I have a CD32.

I like my CD32.. sometimes.

Anyway, can anyone recommend a suitable controller for it? The one that came with it is on it's last legs it seems and it's not that good anyway.

Would a 6 button Megadrive pad work with it? Anyone got any ideas?

The cd32 had its own unique method for presenting the extra buttons, so I don't think a pad for any other system will work.
However, any Amiga / Atari 9-pin joystick will work, and I think most games didn't use the extra buttons anyway.

Otherwise you might be able to gut it and put the circuit board into a better pad, but that will be fiddly.

You should be able to get two buttons out of a megadrive pad (B&C for Red & Blue?), but I don't know if anything else will work.
I've no idea where you might get a pad from though, I think I threw my console out a few years ago and presumably the pads with it.

I've seen a playstation adaptor on eBay for the CD32 but I doubt it'll work.. call my cynical!

I'll give the Megadrive pad a go though.. I'm sure they'd be a small market for retro controllers etc. Someone should think of the children and do something!

The six-button Megadrive pad is The option for The Vision, yes. That's the one for the CD32.

Yep, the six button megadrive pad works fine. I need to dig my CD32 out of storage at some point, still a wonderful machine.

For those of you keeping score.. I'm getting my CD32 from my parents this evening!

Was it Alien Breed 3D that was the good one? In fact... can anyone recommend me do the definitive games for the CD32?

No, definitely not the 3D one. I don't think that came out on the CD32 anyway. Alien Breed's a bit disappointing to go back to anyway, the respawning enemies are infuriating.

It was. I had two.

They weren't the most sturdy of pads though, hence the 'had'w

Plus Lik-Sang used to sell them dirt cheap. Every time I'd get one or two in for my site, they'd sell within days. Unfortunately, they ran out.

You're joking, right? ?:|

I do recommend you get the 200, 350, 444, 888 'Multi Game Compilations' which should be found all over the place: as the CD32 is an Amiga, it can play pretty much every old Amiga game ever, and loads of them fit on a single disc. You don't need to mod your CD32 or anything. They're silly fun when you're bored out of your wits and you want to play terrible crap.

About 10% of the games on them require you to use the keyboard, so if that happens, just skip em. (The keyboard is not easy to find, or you could mutilate an A500 if you care. Don't do this.)

Just got back from my parents and got my CD32! I found one of those competition pro pads in my old loft as well as a megadrive 6 button pad.

So far I've played Bubba and Stix and Banshee. I do have Guardian, Shadow Fighter and even Rise of the Robots (This was £34.99 credit crunch fans.. the sticker is still on it)

Only one problem.. I don't remember the borders ever being this bad!

In the past month, I've bought Rise of the Robots for the CD32 and for the Megadrive. The CD32 box is much nicer. On the outside. Haven't quite dared open it yet...

I got that pack with Oscar, Diggers, Microcosm, Chaos Engine, Dangerous Streets and Wing Commander, but mine didn't have the Dangerous Streets/Wing Commander disc in it. I didn't bother to go back and complain.

Ah, yep. That must have been what the previous owner did. And presumably why they didn't want it any more.

When you say they're available anywhere... erm... where exactly? I've had a quick look (in my local shop-Ed) but can't find anyone to serve me! If you get my drift?!?

Okay, so you've got Diggers. You've got Microcosm. You've got Dangerous Streets. But I'll bet you don't have it twice.

The full collection (not long started). Some kind of points for anyone who can identify the game in the last picture, above Sabre Team. Clue: it's a full-price commercial game that also appeared on the Amiga.

Well, the little face on it looks like a very much more malevolent version of Marvin from Marvin's Marvellous Adventure.

Edit - Huh, whaddya know, he looks malevolent on the cover.

It's an awesome game, even today. Hard as nails. My CD32 came with a couple of those compilation CDs and the (I think) A500 version was included :)

They are pretty cheap on eBay from what I can see and with that link that MrD provided, there's no real reason not to get one!

So in closing.. get one!

Why didn't everyone get them 14 years ago?
They could have taken over the console market and we'd all still be using our amiga computers and CD360s. :(

They were pretty shit. Worth remembering that CD compilations of 400 Amiga games weren't available at the time, and the PlayStation and Saturn were on the near horizon.

I do keep meaning to set up one of my CD32s but it's a case of finding a bit of space really. That and most of my best games have been sold.

Nice machine to get hold of now, though. I just wouldn't want to pay £199 for it and £35 for individual games.

Yeah, looking at the completed listings, you should be able to get a complete setup for about £30 which seems cheaper than usual - guess it's just phases of collectible-ness. The cool kids are all buying GX4000s probably.

I think I paid much more than £30 for my CD32 about a year ago.. It did come with quite a few games though but one of which was Dangerous Streets. Maybe they saw me coming?
