy another license so the pc must languish a while longer. :(

Just watched this and really enjoyed it. The book it's based on, Leviathan Wakes won't win any awards for originality but it's a pretty decent and very solid space opera/western. The programme seems to be taking the book and applying some serious bucks, not only in production values but also in writing and directing. It's good, if not great. Doesn't spoon feed in any shape or fashion and seems to be taking its time in letting the narrative unfurl pretty similarly to the book. Give it a look guys.

Found a couple of shows...

Wicked City, a detective show set in LA in the early 1980's. Watched one episode last night and its very good. The plan for this show is that each season will be one story set in a different time period based in LA each time.

This season features a great 80's soundtrack and last night at lot of the action was in the Whiskey a go go club and had Billy Idol playing on stage (well I guess a guy dressed up look like him) all made for a great show

Prey, not watched this yet, but plot is around a new species of human appearing that preys on the current species. Liked the idea but not sure my wife will be too keen. Will give it ago next week when she goes to one of her exercise classes!

This has been cancelled after 3 episodes, with 8 made over all

It was really promising as well, not had a show I liked pulled for a long time!

Finally watched the last couple of episodes of Daredevil.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
An okay end. The last fight had a few fun bits in it, but there were a few kinda tired old tropes in the last couple of episodes.

Wesley's death was just atrociously done, and almost stopped me from watching the last couple of episodes.

"Hi, I'm a man known for his meticulous planning. I run the Wilson Fisk empire and am his right hand man. I am basically a criminal mastermind who is specifically known for his ability to plan and to foresee issues and make sure eventualities are covered.

Watch me insist I am alone while I interrogate a woman who hates me, threaten to kill everyone she ever loved, and then hand her a gun! Imagine my surprise when she kills me with the gun I handed her!"

I also think there was a bit much 'action offstage', when there'd be ten men with guns, we hear some punching sounds, and then they're all down and out.

And Fisk's escape from the truck has been done about a zillion times before, so it had literally no impact (much like the bullets of the cops with loads of cover versus the baddies who were stood in the middle of the street, right... strange how the baddie cops were earlier crack shots who couldn't miss!).

The FBI not even speaking to Fisk's other half was silly, as was Daredevil's ability to hear the conversation Fisk was having in the truck.

Also, the Stick storyline kinda vanished. Thought that was coming back at some point. Maybe in season 2.

Overall it was good, but just seemed rushed towards the end and relied on characters being stupid and too many shortcuts.

I'd happily watch a second season though. The guy playing Murdock was cool, and red hair girl is lovely.

In other US TV news, I saw this on io9...

Quote:
The Dark Tower

Following the news that Matthew McConaughey had been approached to play either the lead or the villain in the long-in-development film, Deadline is now reporting that Idris Elba is the frontrunner to play gunslinger Roland Deschain, the hero of the piece.

Not sure about Edris for Roland. He's obviously based on Clint Eastwood. He needs to be a knarly ugly old man.

That kind of thinking just leads to you casting a second-rate Eastwood lookalike though; that works on the page but is rather more clunky in an adaptation. Might be better to inject some breathing room between the Eastwood cliche and the character. There are other Western tropes you could mix in, for example.

I have episodes 1, 3 and 4 of The Expanse.

That's a bit odd.

Episode 2 is due out in a few hours, though.

I have episodes 1, 3 and 4 of The Expanse.

That's a bit odd.

Episode 2 is due out in a few hours, though.

There have been a few times that's happened - normally something is held back due to something in the real world (e.g. Supergirl episode 4 was pushed around with ep 5 since it had a 'terrorist' and it was the week of the Paris attacks , there was another cop show that had an episode pushed around because of the Boston Bombing (Castle?) and it had similar themes)
